Sheryl Bass Gets The Nod
By Greg L | 8 June 2009 | Manassas City | 4 Comments
The Manassas City Council appointed Sheryl Bass to serve out the term of former City Councilman Steve Smith in Manassas this evening, selecting her from nine others expressing interest in the job. Bass, who formerly served on the Manassas City School Board, largely adheres to the same policies of outgoing member Steve Smith by all indications.
I wish all the best for Sheryl Bass, and hope her vote on the council won’t result in the same indecisive angst-ridden paralysis that governed the city’s response to Gaudencio Fernandez and the hugely unfortunate cave-in to ethnic lobbies that won the opportunity to have one of their people placed on the city payroll under a settlement agreement. Steve Smith wasn’t part of the solution on these issues at all. Hopefully his replacement will do better.
The Manassas City Council seems to sorely miss the backbone that Jackson Miller lent it while he served there, backed up by Marc Aveni. Bass has a short time to demonstrate she can improve the situation. Let’s hope she surprises us and does so.

Greg
Sheryl is an outstanding community leader and has been very active in city Republican circles for years. She will be an asset to the Council. She does have a strong social sense of community, but has shown fiscal restraint.
One thing to note about her is she WILL voice her views. She will take a stand when she feels it is the right thing to do. Another note is Sheryl should be able to help with communications with the school board.
Austin
I have to agree with Austin. Sheryl has been a dedicated public servant for many years. She has proven herself to be hard working and honest and to be an asset to our town. She is a strong choice for the City Council
Of all those running, Sheryl Bass was definately the best choice.
She will serve Manassas well.
The town needs more like her and this may be a start.
Congratulations Sheryl !
It is good to wish her the best at this point, I for one will make it a point to welcome her when I see her, at least she is a Republican.
On a related City note, did anyone catch the guy from the Equal Rights Committee who sued the City speaking before the Council last night? Sounds like they are back for some more “pay me to go away” money, wonder what Bass and Company will say to that request?
