Violent Crime Plunges In Prince William

By Greg L | 1 April 2009 | Illegal Aliens, Crime, Prince William County | 44 Comments

Today at 2:00PM Prince William County will announce that violent crimes decreased by a whopping 22% in 2007, demonstrating once again the value of protecting the quality of life by having local law enforcement participate in federal efforts to reduce the number of illegal aliens unlawfully present in our communities.  The previous year, more than half of all murders in the county were committed by illegal aliens.  By encouraging illegal aliens to depart, and ensuring that those who do not and are arrested for state and local crimes are turned over to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation, we’ve addressed to some degree an important public safety issue that few states and localities have the courage to even consider, much to the detriment of their own residents.

Soon other localities that utilize a more accommodating means of addressing those who wantonly violate the law will report their crime statistics, and I’ve little doubt they will paint a stark picture of the impacts that such policy choices impose on the citizenry.  Prince William County has stood for the rule of law and sought to address the illegal alien issue with the limited tools available to them.  As a result, our citizens are safer.  Those localities that refuse to address this isue in a meaningful way, and might even go so far as to subsidize entities that provide material support to these lawbreakers put their own citizens at higher risk of being the victims of violent crime.  In the face of such clear evidence that such policies are downright irresponsible, one would think that leaders in these jurisdictions might cast off their dogmatic allegiance to the illegal alien cause and embrace the truth.  I doubt they will though, and it will take the electorate to resolve these policy problems.

Given that we’re in a difficult economy the overall crime rate increased, as was expected, due to increases in property crimes.  One significant increase was related to the theft of appliances and copper from vacant homes and homes undergoing foreclosure.  Not too surprisingly, a significant proportion of this came from many who can reasonably be suspected of being in the country illegally.  Their parting gift to our community as they fled from the possibility that our federal laws might actually be enforced was to once again commit an unlawful act.  Not much of a surprise there.

At least in many cases these illegal aliens might not be around to continue their less helpful patterns of behavior in our community.  We’ll see how helpful they ended up being to the jurisdictions that “welcomed” them.

UPDATE: Here’s some raw numbers for readers to ponder:

Reported Violent Crime

2006: 767
2007: 620 (19.3% drop)
2008: 485 (21.8% drop)

That’s 36.9% over the two years!

Violent Crime Arrests

2006: 404
2007: 321 (20.5% drop)
2008: 255 (20.5% drop)

That’s a 36.8% drop in arrests over two years!

Violent Crimes By County

Year Prince William County Montgomery County Fairfax County
2006 767 2159 998
2007 620 2061 1043
2008 485 2085 953

The report also notes the arrest of 464 illegal aliens in 2008 for everything from rape to drunk in public, with most of the arrests being for driving without a license, drunk in public, and DWI.  Removing an illegal alien with an alcohol problem and a penchant for driving without a license before they become responsible for another tragedy, such as the case when Lt. Harrover was almost killed in an accident by a drunken illegal alien that then attempted to flee the scene, is a huge public safety benefit.

Can’t wait to see how antibvbl loons twist this one. They keep quoting some 1.6% statistic saying that’s the percentage of crimes committed by illegals. What say they about half of the murders committed by illegals? That’s just a slight bit more than 1.6%!!!!

    Something to look forward to?

Steven Camarota, research director for the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors tighter immigration controls, warns that even if immigrants are less likely to commit crimes, their children and grandchildren may be more likely to end up on the wrong side of the law. He points out that U.S. Department of Justice statistics show that Hispanics make up 20% of state and Federal prison populations in 2005, a rise of 43% since 1990. At that rate, one in every six Hispanic males born in the U.S. today can expect to be imprisoned during his lifetime — more than double the rate for non-Hispanic whites, but lower than that of African-Americans of the same age. “That means the children and grandchildren of immigrants are committing a lot of crime, making this a long-term problem,” Camarota says, before adding, “That’s much worse news.”

Just as the police were announcing the lower violent crime the other officers were investigating an armored car robbery at gun point off Old Bridge Road. You can see the tape of the robbers pointing their guns with the link below:

But it surely has gone up in the Gang break ins that has been happening all up and down Rt One . They are hitting houses during the day.

Now I say Gangs because what else would 3/4 together be and their MO seems to be the same,if you read the papers.

Lets get rid of this also to protect our neighborhoods.

