Here is a great video showing how the Dems resisted doing anything about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while Bush was in office. Some might say the Dems wanted a financial meltdown in order to impose their socialist agenda on America.

“It must be made clear to anyone suffering from an incurable disease that the useless dissipation of costly medications drawn from the public store cannot be justified.”

No experimental drugs anymore cost is to high. I can't wait. I can't wait to see elderly people I know die because of this. Aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers, elderly parents, elderly friends everyone you love and value will be considered worthless. Lives full of wisdom and experience will be terminated by guys like Barney I like Franks and beans, Oholibama, and Harry Reid. (Godless liberals)

I just hope when they pass this every hospital room in Amerika will have a picture of Hillary Clinton hanging over each bed, and at the entrance an alter with a statue of Oholibama behind it. I also hope they train the doctors to talk like Barney Frank and make them all look like Tom Daschle. The nurses would look like Nancy Pelosi of course. And when they are slowly watching you suffer while they withhold medicine, they smile. And while the doctor talks to you he spits all over your face.
And of course ACORN is their making sure you fill our your absentee ballots for the next election.

The only reason Northern Virginia is still a tolerable place to live is because the house of representatives in Richmond has done their part not to pass every tax increase and crazy laws the liberals want. We would probably have toll roads everywhere, 2nd amendment rights trampled on, your car tax would be higher, who knows what would happen if it weren't for some sound minded people down south who have a common sense for freedom and a love of liberty.

I apologize ahead of time for such a long post, but I think it's critical to highlight an item in the alleged "stimulus" package that the MSM isn't spending much time on. As Sean Hannity said today, investigative journalism is apparently dead. This is from yesterday's Washington Times:

Secreted in the House version of the stimulus bill the President is trying to rush through Congress is the germ of a major overhaul of the American health care system. One provision causing increasing concern is the future role of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, who will be in charge of collecting and monitoring the health care being provided to every American.

Think of it, a centralized, federal database tracking your every visit to a health care provider - where you went, who you saw, what was diagnosed and what care was provided. Chilling. The immediate concern is privacy - traditionally these matters are between a doctor and patient, but now the federal bureaucracy will interpose itself into that relationship. The bill contains some boilerplate, assuring everyone that the records will be held in strictest confidence, but given the weakness of database security these days, that can be considered more a hope than a guarantee.

The purpose of the database is to help increase health care "quality, safety and efficiency." The first two goals are commendable, but what does efficiency mean?

The word is omnipresent in that section of the bill, but not defined. For guidance one can consult tax-impaired former HHS nominee Tom Daschle's 2008 book "Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis," which seems to have inspired that section of the legislation.

In it he discusses various approaches to reducing the costs of health care, including restricting the types of expensive treatments available to seniors and people with severe maladies. According to Daschle, Americans consume too much expensive health care. Thus one way to drive down costs is to limit the availability of or access to certain costly services. To many this sounds like denying care. But therein lie the efficiencies, making sure that providing health care is tied to a return on investment for society. If it costs too much to treat you, and you are nearing the end of your life anyway, you may have to do with less, or with nothing. You just aren't worth the cost.

Daschle's book recommends, and the bill appears to institutionalize, a body free of political influence to make the hard choices regarding how these efficiencies will be realized - what care will be limited, and who will be denied what services. Naturally politicians would prefer to stay clear of these critical decisions, but do the American people really want questions this important to be free of oversight?

One would think that the hard questions are the ones most in need of transparency and accountability, and not be buried in bureaucratic secrecy. It brings to mind Hannah Arendt's observation about the banality of evil. What nondescript GS-11 will be cutting care from Aunt Sophie after her sudden relapse before he or she heads to the food court for some stir fry?

There is no telling what metrics will be used to define the efficiencies, but it is clear who will bear the brunt of these decisions. Those suffering the infirmities of age, surely, and also the physically and mentally disabled, whose health costs are great and whose ability to work productively in the future are low. And how will premature babies fare under the utilitarian gaze of Washington's health efficiency experts? Will our severely wounded warriors be forced to forgo treatments and therapies based on their inability to be as productive as they once might have been? And will the love between a parent and child have a column on the health bureaucrats' spreadsheets?

