My “Distraction”

By Greg L | 11 March 2009 | Blogs, Prince William County | 35 Comments

Regular readers may have noticed some light posting lately, and for that I apologize.  The above video, along with the others now being posted at the website of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church have been keeping me busy lately, along with work.  After Lent when I’m managing multiple productions a week, it should be a bit easier to stay engaged in the local political scene and keep folks up to date about what is going on.

For anyone interested in doing the same for their church, this isn’t all that hard to do.  The video is shot with a high-end consumer grade digital camcorder, and edited in Adobe Premiere Elements before being uploaded to vimeo.com.  Audio is truly the tricky part, and we record our sermons using a Samson C90 and a Samson C01 condenser microphone (among others placed in the sanctuary, but not relevant for recording sermons) that are routed to a Behringer 2222FX mixing board along with a Behringer MDX4600 compressor/limiter/gate and then to the video capture card on the PC through the main mix.

If you haven’t found a church to belong to yet, and might enjoy lending a hand with these productions from time to time, I could surely use the help.  It’s a rather enjoyable way to serve the Lord, and there’s already one reader here who is (a big) part of the team.

Well … one of the things I think you should put on your “political to do list” after Lent is something around this:

    http://cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=44899

Apparently, Virginia’s own Bobby Scott is one of the politicians calling for this investigation. In the midst of an economic crisis, with the North Koreans and Chinese intentionally creating friction, with Virginia facing a massive budget shortfall … one of our dipstick politicians is spending his time investigating abuses against convicted illegal aliens in … Arizona!

Here’s how this should be played … McDonnell should immediately challenge Moran, Deeds and McAullife to state “publicly and for the record” whether they support their fellow Democrat Bobby Scott in this matter. Most Virginians will see no problem with deporting illegal aliens convicted of crimes in the United States. Virtually every Virginian will wonder why Bobby Scott needs to tell the people of Arizona how to run their jails.

This should be a gold mine for the Republicans in Virginia. But … are they now so hapless that they won’t take advantage?

If a picture is worth a thousand words then a well made video is worth a million. Maybe a video of Virginia’s liberal elite crying over convicted illegal aliens in Arizona while the Old Dominion goes to heck (note: Lenten promise to stop cursing) in a handbasket?

Groveton has hit the nail on the head. Let’s get these politicians (all of them)to state whether or not they support illegal aliens and their appologists, and why. Keep their feet to the fire until we get answers, This subject was NEVER brought up during the presidential election debates or even off the record. It should have been!

    Sandy,

The VOICE name has been showing up recently in PW. Probably hoping for a hand out from our Taxes. Any way go on Google and put VOICE/Organization and you will get a run down. They are into housing for the underprivelged, disabled and others. Seems like alot of repeat Organizations to me. Haven’t studyed it alot. I get leary when we start getting to many Helper Organization, as it’s like to many gas stations. Not much money can be made and theres no control. Hope this helps.

    Groveton,

Yeah, isn’t that something. Investigating someone for enforcing our immigration laws by a bunch of whiny, liberal politicians and their lowlife, scum ball supporters. These politicians should be recalled. An elected official is elected to represent legal, voting citizens. These elected politicians are representing illegal aliens. These elected politician are traitors.

The Sheriff is doing a superb job., but as things stand now in our “democratic” society, doing the right thing will not be tolerated.

Interesting comment by the Chinese - from Drudge.

CHINA ‘WORRIED’ ABOUT SAFETY OF AMERICAN TREASURIES…
‘We have lent a huge amount of money to the U.S.’…
    Asks for Guarantees…

Maybe there is something behind that story attributed to Hillary which stated that she was pledging American real estate as collateral for all that credit China has extended to us. Can we really fault the Chinese for being worried?

The News had on last week where the Chinese were coming here to buy up Real Estate as Investments. They in particular gave the report on$500,000 to a Million Dollars that were foreclosers. So I guess they have the Money and know where to go to get a deal. Course they will rent out to 5/6 familys and pay their investment really fast.

The Obama Administration is proving more inept than I expected. However, to be fair, I am not sure that a McCain Administration would be a whole lot better.

I thought Obama kind of “got it”. It now seems obvious that he doesn’t get it at all. Hopefully, he will learn quickly.

The Chinese are worried about buying American debt. That’s because the Chinese “get it”. This really isn’t all that hard. Let’s say you buy a bond for $1,000 that pays 5% interest when inflation is at 1%. And let’s say that the bond matures in 20 years. You are really buying a cash stream of $50 per year. You can sell the bond before maturity but you have to sell it on the open market - which is where the sales price will be set. Corporations have default risk, the US Government does not. Why? Because the government can print money forever. They will print your $50 per year no matter what happens. A company can’t print money and might go bankrupt. So, why are the Chinese worried? Because the fair market value of a bond varies inversely with interest rates. Remember that $1,000 bond? What will it be worth if inflation goes up to 6%? It would have to yield 10% nominally to yield 4% in real terms if inflation is 6%. But those checks still say $50 each year. Who would buy a bond for $1,000 yieling $50 per year when other, newer bonds for $1,000 pay $100 per year? Well, nobody. People will buy your bond for $500 since $50 is 10% of $500 and you need to get 10% to get a real return of 4% when inflation is 6%. So, the bond you bought for $1,000 is now worth $500 simply because inflation went from 1% to 6%. Can’t you just hold the bond until it matures and get your $1,000 back then? Sure. Meantime, you are losing 1% per year on your original investment since the bond pays $50 per year and inflation is $60 per year (per $1,000). If you think inflation will rise - sell the bond now!! Also, as inflation goes up, that $1,000 you’ll eventually get back is worth less and less.