I spoke to a member of the P.D. about the murder of a day laborers behind the 7-11 at Route 1 & PWC Pkwy. I asked why haven’t members of the Street Crimes Unit, and Violent Crimes Unit continued to question the numerous day laborers hanging out after the murder occurred. It is obvious they know who is responsible for the murder. The victim was killed after being stabbed repeatedly with a broken bottle during daylight working hours with many of these day laborers witnessing the incident.

I was told a directive came from the Chief’s Office for investigators not to question these individuals any further about the murder on the basis of conducting routine questioning. Additional questioning of these individuals is only to occur if an arrest occurs. Then questioning can occur after any potential “witnesses” are in custody.

It will be very difficult to solve this case. Without enforcing the everyday laws that are broken by this group, information leading to an arrest will probably not surface. The store owners/management responsible for allowing this group to loiter on the property, as well as the irresponsible policies of the Chief of Police who has forbidden officers to have contact with this group on a daily casual basis, are responsible for this “meeting area” getting to the point of becoming a homicide scene.

Loitering laws are in place to effectively keep a certain area from becoming a trouble spot. Murders and robberies are likely to occur when groups are allowed to hang out without purpose. This murder is the direct result of what occurs when police leadership turns a blind eye to a problem. Charlie Deane has always been against the Rule of Law because it deals with a minority group, and in his eyes enforcement would initiate an outcry from hispanic leaders, and the media. There has been no consideration to enforcing laws or protecting the community. Once again, policing by perception has made the county a less safer place to raise a family. Think about this…….an entire group of day laborers has witnessed a murder, and the police response (mostly passive questioning) has allowed one of their own to get away with the crime, and little has been done about it. Taking the fear of incarceration away from any group will only lead to an increased crime rate.

The response of the C.O.P. to this murder can be viewed many different ways. He either has no worries what crimes occur at these day labor sites between hispanics, or any crimes committed by a group of hispanics are not worth pursuing aggressively due to the negative image it will cast on his police department. Either way, I think the victim deserves a better effort from our police department, and the message sent to the hispanic community is PWC is a place where you can commit murder and get away with it. The bottom line is……a murderer is still walking freely on our streets, and our P.D. seems to currently be doing little about it.

Here’s the truth on the crime stats…

As Rick Bently laments on antibvbl.net the Crimes most visible to our community (Fraud, Rape, larceny, prostitution, sale of cocaine/meth, public drunkeness, DUI and driving without a license are ALL commited by a DISPROPORTIONATLY LARGER percentage of “illegal” immigrants compared to the rest of the population. (The statistics do not openly point this out to you because such truth is VERY political to ETHNIC ADVOCATES.)
Since we never obtain data on “illegals” before 2008, we will not know if there is a rise or drop in rate from year to year as a percentage contribution by “illegal” immigrants, so lacking that knowledge MOST of you assume some correlation in prior years with previous years as evidence of “illegal” contribution when in FACT YOU DON”T KNOW. (i.e “First of all, the crime rate in Prince William County has been going down for more than 10 years. The crime rate went down in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

When did it go UP UP UP for only the second time this decade? 2008. That’s right, the year in which the Immigration Resolution went into effect.”

Since you have never measured it, you don’t know what the effect of “illegal” immigration has been on crime rate. BUT you can know what percentage of 2008 crime was “illegal” immigrant caused.

You can also know this…12 Million illegal immigrants are estimated to be in our country illegally. That is 3.92% of a 306 million population. ANY annual crime statistic attributed to “illegal” immigrants above this is DISPROPORTIONATELY larger than the rest of the populations contribution to crime. In addition since we only took data on “illegals” for 10 months and crime data for 12 months you have to multiply the reported statistics by 120% (1.2) to obtain the additional (corrected) percentage of “illegal” contribution consistant with 12 months of data (one or the other must be corrected to be accurate, either 10 months of crime data or 12 months of “illegal” data to be accurate).

Here’s the actual numbers: (Chief Dean rounded down and introduced additional error and misrepresentation in his calculations, and left out 2 months of “illegal data” rather than correct for it).

