Because whether or not he is violating the law, part of “the law” now for him and that property is whatever he agreed to in the court settlement last year.

If he agreed not to build a sign in that settlement, then he cannot build a sign now, even if that sign would otherwise be legal.

And a contempt charge is a fast track to fines and jail time, because the court has already ruled on the settlement.

I for one would prefer that our state and federal government would actually enforce immigration laws and support E-Verify so we wouldn’t have to continuously battle the leftist pro-illegal alien crowd. I would like the battle to be over.

However, it is this man’s wall that reminds us that the battle will not be over until our state and federal governments protect legal immigrants and American citizens from the illegal alien invasion by enforcing immigration and labor laws.

The sign does require a building permit which it does not have. It doesn’t matter if the structure is temporary or permanent, secured or unsecured. A building permit in turn, requires a finding from the Architectural Board that the sign is compatible with the downtown historic district and a finding from the Building Official that the structure conforms to the Design and Construction Standards manual. None of these steps have been taken.

You may note the structure is not secured to the ground in a manner which would withstand the DSCM standard of 90 mph winds. If the Winter winds do blow you might want to avoid being downwind for your own safety.

Irrespective of whatever message the sign may contain, the structure must be sound, compatible, safe and not be a billboard which is prohibited in residential districts. The city is proceeding as it would with any construction to ensure these criteria are fulfilled or that the structure is removed.

No, what I mean is this time the City should not let him off the hook, and that we need to once and for all start to enforce immigration laws.
