Top Ten Reasons To Vote For Herrity, Plus One

By Greg L | 2 February 2009 | Fairfax County | 15 Comments

Herndon Town Councilman Dennis Husch gives ten great reasons to vote for Pat Herrity for Fairfax Supervisor tomorrow, but I think he left out the biggest one: Gerry Connolly is endorsing his opponent.  This is a great opportunity to not only select a superior leader for Fairfax County, but you get a chance to stick it to “Boss Connolly” at the same time.  Don’t pass this opportunity up.

The polls will be open at 6:00 AM tomorrow regardless of whether we have rain, snow or an icy mix.  They will be open even if Fairfax County schools and government are delayed or closed.  The County has a plan to clear parking and sidewalks for the polls.  If you need a ride to the polls please call, 703-766-4487, 703-752-4874, 703-868-5150 or 703-451-5515 or email plee@patherrity.org and provide your name, address and polling location. Your vote will be even more important if the weather is bad.

Top 10 Reasons to Vote for Pat Herrity

1. Raised in Fairfax County and a graduate of West Springfield High School - learned firsthand about leadership and public service from his father the late Jack Herrity - Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for 12 years.

2. Last April, Pat was the only candidate to put forward a balanced budget that would have resulted in a lower tax bill for homeowners and contained real spending reductions. Pat’s opponent failed to prepare for a fiscal train wreck, when we knew times would be bad.

3. As a transportation activist and leader, Pat received three of the top business awards for his work promoting common sense transportation solutions. Pat has led efforts to bring both short and long term solutions in the I-66 corridor, the completion of the missing link to the Fairfax County Parkway and telecommuting and other transportation solutions to the region.

4. Back in 2002, Pat filed a lawsuit to ensure a competitive bidding process on the Dulles Rail to save taxpayer money. The purpose of the lawsuit was not to block the project. If the Board had followed Pat Herrity’s leadership in pushing for a competitive bidding process, we would have been able to build a tunnel and still meet the cost standards of the federal government. Pat stands up for what is right.

5. Pat will not support wasteful spending - he does not believe we should be purchasing $200 million dollars worth of government-owned housing, building a large government housing bureaucracy, and becoming the largest landlord in the County. Nor does he believe taxpayers should be subsiding housing for those who make $99,000 a year.

6. Believes in transparency in Government - by setting sound priorities and making government more efficient, Pat has led the effort to address our shortfall and push for increased budget transparency.

7. We must keep America’s best teachers in Fairfax County - the average salaries of our teachers have fallen from #1 to #6 in the region. Instead of spending $130 million dollars on a luxurious new administrative building, we need to put the focus back into the classroom and teachers.

8. 20 years of experience as a Chief Financial Officer - Pat graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Accounting and is a CPA. With 20 years of award-winning financial experience he has created many jobs and opportunities for Fairfax County residents. He is the only candidate with a business and financial background.

9. Pat is the only candidate who can lead Fairfax County out of the $650 million dollar shortfall which is larger than the combined shortfalls of Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William and the District of Columbia. He has an award-winning financial track record and the reputation of putting troubled companies back on the right track.

10. Only Pat has the Leadership, Financial Experience and Vision to address our serious budget, transportation, school, and public safety problems while keeping Fairfax County the best place in the country to live, work, and play. Please see Pat’s website www.patherrity.com for additional details.

Please remember to vote tomorrow February 3rd at your regular polling place from 6am to 7pm

I had the opportunity to work with Pat at a company in Fairfax about ten years ago. Great guy. All you Fairfax residents need to get out and vote for Pat tomorrow!

To Fairfax County voters: Do yourselves a big favor and vote to reverse the slide into entitlement and mutlicultural paradise as have established in Arlington, by voting for Pat Herrity.

    On another note:

Richmond- Attorney General Bob McDonnell announced this morning that he will resign as Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia effective February 20th. The Attorney General is resigning as he begins his campaign for Governor in earnest. Since 1985 every Attorney General running for Governor, both Democratic and Republican, has stepped down from the position in order to ensure that taxpayers have a full-time Attorney General running the Commonwealth’s law firm, and that the Office is free from politics during a campaign year.

McDonnell is one of the good guys, regardless of whether you agree with his positions. Kudos for recognizing the conflict in a run for governor and holding the AG position.

    VOTE HERRITY (TODAY)!…

The polls are open here in Fairfax County, so if you live here, you need to go and vote for this fine fellow:

    Leadership.

What’s that? You’re looking for a good reason?

Yeah, as we’ve discussed before, I’m not the best guy to ask for that…

As usual, Dennis, right on target. So much so, I forwarded your remarks to all my Fairfax County contacts yesterday. Good job my friend.

I looked at the returns, but haven’t done the math. Looks to be close. What’s the total?

Did the math. Looks like the socialist won by about 1200 votes out of 100K or so placed. Far from a mandate. Still hope for Fairfax, although I had written it off long ago. Looks like the ‘I”s were a factor, but no telling how the 1K or so votes would have broken, had they not been on the ballot.

So, what conclusion can we draw here? Fairfax still has a lot of “R”s who are willing to show up for the right conservative candidate, in a special election. I am sure that the socialist benefited from the Master Socialist’s November victory coat-tails. The fact that the race was this close, in a previously socialist-leaning district indicates that the electorate is feeling some buyer’s remorse. Could this be fall-out from the realization that in November they elected not Democrats, but rather dyed-in-the-wool socialists to the Fed? Could this be the early signs of the electorate’s tendency to vote for a true check-and-balance system of government? If the trend holds, this would bold well for the GOP in November. I am sure ‘I Bleed” will poo-poo this analysis, but even he or she cannot dismiss the fact that only 1200 votes out of the total cast gave his or her commie….er…candiate the victory.

Guess Dennis was a bit “off target” on this one.

Really, John Gault, you were able to subtract one number from another…all by yourself? Bravo!

    Yep, the Democrat won.

Your conclusions are, of course, lacking in reason. Rather than benefitting from Obama’s stunning victory in November, Bulova was challenged with getting burned-out (D) voters to the polls. Truly, it was her exceptional campaign organization that won the day. Your “buyer’s remorse” assertion is baseless navel-gazing.
