A significant thing to me is what has each applicant done for the City. Mrs Bass and Mrs Brooks have both served on the school board (and significantly both been elected several times each). Not sure of Mrs Brooks political affiliation (school board members are suppossed to be independent), but Glenn Hill endorsed her last time if I recall. Mrs Bass also not only been elected, but has served on several city committees (library, solid waste that I know of), and at least twice sought a Council seat. Mr Core is an active conservative, previously sought the position, and has been on the Parks and Rec committee.

For those of you who who know the others please fill us in on their qualifications. I look forward to wqatching all of the applicants in their interview with council.

This is a three year appointment and shold not be taken lightly! Over crowding, gangs, foreclosed/vacant housing, taxes (especially business taxes) and under performing schools must all be dealt with.

I’ve known the man for years and know he’s a level headed fellow who cares deeply for the community. He’ll listen to reason and make a decision based on the merits of the argument and not because it may be popular or some group wants him to.

Five are male and five are female, at least two are african american (S. Williams and Brooks), at least two are active members of the City Republican Committee (Bass and Core), at least one is an attorney (S. Williams, maybe Myers or Gross too?) and I do not know the others . . . will the applications be made public?

Interesting line up, it is good so many want to serve although there are many new names I do not know anything about, someone enlighten us please.

As far as Core, I supported him at the last Republican City Convention and heartily support him now but I get the feeling this Council is nervous about having more than one conservative at a time. To have two conservatives (Aveni and Core) might actually equal being able to get something positive done for the working families of this City such as the ridiculously high tax rates, overcrowded houses, and unregulated abortion clinics as opposed to expensive new opera centers for the rich and influential.

I had forgotten about that online contribution to the Gilmore campaign — I found the receipt but I don’t recall their asking for occupation and employer which I usually put as “Association Manager”, “MFSA”. I don’t know. No biggie really!

It’s good to see that the interest to serve the City for 20 hours a week or so and attend 2-3 meetings a week as a member of Council is still very strong and there are people who have been active volunteers for the City.

Dora Brooks and Cheryl Bass put themselves in front of the voters for the School Board, but never for City Council. Your allegations regarding Dave Core border on the slanderous, since you have no idea why that one report is summarized in the way it has and you seem not to have any interest in finding the original disclosure which should be easily available.

No matter how hard you try to post this kind of misleading and inaccurate information, it still doesn’t make it true.

Both Dora Brooks and Sheryl Bass have both put themselves in front of the voters several times. I was hoping Dave would ask for the appointment because he is a good candidate for the job. I am worried however about the fact that he lies about being on council when donating to the Gilmore campaign.
