Omnibus Bill Proving Ominous

With Congress prepared to throw another 410 billion of our taxpayer dollars out the window on superfluous projects many of which had previously been rejected at the state level, a few Democrats are finally waking up to smell the Arabica beans.

Moderate Senator Evan Bayh (IN) and reliable liberal senators Russ Feingold (WI) and Robert Menendez (NJ) announced they would not vote for this pork-laden omnibus bill. This after Senator John McCain (R-AZ) took to the Senate floor to decry the multitude of nonsense plaguing the bill that will continue to drive the stock market further and further into oblivion. This is where McCain demonstrates he still has an ounce of conservatism left in him, as he and conservatives lay blame where it belongs – on all members of both parties who took part in this spending orgy – and, yes, that includes the 40 percent of the pork brought to us by GOP members.

McCain cited the following examples as some of the nuggets found in the omnibus bill: $1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa, $6.6 million for termite research in New Orleans, $2.1 million for the Center for Great Genetics in New York, $1.7 million for a honeybee factory in Weslaco, TX, $333,333 for a school sidewalk in Franklin, TX, $143,000 for an on-line encyclopedia in NV, $951,000 for a sustainable Las Vegas – whatever the hell that means, and $207,000 for a tattoo removal program in Los Angeles – wasn’t Fantasy Island cancelled years ago? And on it goes to the tune of roughly 9,000 earmarks.

Bayh said this is business as usual and that the increases are counter-productive. Not just counter-productive, but in many cases previously rejected on the state level. Case in point, Nevada voters rejected a transportation system from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, which is now part of this omnibus bill to be paid for by all Americans, not just Nevadans, thanks to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. To contact Reid in Washington, DC, call 202-224-3542, or send an e-mail via his Senate website: www.reid.senate.gov.

Yes, there is a link between Capitol Hill and Wall Street, just as there is a link between Wall Street and Main Street, despite Barack Obama admitting just days ago that he doesn’t pay much attention to Wall Street. That is painfully obvious, as every time he opens his mouth the market takes another tumble toward hell. Clearly, this is demonstrative of a lack of confidence in Obama and his plans.

What happens on the Hill does not stay on the Hill. Look at the trends – when Obama makes a public pronouncement of some sort regarding the economy, the housing market, his continued attempts at wealth redistribution and tax increases, the stock market falls precipitously. Eventually people will stop investing causing companies to lose revenue, forcing them to lay more employees off, raising unemployment and thus the people’s dependence upon government.

Obama attempts to delineate a difference between Wall and Main streets, yet they are inexorably linked. In one way shape or form, virtually all Americans – Main Street, are linked to the stock market – Wall Street. Whether it is via an IRA, a 401(k) or some other investment instrument, the average American is touched by the stock market. When the market struggles, consumer confidence wanes, causing a drop in purchasing, and thus the inevitable layoffs.

Obama lied when he said anyone earning less than $250,000 would not see their taxes raised. By allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire, he is doing just that – causing a raise in taxes on anyone owning stock as capital gains taxes will increase. Pushing for a reduction in allowable home mortgage interest deductions will raise the taxes of anyone owning a home. By seeking to disallow charitable contributions as a legitimate deduction, people’s taxes will not only rise, but charitable contributions will fall as a result. This in turn diminishes the ability of charities to help those in the direst of need, thus forcing them to seek increased government assistance, ultimately costing the taxpayers more money.

If not raising taxes on 95 percent of Americans is an Obama goal that he believes will help jumpstart the economy, taxes should not be raised on 100 percent of Americans for the same reason. To do otherwise defies logic, but then, so too does the notion of government making things better for the American people by running them. Instead, government takes hold of something and runs it into the ground. All one needs to do is examine the DMV, US Postal Service and the dilapidated state of public education in this country. But public education is a topic for another column.

The next question is: will support of this bill by our drone Sens. Webb and Warner translate into a liability for the Dems. across the state later this year?

