DNC Chair Spends Taxpayer Dollars On Inauguration

By Greg L | 29 January 2009 | Virginia Politics | 4 Comments

The Daily Press is reporting that Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine apparently spent $500,000 of your taxpayer dollars providing buses to bring 75,000 supporters to the inauguration of President Barack Obama earlier this month.  Yeah, in his spare time he fills in as Virginia’s Governor as well.  You’d hardly know that from his comments, however.

Kaine’s grand solution here is to request that the federal government reimburse Virginia for this unnecessary and irresponsible expenditure, after the fact.  So much after the fact that the reimbursement request hadn’t yet been made.  Had it not been for a caller questioning Kaine during this month’s WRVA show, one has to wonder whether the idea of getting reimbursement would have ever been raised.

So simply switching which pot of taxpayer dollars is going to pay for this is going to make everything better.  Why in the heck isn’t he asking the Democratic National Committee to reimburse the costs here?  Or the inaugural committee?  Regardless of where the taxpayer dollars are coming from, spending any taxpayer dollars providing transportation to an inaugural is utterly outrageous.  Yet we’re all supposed to feel better now that the head of the National Democratic Party is going to go grovel to the President in the hopes His Obamination will bail out the leader of his party.

You just have to wonder what public good could have been accomplished with these scarce public funds, had not the DNC Chairman felt he could independently appropriate public funds to celebrate with Maximum Leader and 75,000 fellow travellers.

timmy kaine is fine to spend this money on obama. obama is fine spending money on food that 90% of the Americans are unable to afford. Congress can vote themselves pay raises. What do all three of those have in common? These items are paid for with tax money-our money.

However, banks providing bonuses, companies wanting to buy jets, etc is a bad thing. All because obama and the dems say so.

nancy “blinky” pelosi says one way to ease the economic crisis is for women to have more abortions since they are too many people who are straining the system(never mind she supports keeping illegals here) This week she says with the passing of the fair wage bill and the passing of an expanded health care bill, that it is all because the dems put women and children first.

    These are sick people.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. kaine is the worst, most partisan, hate-filled governor this Commonwealth has had in my lifetime.

Isn’t this the 2nd time that Kaine did something like this? I seem to recall some dust-up a few years back, where Kaine provided buses for some liberal-cause rally on the Mall, and requested reimbursment only after it was discovered and reported.

Don’t look now, but Gov Tim will probably have his DNC partners in the U$ Congre$$ put the reimbur$ement in the $timulu$ earmak bill.

My congre$$man Gerald Connolly said this in response to my questions about spending $850B + interest “I share your concerns about wasteful government spending and have joined my colleagues in agreeing to prohibit any pork-barrel projects. That’s why we eliminated projects like the $200 million renovation of the National Mall. As Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, I balanced the budget every year. I know the importance of cutting costs and eliminating inefficient government programs.”

I can only think that Gov Tim probably thought thi$ field trip to DC wa$ a nece$$ary government program??

I just missed where the VA legislature approved this expense. My wife tells me she thought VA had a budget crises.