The Chinese know that Obama’s budget is a crock. They know that there won’t be 4% real GDP growth anytime soon (as hallucinated by the Obama Administration). So, they wonder if the the Obama Administration will really cut spending (and kill off his base of liberal support) or raise taxes more (and break his promise of no new taxes over $250,000). Because if he doesn’t do one of those two things it will prove pretty stupid to buy American debt.

Obama and Pelosi and Reid have already blown it. They should have held the stimulus package to about 1/4 to 1/3 of what was spent. That MIGHT have been managable. But even a child knows not to try to eat a marshmallow in a single bite. The Chinese know this. Apparently, President Obama does not.

    anon in dale city -

Are you suggesting syndicating video via RSS? I didn’t know that was possible. Sounds like an interesting idea.

A more common idea might be to transcribe the sermon and syndicate the text. That’s technically very doable, but I don’t have anyone who could do a transcription. Since pastor speaks from some sparse notes and doesn’t actually draft the sermon, it would require someone listen to the audio and transcribe it.

Given that I’m running the mixer board, the PC video capture and operating the camera all at once (with only the camera in the sanctuary), and then doing the video edit, I’d need a volunteer to do the transcription.

They’d have to be fast, as well. We’re uploading the edited and mixed sermon from the first service by the time the second service is starting.

Now Obama is taking his clown show on the road. Beyond becoming the financial prostitute for the Chinese he is going to become the doormat for the Cubans and Venezuelanians as well. After his namby-pamby offer to normalize relations with Cuba the Cubans respond by offering to host Russian warships on the island. The last time something like that happened a real President blockaded Cuba. But Obama is not a real president. He is a chattering fool with a teleprompter. He’ll do nothing. Just like the nothing he’ll do when the North Koreans launch that ballistic rocket test thinly disguised as a satellite. Remember Al - Queda? Remember the first World Trade Center bombing? Remember the bombings in the embassies? Those were tests of Clinton’s resolve. He failed. Then, 3,000 Americans died. The North Korean rocket? The first test of President Gutless. He’ll fail this test. Then the North Koreans will do something worse. He’ll fail that test too. Then they’ll kill tens of thousands. Maybe Captain No Guts will feel compelled to act if he’s even still in office.

It takes a Carter to create a Reagan.

They are right out of the Obama playbook of “community organizing”.

They get liberal pastors to demand money from local governments for dental care for the “poor” and low cost housing for the “poor” etc, in return they get votes from these same “poor” who got the free stuff for candiates they tell them to vote for!

Did you learn that quote at the Unitarian Church?

The poor need Christ, not a handout.

Open your Bible and read it . . .

    Samuel 2:7
The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

    Proverbs 13:7
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

    Proverbs 28:6
Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

    Matthew 26:11
For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

    Luke 6:20
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Big Dog, please answer this question:
Do illegal immigrants show love to their neighbors by: coveting the wealth of others, stealing IDs, stealing jobs, using fraudulent documents, trashing the areas that they move into, stealing benefits that they are not entitled to, resisting fitting into a community that they move into, and aiding and abetting other illegal immigrants in doing the same sinful activities etc. etc. etc.? True Christians will let these people (illegal immigrants) and their legal supporters know that Jesus Christ loves them and has paid for their sins. Therefore, they should “actively” turn away from this sinful behavior and do the right thing(this is true repentence). Just because someone is “poor” does not entitle them to be sinful. Jesus Christ is the true treasure not material wealth. Please study your Bible.

Remember: “Seek ye the kingdom of God first and all other things will be provided”? Look this verse up.

What The Patriot (Got E-Verify?) said on 15 Mar 2009 at 6:48 am,

Geee… I thought only God could determine what constitutes sinful behavior. None of the things you mention are even remotely covered in the bible. Why not stop worrying about this temporal world and start worrying about the next? I really don’t think Jesus had your property values in mind when he preached the Sermon on the Mount. People who use scrupture to protect “things” just don’t “get it” because “things” don’t matter. The first thing the Apostles did was leave all of those “things” behind to follow Jesus.

(Literally, here) for God’s sake, quite worrying about your neighbor (unless you are on a mission for Christ)! None of this earthly stuff really matters… we are only here for a while… and we only have one job that counts… getting in to heaven!

I’m afraid that your camel might be a bit too overloaded with material worries to make it through the eye of a needle… but hey, I’m certainly not in any position to judge.

It says a great deal about a writer when they estrapulate
a call for Christian mercy and service to others as a

    What would Christ do?

Big Dog, think of it like this….if you knew someone was always getting drunk would it be more loving to help them stop that sinful behavior by bringing it to their attention for intervention or continue to allow them to get drunk because they might get mad and not like to hear you explain that what they are doing is wrong (not only harming themselves but potentially others as well)? Ultimately the tough love approach (confronting what they are doing wrong) will help them in the long run (whether they want to hear it or not). By the way Shakespeare is NOT scripture.

What would Jesus Christ do? HE certainly would not want someone to continue a sinful lifestyle. Nor would HE want anyone to “assist” anyone in continuing their sinful lifestyle. The list of sins I presented in my post break quite a few commandments (coveting, stealing, etc.).

This verse shows that we should help our brothers and sisters get back on track by rebuking sinful behavior. All Christians are responsible for this. This is true love.

Look at it like this…when you were a child and were making a fuss because your parents told you not to do something (that might harm you/others or get you into trouble, etc.) were they telling you not to do something out of love for you? Of course. This is the same thing.