Consider the following statement: "It must be made clear to anyone suffering from an incurable disease that the useless dissipation of costly medications drawn from the public store cannot be justified."

This notion is fully in the spirit of the partisans of efficiency but came from a program instituted in Hitler's Germany called Aktion T-4. Under this program, elderly people with incurable diseases, young children who were critically disabled, and others who were deemed non-productive, were euthanized. This was the Nazi version of efficiency, a pitiless expulsion of the "unproductive" members of society in the most expeditious way possible.

The program was publicly denounced in 1941 by Clemens Galen, the Catholic Bishop of Muenster, who said in a sermon, "Here we are dealing with human beings, with our neighbors, brothers and sisters, the poor and invalids ... unproductive - perhaps! But have they, therefore, lost the right to live?"

The efficiency-based approach to health care reform is a betrayal of the compact between those who are most capable of work and those who are least capable of defending themselves. And we have come a long way from what was supposed to be a "targeted, timely and temporary" stimulus bill.

I'm trying to imagine what happens when some GS-11 accidently loses his government-issued laptop.

Truly firghtening first step toward destroying the finest and most technologically-advanced healthcare system in the world.

I bleed,

First you defend the high unemployment rate of NY by blaming it on the financial mess, and Rhode Island on their depends on manufacturing. Stop making excuses for liberal policies that are not business friendly. The vast majority of businesses in Rhode Island employ less than 50 people, why? Because it does not pay to expand and take risks there.

Good spending in my opinion means using tax money for Defense, National Security, using the federal gas tax revenue on highway programs and other transportation projects that will benefit many, not just a few(the bridge to nowhere is an example of bad spending).

Spending money on National Parks, Veterans affairs, Social Security(another dedicated revenue), NASA, Medicare, Food Stamps for the truly needy.

Congress needs to do a better job of not wasting money regardless of where the money is being spent.

I do not consider spending money on the NEA, ACORN, Frogs, etc to be a good use of funds. This bill, according to obama, is needed to save the Nation, why muck it up with with pork?

Yes, it does take two to tango, and the Dems went right along with the spending of the last eight years. It seems pretty funny to complain about the debt of the last eight years and then support a spending program that will not only add to the debt but will take it to a whole new level.

Virginia(at least this part) used to be a far more friendly place. Outside of NOVA, you find what this area used to be like. Schools were better(particularly in Fairfax, where parents just complained the grading system was too tough). Government was not as large. There did not seem to be a group of elected officials who were hell bent on destroying the Commonwealth because they were more concerned with how their National party leaders felt then the people of the Commonwealth. IMO, people used to respect, understand, and honor Virginia history, now it seems too many newcomers simply do not want to embrace any VA history or even respect it.

I don't understand why people move from one area(the NE) because they were sick of the high taxes, fees etc, and then start to turn their new home into exactly the type of place they had previously left because they could not stand it. I would never move to NY and then attempt to turn into another Virginia. There must have been a reason(s) they picked Virginia to move to. Why screw it up?

Okay, Citi, indulge me: What, in your mind, differentiates “good spending” from “pork”?

It is hypocritical for you to call out Democrats for voting in favor of spending bills while “forgetting” that Bush signed them. It takes two to tango, Citi.

Citi, I reject your premise that “Virginia is getting worse and not better”. How is this so? Could you be more specific than claiming; “As a long time resident of the Commonwealth, I have seen the change that has happened here and it is not good.” That means absolutely nothing.

I wish you’d pay attention to what I write so I don’t have to keep repeating myself. Rhode Island’s problem is that it didn’t move away from it textile manufacturing past soon enough and as those jobs moved to more affordable wage areas, its economy has suffered. It has nothing top do w/so-called conservative v. liberal control of gov’t.