We are just one step away from becoming a third-world nation. The stock market is in free-fall, our manufacturing jobs are being outsourced or being given to illegals and the country is just about broke. Socialized medicine is in the works and total amnesty for 20-30 million illegals is just around the corner which will inturn, open the door for another 100 million latinos via chain immigration. GOD BLESS WHAT IS LEFT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Discontent stalled Omnibus bill yesterday — another chance to force E-Verify vote today

Thanks to all of you who rose to the occasion and made emergency phone calls to the Senate yesterday.

Partly because of that, the Senate could not reach 60 votes late Thursday to shut off debate on the giant Omnibus spending bill.

That means we have another chance to help our Senate allies to force a vote on Sessions amendment 604 to the omnibus (HR 1105)

    The Capitol Switchboard is 202-224-3121.

The Sessions amendment would authorize E-Verify for another 5 years and give states and businesses the assurance of stability in the program to move aggressively to use E-Verify to keep illegal aliens out of jobs so unemployed Americans can have the jobs.

Majority Leader Reid of Nevada, on the other hand, continues to treat E-Verify as if it is on life support.

For the umpteenth time in the last six months, Reid yesterday blocked the Senate from voting on a long-term extension of E-Verify.

Reid’s staff — and the staff of a lot of pro-illegal-immigration Senators — are telling their callers that there is no need for an E-Verify vote because the Omnibus already has an E-Verify authorization in it. That is very misleading — the authorization only takes E-Verify to the coming fall.

This is what Reid did last fall when E-Verify was scheduled to die in November. When Reid was unable to link a long-term E-Verify with some kind of amnesty or big foreign worker increase, he had E-Verify extended only into this March. Now, he sees he can’t get an amnesty this spring, either. So, he is extending it only until this fall when all the open-borders groups are planning a giant push for an amnesty.

It is time to stop this juvenile politics and show some real concern for the Americans who don’t have jobs because illegal aliens do.

When you finish with this pass it on so others will know what to do next.
One more to add on today. Things move fast under this new Government so do not sit back on your heels and get involved.

Last night, the Obama/Pelosi/Reid $410 billion Omnibus to fund non-defense government spending through September was pulled off the Senate floor. This wasteful monstrosity did not have the 60 votes required for passage.

It appears at least 41 Senators object to the massive increase in spending — 8% over last year’s budget – and the larding in of 8,500 earmarks totaling $7.7 billion.

A senior Senate aide told me this morning that many Senators do not want a repeat of the Stimulus battle where their offices were literally shut down with telephone calls and their email was swamped with messages going after the wasteful spending.

You see, they’re talking about Americans like you.

When you fight, the politicians get awfully nervous – even on a bill the President, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid assumed was an easy victory.

While Americans are losing jobs and seeing life savings evaporate this Obama/Pelosi/Reid $410 billion Omnibus funds earmarks like:

    * $2.1 million for a Center for Grape Research in NY
    * $1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa
    * $951,500 for Sustainable Las Vegas (I’m not making this up)
    * $2 million for “the promotion of astronomy” in Hawaii
    * $200,000 for a tattoo removal program

President Obama, after campaigning on a pledge to veto earmarks, now says $7.7 billion for 8,500 earmarks is ok with him. Sadly, the President cares more about letting his friends in Congress stuff pet projects into an already massive spending bill than keeping his promise to protect the American people from earmarks abuse and waste.

Call your two Senators today and tell them to vote NO on the Obama/Pelosi/Reid $410 billion Omnibus that increases spending by another 8% and funds 8,500 pork barrel earmarks at a time when hundreds-of-thousands of Americans are losing their jobs. The number at the Senate switchboard is 202-224-3121.

The vote will probably happen Monday so please act fast.

But as bad as this Omnibus is with all its earmarks, there is a far more important battle coming that you and I must gear up for now.

It’s going to be over the Obama budget for 2009/2010. In a nutshell the Obama budget

    * Spends more than any budget in American history and admits to a $1.75 trillion deficit.
    * Creates a “Cap and Trade” system that is an ENERGY TAX on Americans. The Obama budget admits this tax will be at least $645 billion in the first 8 years alone. Prices will go up on gasoline for cars, energy to heat and cool your home. Prices will increase on just about every good you buy — from food to consumer goods because of the higher energy costs to grow the food and make the goods.
    * Combined with the Stimulus, the Obama budget brings back the old social welfare system that trapped so many Americans in despair while wasting billions.

