Ah, Pat….are you 100% positive that carbon emitted by people is the major cause of global climate change? If so, how would you explain the numerous periods throughout geologic history where the Earth’s mean temps rose and fell dramatically, before man walked the Earth? Since the start of the industrial revolution, the mean temp of the Earth has risen only a couple of degrees, and the science indicates that the Earth has been undergoing a warming trend for a great deal longer…like since the end of the last ice age, 15,000 years ago.

I would suggest that you pick up a copy of Bill Bryson’s great book, “A Short History of Nearly Everything”. If you read it, (or listen to it, since the Bull Run Library has it on audiobook), you will learn how scientific theory has developed. You will learn that at just about the time when “all of the experts” believe something has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt, someone comes along a proves them wrong. You will also learn a great deal about Geology, Chemistry, Meteorology, Astronomy, Physics, etc.

Please don’t get me wrong. I strongly believe that we need to do a better job of protecting the environment. Clean air, clean water, developing renewable energy, recycling plastics, paper, metals, old tires, sustainability, all of those “smart” things people talk about should be done…the right way. “Green” is good, if it saves money over time. However, when we start talking about “carbon offsets”, “Cap & Trade” or ruining entire industries by forcing them to do things based on questionable science, I have to wave the BS flag. These are nothing more than scams based on some enormous shell-game.

Also, if we trust our future to the radical elements of the environmental movement, like the ones depicted in the video, we are in real trouble. I am not about to stand for a bunch of hippies running around worshiping Gia, making me wear clothes made from pot plants, telling me and my wife that it is wrong to shave any body hair because plastics are used in the manufacture of razors. These are the same people who opposed the BLM clearing away underbrush in many of the national parks and forests, which lead to the accumulation of fuel, which when hit with naturally occurring lightning, caused huge wildfires over the last several years. These wildfires have put about 50 years worth of carbon into the atmosphere, which you believe is the main source of global warming.

Here’s a novel theory…the main cause of global warming is…THE SUN!

1. bought a cow, fed it real well so it would put out tons of methane gas.
2. turned on every light in the house and outside the house as well as ran out an entire tank of gas in my jeep. the latter of which gets about 13 MPG.
3. encouraged everyone in my neighborhood to do the same.
4. started eating more, driving more, smoking more (in public i might add) and not exercising. thereby vastly contributing to the notion that the earth is warming….

….it’s the end of april/beginning of may and it’s still snowing out west….global warming my ass….

thing is, your grand children’s, grand children’s, great great grand children will be well dead and gone before anything truly adverse happens.

Oh, and make sure you hit Wal-Mart today. Buy some incandescent light bulbs. Stock up. The environmentalists have gotten them banned by 2012.

The phase-out of incandescent light is to begin with the 100-watt bulb in 2012 and end in 2014 with the 40-watt.

So now we get to import mercury filled Chinese light bulbs, built in EPA exempt, slave labor factories, powered by dirty coal, in the the great environmental paradise of Communist China and transported to the USA using huge ships powered by oil. So, we have that going for us……
