Getting Ready For the RPV Convention
By Greg L | 9 May 2009 | RPV, Blogs | 6 Comments
Back when Jeff Frederick was RPV Chairman, he set in motion some interesting initiatives that are now coming to fruition under interim Chairman Pat Mullins. Previous RPV Conventions used to generally tolerate blogs, but this year’s convention may be the first to bring blogs and New Media front-and-center. The details are still being worked out, but TC’s Vincent, working with the McDonnell campaign, and a number of bloggers are being brought into the planning and execution of this year’s convention in a way unimaginable only a few years ago.
Here are a couple of ideas in the works. Some may not happen depending on available resources, but this is a pretty incredible list they’re considering:
- A Twitter newscast and information feed, providing information on all the happenings on the floor and off.
- A live ustream feed from the convention floor, potentially including a simulcast podcast/ustream video during breaks in the action from a prominent Republican blogger or two. (yes, the invitation is going out to Jim Hoeft of Bearing Drift tonight!)
- Bringing a video feed from “watch parties” to the convention floor to make this really a “state-wide” convention.
- Video production facilities for bloggers and availability of candidates and officials for interviews.
- A Repubican Trivia Game using text messaging during breaks in the action.
And there’s more than that in the works. It’s a really ambitious effort that brings activists and grass-roots into the production of RPV events in a way that had been entirely unthinkable before. I’ll have updates as details become available, so stay tuned!
If the Republican Party had been lagging in embracing New Media, that is absolutely over.

Will this mean that there will be a bloggers row at the RPV Convention? I hope so, because it was great meeting other bloggers at the Convention last year.
I am told there will be. The questions are more around what support will be provided to blogger’s row and how big it can be than whether there will be one or not. Some of us might get crowded out by some national-presence blogs, but to the extent that resources are available I’m told they’ll do everything they can for us.
A lot of things are still up in the air, but the intent is there to help us out in a big way.
Selected not elected again?

Maybe the Repubs need to read this article and learn something.
There will be a bloggers row, correct.
RPV has been doing a great job planning the New Media efforts.
Spank That Donkey said “Selected not elected?” Are you making reference to the RVP Chairman seat “election” by delegate vote at the May 30th Convention?