Rape (5.21%) 1% greater than the average “non-illegal”
Larceny (6%) 2.1% greater than the average “non-illegal”
Total Part 1 Crime (4.19%) 0.27% greater than the average “non-illegal”
Fraud (12.58%) 8.66% greater than the average “non-illegal”.
Prostitution (25.71%) 21.79% greater than the average “non-illegal”.
    Sale opium/cocaine (10.0%) 6.08% greater than the average “non-illegal”.
Public Drunkeness (11.25% 7.33% greater than the average “non-illegal”.
DUI (6.05%) 2.13% greater than the average “non-illegal”.
Total (minor offenses) (5.20%) 1.28% greater than the average “non-illegal”.

Driving without license (17.1%) 13.18% greater than the average “non-illegal”.

And we don’t even have numbers for the other offenses that “illegal” immigrants commit disproportionately more than the rest of the population that really pee’s everyone in the commiunity off:
    Zoning violations
    Overcrowded houses
Trash in the street and yards
    Commercial vehicles parked everywhere
    Stealing of electricity
Mortgage fraud (that started our global economic crisis)
    etc, etc, etc.

Since we do NOT do demographics on FORMERLY illegal immigrants, you can’t seperate the crime statistics of 35 Million former illegals with crime statistics that are totaled by racial, gender, religious of ethnic group BIASES. Maybe that is why you see so many murders committed by gangs, an increse by a factor of 8 in crime from FORMERLY illegal immigrants in the country less than 25 years, and specific races correlated to SURNAMES, who have been here long enough to no longer be “illegal” (25 years), but have the lack of ethics and poverty backgroud that contributes to their “INDIVIDUAL” decisions to commit crime. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THIS UNLESS YOU DO VALID DEMOGRAPHIC DATA COLLECTION instead of make assumptions on what “illegals” do compared to others.

I would much prefer we don’t do demographics at all except look at those who BREAK THE LAW as “individuals”, seperate people into “legal” and “illegal” demographics, punish them, and stop encouraging ethnic, gender, religious and racial support for them (as encouragement for them to continue to break the law)

    expressed comparatively…
This 4.19% of SERIOUS CRIME represents a baseline between “illegal” people and non-illegal people SERIOUS CRIME ONLY, and yes you got it, they do represent 3.92% percent of our total population, but the crime rates are higher than 3.92% by demographic proportion. In other words, non-illegals represent 96% Percent of our population. If MORE THAN 96.07% of “non-illegal” people committed these crime in the Chief’s statistics, you can’t blame a LARGER crime statistic on “illegals” BUT IN ALL the casees I calculated above, LESS than 96.07% of the cases reported were committed by “non-illegals” and MORE than 3.92% of the cases reported were commitrted by “illegals”. This means the demographics of numbers of illegal people more often committed these crimes than “non-illegals” and that is the truth hidden by ethnic group advocates, but the truth is in the numbers.

  25. michael said on 2 Apr 2009 at 3:58 pm:

If you try to make this a racial issue..you shouldn’t..

WE don’t KNOW HOW MANY LATINOS commited crimes compared to Asians or Whites or Blacks as a proportion of the total population, BECAUSE WE DON’t measure it. It is POSSIBLE that MORE Latinos commit crimes than Non-Latinos, and thus that causes the “looks”, but we only measure “illegal” people, not LATINOS in crime statistics.

A better crime correlation in my opinion that eliminates this whole uncertaintly is to simply ENFORCE THE LAW on everyone the same (you are legal or you are illegal) regardless of race, religion, gender or ethnicity, and no-one will care what demographic commits more or less crime than another.

If you know someone who can’t do this because they favor Hispanic political action and advocacy over fair and equitable law enforcement…THAT IS RACISM.

You should call them on it…

I was told this by a police officer a number of years ago that he needed his supervisor’s permission before he could write a traffic citation as the chief perceived that too many tickets were being written and “we don’t want to anger the public.” We need some new “blood” in that position that will aggresivelly and fairly implement the law for EVERYONE.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said the world’s poor people should not be forced to pay for the global financial crisis.

President Lula said white, blue-eyed people - not Indians, nor black, nor poor people - had created and spread the crisis throughout the world.

“It is a crisis caused and encouraged by the irrational behavior of white people with blue eyes,” the president said, “who before the crisis appeared to know everything, but are now showing that they know nothing.”

Of course da Silva is not a racist. Only white people can be racist.