Here is an article talking about the trouble in California.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28625138/

Also because obama has stated he is going to cut the defense budget(a liberal policy) many of our local Government contractors are nervous. The drop in military spending would have a negative impact on our area.

Richboy,

You do realize that as recent as the 1960's that California was controlled by the GOP. The school systems were some of the tops in the Nation etc.

The reason why California is in such bad shape now, is that it took time for the liberal policies to have an impact. The many social programs, the bloated school budgets, the unfriendly business policies. The State is so burdened by their budget costs just trying to keep up with inflation, they simply were living on borrowed time and now they are paying for it big time.

Yes, we do benefit from having the Federal Government here, but NY and California also has Federal Government employees. Maryland also benefits. Outside of NOVA, the State is still better off then CA and NY and other liberal States. We also have a larger population than many areas of the State, so naturally, there is going to be more tax revenue generated from this area. You can bet that if Virginia changed their right to work State status companies would leave or if the State attempted to enact some of the liberal policies that CA or NY has, companies would leave. California's overtime law states an employee who works more than 8 hours a day must be paid over time even if they do not work a total of 40 hours a week. That is just a silly law. But is indicative of a liberal State.

Remember how MD tired to pass the "wal-mart" health care plan a few years ago? Do you remember the reaction from the business community? Lucky for MD the libs did not win that one.

Hilton Hotels just announced they are moving an office to Fairfax County and picked them over DC and Montgomery County due to the better offer that VA provided. They are moving here from California.

America attracts international investment because we are a capitalist economy that offers a good return and relative safe investment. Cuba on the other hand is a Communist Nation and does not attract much investment because it does not pay. Venezuela is a Country that is running toward socialism. Do you think they will replace America as a top place to invest? Nope.

Do you remember New York City in the 1970's?

But is indicative of a liberal State.

Remember how MD tired to pass the “wal-mart” health care plan a few years ago? Do you remember the reaction from the business community? Lucky for MD the libs did not win that one.

Hilton Hotels just announced they are moving an office to Fairfax County and picked them over DC and Montgomery County due to the better offer that VA provided. They are moving here from California.

America attracts international investment because we are a capitalist economy that offers a good return and relative safe investment. Cuba on the other hand is a Communist Nation and does not attract much investment because it does not pay. Venezuela is a Country that is running toward socialism. Do you think they will replace America as a top place to invest? Nope.

Do you remember New York City in the 1970’s?

This is not an argument for liberal policies in VA, and it is not an attack on the arguments made above, but it is most definately a plea for logical argument.

The truth is that Virginia does fiscally well because of all the federal spending within the state and adjacent to the state. People who live in NoVA make big bucks primarily because they have high paying jobs in DC (i.e. a husband wife team of two GS-15s earns a quarter mil a year, and they get every other Friday off, and their csrs retirement program is far better than nearly all private programs). Other folks rake in the cash selling houses, food, cars, etc. to that same couple.

If DC was not located adjacent to NoVA, and if the government contractors located here did not also make a fortune off the gov't, NoVA would be a wasteland. That's a fact. We're making big money in NoVA sucking on the gov't's big you-know-what. Little of VA's success is due to conservative or liberal policies.

NoVA is far more liberal than the rest of VA, yet we do far better fiscally than the rest of the Commonwealth. Either we are doing well due to liberal NoVA policies or we are doing well because we occupy the virtual seat of government jobs. I suggest the latter, and I assume most on this blog would understandably consider the former quite unpalitable.

Also, CA and NY have historically done far better than most other states in terms of more jobs, more colleges and most corporate headquarters. It is true that CA and NY are not doing well now, but their liberal policiies have existed far longer than their current respective economic down turns.

In sum, VA's success vis-a-vis other states is not a valid comparison. If DC was not here, there would be no NoVA, and the rest of the state (which is far more conservative than NoVA)would be far worse off. It has been repeatedly and correctly oberved on this blog board that the rest of the state disproprortionally benefits from NoVA revenues far more than NoVA benefits from the remainder of the Commonwealth.