There’s so much more but to see the worst aspects of the Obama budget go to our Americans for Prosperity website by clicking here.

I’m asking you to educate yourself and friends on this Obama budget.

It’s going to take an all out effort by us to protect our nation’s future and our economic freedoms by defeating or changing this Obama budget.

In coming days I’ll have more details about the battle ahead and specific ways that you can make a difference.

But for now, call your Senator on this $410 billion Omnibus boondoggle

And, recruit friends and family to join the www.NoStimulus.com website by signing the petition there. It’s the best way to make sure they join the fight for freedom!

Much lies ahead, you and I need to make sure we keep turning up the heat.

P.S. At Americans for Prosperity we were honored to help lead a number of the “ Taxpayer Tea Parties ” across the nation last week.

to hell with pork for the people when the banks already got theirs no questions asked. if we are going to deficit spend then it should be for the people, infrastructure upgrades and unemployment benefits instead of to the same bankers that caused this mess. it sickens me to see people who were unwilling to get off their asses to stop TARP are now the same people that are up in arms about stimulus that will actually go mainstreet. suckers.

    My Immigration Reform:
    1. All businesses would be required to use e-verify on all existing and new employees.
    2. All businesses caught with illegal alien workers (regardless of knowledge) would have their business licenses revoked permanently. So businesses should make sure to really check hard as to the status of their employees.
    3. All illegal aliens would be deported (with their children - to prevent family separation) once they are caught.
    4. All people would be required to appear in person if they sign up for public housing, food stamps, etc. Only adults could apply for the benefits and they would have to show that they are legal citizens. No more using “legal” children due to the 14th Amendment flaw to acquire benefits.
    5. In order to obtain a birth certificate, the parents of the child born would have to show proof of legal status. If either parent is illegal…the child acquires the “illegal” status as well. Deportation proceedings can then commence.
    Simple, effective

Obama is a socialist in the western European sense of the word. He believes that governemnt needs to be much bigger and much more involved in the day to day lives of the people. He is implementing this Euro-socialist vision by buying out private enterprise with money from the US Mint’s printing presses (it’s not really taxpayer money in any meaningful sense of the word). If he could buy out private enterprise without raising taxes - that’s what he’d do. But he can’t. Even Barry the Budget Buster and Turbo Tax Timmy know that printing money leads to runaway inflation. On a simplified level he needs to take some money out of circulation as he uses newly printed money to buy up private enterprise. So he plans on increasing the taxes on everyone and everything.

This has nothing to do with environmentalism, it has to do with taxes and increasing government’s role. This has nothing to do with restoring America’s manufacturing base, it has to do with government ownership of productive assets. This has nothing to do with human settlement patterns, it has to do with taking money from people to fund government expansion.

I am neither supporting nor opposing Obama’s overall plan. I am merely putting it into plain words.

Now, let’s have some fun with numbers….

During the campaign, in 2008, Obama promised not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year. Pretty much everybody thought that sounded OK since people making $250,000 per year seemed pretty rich.

Then Obama submitted a budget that added more to the national debt than all of the former presidents combined - from George Washington to Geoege W. Bush. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123629969453946717.html

The inevitable outcome of this action will be very significant inflation. Maybe there will be good real economic growth too (as Obama’s very, very rosy models forecast) or maybe not (who can forget Obama, Sr … er, I mean Jimmy Carter’s “stagflation”). But - regardless - there will be inflation.

So, what income would you have to earn in 2008 to be among the rich (making over $250,000 per year) by the end of Obama’s second term? The answer, of course, depends on the rate of inflation. So, let’s run a historical model. Let’s say that the inflation rate from 2008 when Obama made his promise to 2016 when his second term would end will be the same as 1973 - 1981. A person making $113,000 per year today will have to make $250,000 per year in 2016 just to keep his or her real income steady. Obama gets to keep his campaign promise while taxing a whole lot more people than thought they’d get taxed when the promise was being made.