The Latinos that make up the largest group of the Illegal Aliens population has the largest school drop out rate of any ethnic group in the USA, second highest illegitimate birth rate, second highest crime rate, highest total birth rate and recent studies confirm they start dropping out of school, using drugs, having illegitimate kids, joining gangs at an earlier age then any ethnic group in the USA.
This behavior continues even after citizenship and down through each generation. This culture characteristic explains why Mexico and Latin American, while having more natural resources and moderate climate than most First World Nations are still mired in an Third World Cesspool of Crime, Corruption, Poverty and Misery!

Mexico’s and Latin American’s primary economic policy is to send their Uneducated peons and Criminals to the US for Tax payers to support and be the Victims as they rob, rape and slaughter Americans by the 10,s of thousands, Businesses to Exploit and profit from, and for Corrupt Politicians to Pander and Cuddle! While Mexico has one of the most punitive and strictly enforced immigration policies in the world!

Amnestying them & with chain immigration for their relatives and their relatives in an never ending chain will add 100,s of millions, a vast underclass of fast breeding, uneducated citizens that will make it impossible to continue the social network for American tax payers. When that occurs you will see riots, fires and pillage from coast to coast that will make the recent rioting in French by Muslim immigrants look like an cook out!

Congressman Reprimands Father of Teen Killed by Drunk-Driving Illegal Alien for Calling Criminal Aliens ‘Banditos’

    Friday, April 03, 2009
By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) In emotional testimony before a House joint panel this week, a Virginia man recalled the death of his teenage daughter in 2007 a death caused by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk and who had been arrested twice before the crime, but was not deported.

Two years ago this week, my 16-year-old daughter, Tessa, and her best friend Allison were killed as they were sitting at in intersection waiting for a red light to change, Ray Tranchant said, as friends placed a photograph of Tessa Tranchant on an easel behind him.

Since his daughters death, Tranchant, a professor from VIrginia Beach, has become an advocate for the enforcement of immigration law.

On Thursday, as Tranchant applauded local law enforcement in Virginia for its increased efforts to work with federal immigration authorities since his daughters death, he referred to individuals listed on the Immigration and Customs Enforcements database of illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds as banditos.

That comment drew a rebuff from Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.).

Mr. Tranchant, can I share with you as the father of two daughters, I thank you for bringing your testimony here, but I suggest to you that if we refer to people as banditos, as you referred to them in your testimony, it does not help to solve the problem, Gutierrez said.

Witnesses on the first panel were called to testify about ICEs ACCESS program, the 287(g) law passed by Congress in 1996 that allows state and local law enforcement agencies to voluntarily sign up for training to enforce federal immigration law in their jurisdictions.

Some on the subcommittee charged that the law has led to widespread racial profiling and other abuses.

In other testimony before a joint hearing of subcommittees on immigration, border security, the Constitution, and civil rights, Julio Cesar Mora, a 19-year-old American citizen who lives in Maricopa County, Arizona, told the committee that he and his father, who is a legal resident, were detained and harassed by sheriff officers while driving to his fathers workplace.

Antonia Ramirez, a community activist from Frederick, Maryland, said that even though he and many of his fellow Hispanics are citizens, they are often the victims of discrimination. He said illegal aliens often refuse to report crimes and even suffer abuse because they fear their families will be separated by deportation.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said he was surprised by the contrast of the witnesses testimony.

I think Im seeing the embodiment of a great big problem we have in this country and the result of it is the loss of lives, the loss of innocent human lives, King said. And I listen to professor Tranchants testimony. You have to know that hes here to tell you today that if we had enforced local immigration law, his daughter would still be alive. Tessa and Ali would still be alive. And thats true for hundreds, perhaps thousands of Americans who go about their lives every day, seeking to make the world a better place.

Rep. King said the testimony by Ramirez and Mora seemed designed to persuade lawmakers that enforcing immigration laws is not a good policy.

The message I get from you is that we shouldnt enforce local immigration law because there are some examples of discrimination, King said. I dont argue that it never happens. But I ask you, can you look at this on balance? Can you see the difference between the plea that you have made to this committee and the plea that Mr. Tranchant has made to this committee? Can you look him in the eye and say we should pass everybody over?

The comparison to what looks like an inconvenience to either one of you compared to the very sacred life of this mans daughter, King said.

Tranchant, whose mother immigrated to the United States from Ireland, told the committee he was shocked to learn the facts about the man who killed his daughter when the man was tried for vehicular manslaughter.

