Top Ten BVBL Posts of 2008
By Greg L | 1 January 2009 | Blogs | 5 Comments
This was quite a year for BVBL, setting a few records for daily bandwidth usage and blowing past the previous record for page views. Here’s a look back at the most-read posts for 2008, showing a few highs, but mostly the lows of 2008:
#10: Make Money The Easy Way (3323 hits) alerted readers to the “Zero fraud campaign” of the Department of Motor Vehicles. Rewards of up to $1,000 are available to persons providing information about attempts to fraudulently obtain drivers licenses or state identification cards, and hopefully a few readers took the opportunity to help out the Commonwealth and themselves at the same time. Apparently this was a pretty popular among those searching for rapid-response financial advice on Google, and I daresay this would have been some of the best they could have found.
#9: WMAL Cuts Chris Core (3344 hits) talked about the rather bizarre business decision made to cut Chris Core from the lineup at WMAL. Core is now on WTOP and on television on DC50, so he’s bounced back rather well. Meanwhile, Chris Plante is doing a rather excellent job with the morning talk slot vacated by Core, and his firebrand conservatism is more amusing to many of us. Maybe this didn’t turn out as bad as it initially looked.
#8: Another Teacher Busted On Sex Crimes (3408 hits) alerted readers to one of the serial tragedies that hit Osbourn High School this year, involving a teacher who was arrested (and later convicted) of sexually assaulting several young girls, who incidentally were not his students. I wish the coverage of this school had been limited to the trip their football team made to the state finals, but unfortunately the year held a lot more drama. Let’s hope next year looks different for this school.
#7: An Open Thread (3529 hits) last January prompted a lot of extensive discussion with 289 comments, one of the more popular open threads this year. Between the super bowl, illegal immigration, and a couple of personal flame wars, there was a lot to talk about.
#6: Schools Superintendent May Face Criminal Charges (3981 hits) noted that Prince William County School Superintendent might have faced criminal charges resulting from his job performance at a previous stint with the school system in Greece, New York. In the end no charges resulted and the only consequence of mismanaging a huge amount of money at his former job seems to be the responsibility for the Prince William County schools. We should be honored.
#5: Day Laborers Assault Woman In Woodbridge (4190 hits) reported on a woman being assaulted by day laborers and then being made to feel like a criminal herself when she contacted the police to report it. The end result? Not only did the police fail to investigate the attack, but the police refused to respond to questions from members of the Board of Supervisors that asked for an explanation about this and similar incidents. Accountability on the part of our public employees? Fugettaboutit.
#4: Obama’s Suspect Birth Certificate (4279 hits) discusses the birth certificate forgery proferred by the Obama campaign. While Obama might actually be the “natural born” American citizen that the Constitution requires, offering forgeries as proof of this hardly helps us to have confidence that this is the case.
#3: John McCain Can BITE ME! (4732 hits) expressed my utter outrage against John McCain’s “hispandering” to latino audiences, telling them something rather different than he was telling the rest of the American electorate about his immigration policies. As in the case above, it’s not much fun when the candidates for president demonstrate well before election day that they’re untrustworthy. Boy, did this presidential election stink.
#2: Wow! (9708 hits) expressed some surprise at the picture of Sarah Palin in a bikini with a rifle. Alas, it was only a photoshop job, but it certainly made the election just a little more interesting. Most of the hits on this post were click-throughs from my friends over at NovaTownHall, who must have been hammered.
Finally, #1: ObamaManiacs Show Their Class (11,331 hits) documented the nice manner in which one young man decided to engage in the political process, although Prince William County Police claim spray painting “F**k McCain” on people’s houses was not politically motivated in any way. Yeah, sure. As one of the few who posted photos of this outrage, there were plenty of hits coming in from national sites that saturated my bandwidth for hours the day it posted.
What a year.

It’s interesting that in a year where some claim that stopping illegal immigration was (and still is) the top-most priority on the minds of the people, only two of the Top 10 posts is directly related to illegal immigration (#5 and #3, but #3 was more about a politician than about illegal immigration–my guess is that the hits came because of the mention of John McCain, not because of the position taken on illegal immigration). One would think that a blog so heavily devoted to helping save Manassas, Virginia, and the United States from the scourge of illegal alien invaders would have seen those posts fill the top ten.
Wow get a life! No has ever said that this blog was dedicated to illegal immigration. Go home to your anti site.
Love,
but this blog is dedicated to driving illegal alien apologists absolutely insane since 2005 - so, it IS about illegal alien’s.
I never said the blog was completely about illegal immigration, but it does tend to be a focus. I would bet that the majority of the posts in 2008 centered on the topic of illegal immigration but none of them really made the “hit list,” did they? So, outside the echo chamber of the comments section here, illegal immigration obviously isn’t the first and foremost thing on everyone’s mind nor was it the biggest issue of 2008.
Bruce,
What a great year for Black Velvet.
Keep up the great work and contributions to PWC and Va..
Wishing you the best 2009 has to offer you and yours!