Bleed,

Where have I ever said all Government spending is pork?

Where have I ever said I was happy with the spending bills that Bush signed? See you just make assumptions based on nothing but what is rolling around in your head.

Why do you think Virginia is getting worse and not better? Too many liberals. As a long time resident of the Commonwealth, I have seen the change that has happened here and it is not good. Not so coincidental the number of liberals living here has gone up.

What is your excuse for California? For Rhode Island? They are all liberal run States that are in much worse shape than Virginia.

Now, you either want to destroy America State by State, or you simply have to admit liberal policies are not good for the Country.

Virginia does not have liberal business practices that impede growth of business like NY does. They make it easier for businesses to expand, because of lower tax rates, etc. That is why NY and other liberal run States are worse off.

The first bill that passed did, indeed, contain pork. It was added after the first attempt to sweeten the pot for the hold outs, particularly the Democrats. Intimidation and the threat of martial brought the Republicans in line. It would seem that everyone has their price.

Don't worry, Citi: You're still an ass.

To you, ALL gov't. spending is "pork", so what's new?

Remember that Bush signed each and every one of those spending bills into law. Where was the vaunted "fiscal conservatism" of YOUR friends in Congress?

In NY, non-union employees (who are bound by the terms of the union contract even though they are not members of the union) benefit from collective bargaining without paying union dues. That's "right to work": For whom is this good? What do you mean by “business friendly polices”? Why must you obfuscate?

As to the unemployment rate: You don’t suppose NY’s rate could be effected by the financial crisis, do you? God, you’re a dumbass.

Yes, Citi, NY has more liberals than does VA...for now.

Bleed Obama? Didn't Hitler have a lot of idiots who followed him off that cliff? Hey Bleed, since you like statistics how about this one. How many people initially supported Bush and the war? Hmmm, pretty high as I recall.
Bush had a very low rating in his last 1/2 year, somewhere in the range of 30% give or take. BUT, what was the rating of Congress at that same time? Try 1/2 of that number. Obama was a part of that low number and "Mr. Present" has no one to hide behind or blame now.

That said, I have disagreed with the Bush spending, his stupid TARP plan and now we have the same old "change" with "Mr. Present", yeah baby, a whole new trillion on the note of fear and hopelessness. This is Bleeding alright. Cash going out like California, NY and NJ - all in serious trouble. Liberals forever!!! They never learn, just spend, spend, spend. Bush was more liberal than Clinton on some issues but anyone who has the misguided dream that Barry will save the day is smoking the same stuff he did in college, as he admits and brags about.

Good luck having blind support for a guy who voted more as "present" or not showing up to vote at all. Now that is a record to proud of.

There's always 2012, so don't worry. You'll be proud again when the adults take over again.

Bleed,

Because the first bill did not contain pork, the current bill contains pork regardless of what obama and his fellow libs say. The current bill is full of pork because the Dems cannot control themselves when it comes to spending and paying off those that do their dirty work for them.

Who is the ass now?

Obama lied about not having pork in the bill. Obama lied about not having lobbyists in his Administration. Obama lied about being bi-partisan. Can obama hire anyone who pays their taxes?

What have the Dems done in three years of running Congress?

The Dems voted for every bill over the last eight years. Can you provide an example where every single Dem in the House did not vote for a spending Bill? Or all but three did not vote in the Senate?

Virginia is a right to work State, NY is not. Virginia has business friendly polices(for now), NY does not. NY has high taxes, VA does not. NY had more people move from there in 2008 then moved there in 2008. Virginia did not have that problem. NY has high taxes. VA does not. NY has more liberals than VA does. NY has a higher unemployment rate than VA has. Why? Because liberal policies are harmful to success. http://www.bls.gov/web/lauhsthl.htm

In case anyone missed it, Harry (dimwit) Reid refused to allow an ammendment to prevent illegal aliens from getting any of the jobs the stimulus bill will generate. At present, one in seven construction jobs is filled by an illegal. Wanna bet we see a rise in illegals crossing the border?
