Stewart has realized that he has ridden the anti-illegal immigration nag into the dirt and that that particular fad cannot provide anymore gullible voters than it already has. He, as an opportunistic pol, has to find a new schtick for his next act. Most Republicans of any degree of brain activity know that the anti-immigration rhetoric attracts a nasty crowd and is toxic to the Party nationally. It plays better locally, but it's fairly tapped out even there. The large numbers of incoming illegal immigrants have diminished to a relative trickle as the economy has collapsed. Almost no one ran well in the last couple of federal elections by staking out anti-immigrant positions. Stewart has to find a new theme. One possibility is that he may turn to governance in PWC, a novel idea that has disappeared in the past three years. The WaPo article suggests that Stewart is toying with the idea of doing his job. Who would've thunk it? Maybe it's just hype. But it shouldn't be discouraged. Because state avenues are blocked due to the McDonnell/Bolling choo-choo arrangements, Stewart may try governing for a while. We (and he) may find that he has latent, unused talents.

Mr. Andrews, lets hope Mr. Stewart is sincere about being pragmatic in the future about issues.

Ideology doesn't work. Since the 2004 elections Republican's have lost dozens of seats across America.

Why?

Republican elected officials talk a good game about being a Ronald Reagan conservative but it's what they do when they think no one is looking.

In 2007, the General Assembly approved a one million dollar budget amendment for a beautification project at the entrance of Country Club Drive in the Montclair Subsdivision. 500k in 2008 and 500k in 2009.

As a tax payer, why am I paying for flowers for Montclair, isn't that what Home Owners Association fees should be used for?

The article in Sunday's Metro section in my opinion was wholly positive regarding Prince William County and Chairman Stewart as well, which was refreshing to see based upon past opinion pieces and editorials that they have published. Any politician will have his or her detractors, but it must be noted that while individual citizens are afforded the luxury of having their singular issue or concern that they trumpet, the Chairman must concern himself with the entire spectrum of issues that affect or potentially affect the county and it's citizenry.
To recognize that there are different issues and concerns to be addressed, with changing environments and situations requiring different focus' and priortization does not diminish the importance or one's resolve to find solutions for other problems such as illegal immigration and it's affect on the county. Anyone of any political stripe can come to the conclusion that economic issues are of extreme importance to all levels of government during these turbulent times and I for one applaud the Chairman for his thoughtful, pragmatic and professional approach to engaging these issues.

I saw it. Have been to a few Douglas, Ariz. sites for more info. as I am following it as best I can.

That illegals have rights is crazy. That they have more rights than we citizens have - is even crazier. But, those are the ways of our pander docracy!

Hope the rancher wins this case. If he loses, I hope he appeals it as far as the supreme court - if they take the case.

As you probably know, other ranchers have lost their ranches or paid high awards in similar cases.

I would like to know if there is a procedure for recalling judges, federal, state, and local and other officials. If there is such a procedure, we should learn how to use it. Look at how many initiatives are killed by the rulings of these judges at the lower level. These cases should be taken all the way to the supreme court and if that fails, we should consider an amendment to the constitution for that particular issue.

You think that it is bad now? Just wait until they pass amnesty for the 50 to 100 million illegals now in the Country. After amnesty the estimate is that for every former illegal, on average, each one will then bring in 4 more immigrant relatives - your know real or unreal cousins, etc. It doesn't get any better!

Here's a story that curled the hairs on my head and made me so incredibly angry:

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/09/16-illegals-sue-arizona-rancher/

Has anyone else seen this? Who is this retarded judge that permitted this to go to trial? Am I still in the United States of America or did this somehow turn into Bizarro world?

"As some may recall during the Special Election for Chairman, he ran on the Marriage Amendment"

Are you kidding? During the special election, he ran on Slow Growth. That was his entire campaign. His position on the Marriange Amendment was on his website but every speech he made, what he talked about was out of control growth.

Too bad he wasn't Chairman 10 years ago. We might have not have the tremendous growth which just made our foreclosure and school overcrowding problems worse.

According to many on that other, Whatever, those of us who oppose the illegals are the bad people. But, then they are liberals and we all know that liberals avoid being logical and have also lost their survival genes. Unfortunately, they are taking the rest of us down with them.

It seems the reporter spoke directly to the Chairman and his message was crystal clear.

He is no longer taking on the fight against illegal immigration which was what he campained on to win the Chairman's seat. As some may recall during the Special Election for Chairman, he ran on the Marriage Amendment but in the article claims social issues are less important than fiscal ones.

Well, fiscal issues are the no.1 priority and if the Chairman wants to continue his career in politics his move to identify himself as a Moderate is just one more brilliant political move by Chairman Stewart.

Corey Stewart may want to climb the ladder of Politics, how many of them don't have this in mind. But I can tell you he has been true to his word.
He has gone out on the limb many times to get this County straight and get out the ILLEGALS> The ILLEGALS are the ones who has devistated our County in so many ways. And YES,their promoters, who feed and earn money off of them. They are not savey enough to know they who push them are the ones who are thriving.

Lets wake up Corey is protecting the little we have left in this County.

I read the WaPo article about Stewart. Stewart is an unprincipaled ideologue supporting or not supporting anything that will move him up the elected food chain as he continues his unqueching thirst at sucking at the public trough.

Overall that was a surprisingly nice article about Corey Stewart. Of course they had to do their editorializing, but they didn't make him out to be a devil. That's quite an impreovement over their past Stewart-oriented pieces.