You have to admire quality work - even when that work is manifested in the actions of an extraordinary con job.

“So, when police charge an illegal immigrant with murdering Chandra Levy, reporters for CBS, CNN and AP benignly describe him as a ‘Salvadoran immigrant’ or as simply ‘a laborer from El Salvador,’ ” Mr. Baker said.

Have the supporters of the illegal alien agenda who claim that they actually support all immigrants considered for one moment that it is such as this that leads so many people to view ALL Hispanics as potential illegals aliens and criminals? Neither they nor the press differentiate between immigrants, legal OR illegal. This blurring of the lines could easily have led to all Hispanics, legal resident and illegal alien alike, to be thrown into one basket. Perhaps this has been intentional, in order to perpetuate the debate on racial terms…but doesn’t that make THEM the racists?

This just in from Grassfire.org. Did Hilduh Barff have any input to this bill? Look at item re tattoo-removal. Sound familiar?

TODAY the Senate is voting on yet another massive spending bill —
the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that contains more
    than 2,900 pages!

Worse yet, the bill is laden with 8,500 pork-filled earmarks totaling
    more than $7.7 billion including:

–$1.8 million for pig odor and manure management

    –$200,000 for a “tattoo-removal violence-outreach
    program” in Los Angeles

–$1.9 million for a water taxi service in Connecticut
(this is actually being called the taxi to nowhere)

–$473,000 for National Council of La Raza (which has
supported radical Mexican nationalism within our borders)

Just as bad, the bill does not require competitive bids — which will
lead to corruption and insider deals for our tax dollars! Well-connected
friends of members of Congress and the lobbyists will get the contracts
without even having to compete for them!

+ + Fax the Senate now and say “Purge The Pork”

Charles, President Obama who once pledged to go line-by-line to
remove wasteful spending, now says it s too late to purge the pork from
the spending bill. Well, he is wrong!

The Senate did not have the votes to pass the bill last Thursday and now
some Democrats are saying they will oppose this pork-laden version of the
    Omnibus Spending bill…

One thing is for certain–the vote will be very close!

Everyone should realize, Comrade Obama has an very feasible plan to make the Democrats the ruling majority and the USA an one party Nation! How? By making more & more Americans the wards of the State. The great society programs of the Democrats has made the Black race wards of the State while destroyed them as productive citizens of this Nation. Now, for most of them, the American dream consists of the next drug fix or their Welfare check, but they are the most consistent Democrat voters. The Democrat realize most people do not bite the hand that feeds them or realize the programs & welfare has destroyed any initiative & chance for the American dream but has gently lead them into economic bondage to the Democrat party!

Obama and the Democrats plan to give citizenship to the invading millions of Criminals and uneducated peons alone with chain immigration and their breeding rate assures that they add 100,s of millions of new welfare voters for the Democrat party! Welfare voters will then far outnumber productive citizens & effectively change this Nation into an Welfare Dictatorship controlled by the Democrat party!

“A Victory for Marine Lt Col Chessani

ANN ARBOR, MI – Late this morning, the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals sitting in Washington DC, released their unanimous decision upholding the dismissal of charges against Marine Lt. Col Jeffrey Chessani on the grounds of apparent Unlawful Command Influence. But the case may not be over yet.”

If you know the facts in this case, you have to wonder why young citizens enlist in or join the military. Lt. Col. Chessani was the victim of a RR action by the liberal news media and their PC allies in the Pentagon and other highly placed officials in the US Govt. I would hope the our Govt. would not appeal this case, but if they do, I hope the Court to which they appeals rules in the favor of Lt. Col. Chessani. I would think that they would not appeal to the U S Supreme Court, under its current makeup, as I would think the Supreme Court would rule in Lt. Col. Chessani favor. If an appeal to the Supreme Court is necessary, let’s hope that it gets there before more liberals are appointed to it!