I heard at the trial that Alfredo Ramos should have been and could have been deported long before he killed my daughter, Tranchant said. In fact, this wasnt the first time hed been involved in this kind of an incident. It wasnt even the second time. Ramos had been arrested twice before.

Instead of being deported to his home country, he stayed on the streets of Virginia Beach to drink, drive, and kill these two beautiful girls in a way that showed wanton disrespect for the laws of our land, he said.

Ramos, whose blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit, was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

But Rep. Gutierrez said he thought the committee was missing the point.

I think were missing the point of the testimony here this morning and just so we have it very clear, no one ever has debated, promoted law that does not deport drunks, that does not deport rapists and murderers, Gutierrez said. Part of the problem is, its been said here by some of my colleagues on the other side — enforce the law.

This Congress and the government of the United States has not shown the political will nor committed the requisite resources to enforce the immigration law, he said. The only way to really do that is to have comprehensive immigration reform. You either sweep millions and millions of people off the streets of the United States of America, which no one is going to propose. So its always a little disingenuous to me when people say only enforce the law.

What I have seen, unfortunately, is the will to target and to victimize and to scapegoat a community of people, Gutierrez said. I have seen that readily here. It makes for great political points but it doesnt solve the problem and would not have saved your daughters life.”

Gutierrez said anti-immigrant sentiment is not new in this country.

The Irish [were] the dirty, filthy element that was coming here to undermine America. Well, it gave us a President Kennedy, he said.

Rep. Gutierrez recently embarked on a five-week tour, visiting 16 American cities, to document the harm caused by the lack of comprehensive immigration reform. As part of his Family Unity Immigration Outreach Tour, Gutierrez held community meetings for U.S. citizens whose families are at risk of being torn apart by a broken immigration system.

Gutierrez critics, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform, say he is promoting amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and the dismantling of immigration law enforcement programs.

Just so you know……..puppets come in BLACK too…….

Chandra Levy would probably be alive today if DC were not a sanctuary city.

I agree with Anonymous who said on 3 Apr 2009 at 10:54 am, “I wouldn’t put too much faith in the crime stats the police put out, they can make them out to be whatever they want to.”

All I know is that I feel much safer walking around my neighborhood today than I did prior to passage of the Rule of Law Resolution. Thanks to all those who worked for its passage.

    PATRIOT PATROL ALERT
Possible new location for day laborers…behind the 7-11 near the PWC fairgrounds. In the early morning I have seen a lot of construction vans and trucks parked “behind” the 7-11 where it is very dark and is hard to spot from the main road.

Crackdown on illegals produces crime decline
Report confirms aggravated assault down by 36.5%

Following a crackdown on illegal immigration, officials in Prince William County in northern Virginia are reporting their numbers reveal a significant decrease in violent crimes committed.

The violent crime rate in Prince William County plummeted 22 percent in 2008, according to new reports.

In recent years, the county had experienced a steady influx of illegal immigrants that led to its development of one of the most aggressive immigration policies in the nation.

The county for a time required all police officers to question all detainees about their immigration status. In 2008 the county loosened the policy to require police officers to only question those taken into custody about their immigrations status.

If someone is found to be in the country illegally, they are sent to local Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.

    (Story continues below)

The policy was changed because county officials feared that lawsuits would result from the former policy.

Last week, Prince William County Police Chief Charlie T. Deane presented the department’s 2008 crime statistics, pointing out that the overall crime fell well below the five-year average.

Robbery decreased by 8 percent and aggravated assault fell by 36.5 percent in 2008.

Deane said the statistics are not entirely accurate because crimes committed on illegal immigrants may not be reported. He stressed that the police department will continue to protect all victims of crimes, regardless of their immigration status.

“It’s in the best interest in this community that crime be reported regardless of who the victim is, and we must get that word out … because you never know who the witness is going to be who will solve that case,” Dean said.

As the nation continues to debate a federal solution to the immigration crisis, more and more counties and individual towns are taking responsibility into their own hands.

Help Save Manassas is a private organization created by citizens who are committed to reducing the number of illegal immigrants in the city as well as the greater Prince William County region. It was modeled after Help Save Herndon, another Northern Virginia-based anti-illegal immigration organization that helped to decrease the number of illegals in Herndon.
