The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging that you have a problem. Reading the comments on this blog one would think that Virginia is a solidly Republican state with only a few fringe areas voting for far left Democrats. It sounds obvious - Creigh Deeds is pro-abortion. Brian Moran will repeal the marriage amendment. Nothing about McAuliffe? Will he repeal the law of gravity? He'd have about as much chance as Moran getting the marriage amendment repealed or Deeds suddenly becoming the US Supreme Court and re-affirming Roe v. Wade. As for getting blasted out of our beds by terrorists - will the Virginia Air Force protect me? I am amazed that the second amendment hasn't somehow made it into this hack fest. Another item that has been "asked and answered" by the US Supreme Court.

The RPV needs to focus on legitimate state-wide issues in these state-wide elections. Why is this hard for the RPV to understand. Are the Dems right? Are the Republicans so bereft of ideas that even elections for governor are turned into pseudo-referenda on national issues like abortion and defense?

The marriage amendment is the only point in the blog that is a legitimate state government concern. And it was soundly decided just a few years ago. Nothing will change in the next four years.

This is the Republican Party problem. The RPV is like an over the hill greyhound dog shivering in a sleet storm chattering its teeth and barking and biting at everything nearby. One can only hope that some good samaritan will come by and put it out of its misery soon.

If you guys really want to help the Republicans win why not focus the discussion on legitimate state issues:

Off shore drilling.
Transportation.
Education.
Zoning and land use.
State level taxation.
State data security and lost prescription information.

The Democrats are winning in Virginia because they stay focused on issues that can be decided in Virginia. The Republicans are losing because they want to make the governor's election into a culture war. That used to be the Democrats' stock in trade. Everybody who disagreed with them turned into a racist - even conservative African Americans like Thomas Sowell, Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas. And the Dems lost and lost and lost. But then something wierd happened. The Dems cut back on their culture war manifesto. They started talking about things like the economy and job creation. And the Republicans adopted the culture war mantra. No more Reganonics. No, that was replaced with shrill whines about state officials taking away constitutional rights. George Allen (a resident of Fairfax County who was born and raised in California) went down to southern Virginia and ranted about being a "Real Virginian" . Then he looked into a video camera and called a native born Virginian a monkey. But (heh, heh...) he spoke in Spanish so nobody would figure it out.

Meanwhile, the RPV convenes some of its most rabid loons down on Witch Mountain and holds a nominating convention. The Dems simply open the polls and let anybody vote at a location near their home. It used to be different. It used to be the Dems that chose their candidates down on Witch Mountain. And the RPV held open primaries. You remember that ... back when the Republicans were winning.

The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging that you have a problem.

Get back to state-wide issues. Stop behaving like a college fraternity going through the secret rituals. Think back to what worked in the past.

Believe it or not - I really want to see the Republicans start doing well again. States that end up with one party governments are always fiascos. Illinois anybody?

It's the old Democratic Party trick: Vote for us, we're not as evil as we appear. Nobody could be that evil.

Rush,

Brian Moran wants to repeal the amendment that defines marraige as between one man and one woman.

Creigh Deeds openly publicizes that he is pro-choice/pro-abortion.

And you're telling us that Democrats in Virginia are not liberal......please.... do you think we are stupid?

The funny thing is that the Democratic Party in this area is far more Conservative than you portray. The Northeast, New England and West Coast are areas that have Liberals in the party. Virginian Democrats are way more traditional and prevailed in 2008 because the country woke up from a 12 yr bad nightmare!
