Spashdown? Look at where 95% of the parking at Ben Lomand is. If you want to go to your kid’s soccer game on a Saturday, it is easier to walk from Rt 234, down Sudley Manor Drive than it is to find a parking space anywhere near the soccer fields. They (the park rangers) now direct you to park in Loch Lomnd (passing Spashdown coming and going) when you come into Ben Lomand (unless you are a coach that is.)

Things change with time, including the BOCS, the Park Authority, AND the residents of the Gainesville District. Why then, should the will of the current BOCS, the will of the current Park Authority and the will of the current Gainesville residents concerning the Silver Lake park be sacrosanct FOREVER?

Although not a resident of the Gainesville District, I am pleased that the “restriction” to meet current sentiment failed. It just COULD be that in 10, 20, or 30 years, something different (yes, to include the possibility of a “Splashdown”) would be desired and in order.

I certainly do not agree with last minute finagling. I do however understand the vision of deed restrictions and the positive impact they could have. They would allow forever the intentions and visions of the current BOCS to be realized. However they should not have been introduced as a last minute Hail Mary and should have LONG since been discussed with the BOCS and with the public to in order to allow public feedback. To that extent I understand agree with the votes and would hope if ever put in this situation again the BOCS could get to where they need to be in a timelier manner

Before Splash Down, Ben Lomond Park had only a couple of pools that did not service the number of residents living in Sudley and Westgate. They were awful. The county decided to make improvements…thus Splash Down. It was a tremendous improvement over what had been there. The soccer fields and baseball fields are still there. You can also walk along Bull Run if you desire. Splash Down has many supporters in Westgate and Sudley. They also provide employment to our neighborhood kids. One neighbor living in Westgate should be grateful that his/her child has employment this summer.

The comparison of Splash Down with Silver Lake is way off base. That is just a typical propaganda technique. Ben Lomond Park is located in an area that has been high density for years. Silver Lake is in a lower density area and will be treated as a passive recreational park. This end of the county has no place for anyone to go fishing. If deed restrictions were placed on Silver Lake it could have disallowed fishing from boats. The Board of County Supervisors do not need to get into the business of micro managing our Parks.

It appears that there are some preservationists out there who want to set aside public land to keep tax paying citizens from enjoying what their dollars purchase.

Let me get this straight. You all are supporting supervisors who turned down 270 acres os FREE parklamd amd a 1 million donation to develop the park and who will not make a public commitment as to how the park will be used. What kind od conservatives are you guys?

How did Ben Lomond Park, a nice place for family/office picnics, organized soccer and softball, pickup tennis and basketball, mountain biking, and dog walking, turn into this monstrosity “Splashdown?” How do we prevent that from happening to Silver Lake? With deed restrictions or by trusting “trustworthy” people, who may or may not be around 10-20-30 years from now?

Marty’s efforts to interject himself in everything doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as he’s constantly doing it. What surprises me is Mike May’s actions. I’ve campaigned for this guy, and I’m not too thrilled about him being a director of an organization that is lobbying the board on a policy issue. Maybe next time I’ll try to help someone else out. Mike’s actions are disappointing, and not what I believed we’d get from him when he was running.

This deed restriction thing is strange. It’s not like the Park Authority, whose members are appointed by the board has a history of doing weird things. Why would a body appointed by the supervisors be subject to deed restrictions? Don’t Mike May and Marty Nohe think they’re appointing people to the Park Authority that are trustworthy?

They ought to put some additional restrictions on that stupid Human Rights Commission if they’re going to start handcuffing people. They could use it. While they’re off searching for politically-inspired boogeymen, the Planning Office has a multi-year sexual harassment scandal involving nearly a dozen female employees, and the HRC hasn’t done a thing.

Typical Marty-style feel-good grandstanding designed to divert attention away from the other stuff he’s doing in the county. Perhaps someone should contrast the level and quality of park services provided in his district to those in the Gainesville district, I’ll give you a hint, his are in greater quantity and quality when compared to those provided in the Gainesville district, primarily paid for through the use of PWC general funds money while what little is provided in Gainesville is generally funded through proffers (thus the long delayed ballfields off 234). I’m not saying its necessarily a bad idea to put the restrictions on, I’m merely questioning Marty’s (and to a lesser degree May’s) motives. Perhaps someone should FOIA their (and Kim Hosen’s) PWC e-mail for a glimpse into what is going on.

The goal of the Prince William Conservation Alliance is to restrict public land use to basically smelling deer farts while walking on a restricted foot trail just wide enough for Marty Nohe’s left breast.

The folks over at the Alliance are environmental wackos and the token Republicans that join their cause, like Mike May, only do so because they cannot garner “environmental cred” any other way.

The BOCS should dump any plan that deed restricts any square of land as proposed by the Alliance. If they don’t, the next thing the BOCS will be voting on, at the urging of Nohe and May, are diaper requirements for any horses that use the park.

I posted this on the other board, and I think that I should post it here.

I suggest that we turn Silver Lake into a Sanctuary for illegal aliens.

It has become more and more difficult for illegal aliens in our County to maintain housing. As construction jobs have dwindled, the economy has stalled and this is disproportionately affecting illegal aliens. As most of them are Latino, this is de facto racism.

Additionally, balloon loans coming due have caused many people to lose their houses, again disproportionately affecting illegal aliens. Of course, for every single-family townhouse that an illegal alien loses, this could put as many as 50-60 people out of a home.

If the illegal aliens cannot find suitable housing, they may leave in greater numbers. This could totally kill business at Rivera’s Cafe, Andrade Market, and would impact every Chinese buffet and 7-11 in the area.

So I propose that we :

1. Erect shacks and a shanty town in Silver Lake
2. Maintain priciples of conservation - reserve every 10th shack to house chickens rather than people
3. Run school buses to the shanty town
4. Circulate flyers in Mexico inviting anyone and everyone to come try their luck in Prince William County
5. Nominate Chief Deane as our official Ambassador to shanty town
