Silver Lake Transfer To Park Authority Approved

By Greg L | 23 June 2009 | Prince William County | 16 Comments

The Board of Supervisors approved the transfer of Silver Lake to the Park Authority by unanimous vote after voting down Supervisor May’s substitute proposal 2-5.  I found it fascinating that May (and Nohe’s) substitute motion was only distributed to the other board members after the public hearing had concluded, making the first opportunity for other board members to see the proposed language immediately prior to a vote.  Silver Lake Park is moving forward, finally.

I’ll have more on this later tonight tomorrow.

That’s Marty’s SOP, come to the meeting with a new/revised/substitute motion/resolution in his backpocket, ensure there is no public debate on its substance and hope he has enough support to get it through. Oftentimes it works, today it didn’t. The Coles District Hobbit will now go home make a few phone calls to his handlers on the Chamber and shave his feet.

I am glad that Marty “I need to meddle and end up getting everyone ticked off at me” Nohe and Mike “I wouldn’t know what a backbone if I found it” May got defeated. I want to ask–what has Mike May ever done??? Where does he stand??? Where is he dependable. Soggy wheat toast is what he is–worthless and makes my stomach turn. Do you find it interesting that Marty Nohe seems to need approval from everyone and screws up practically everything he does? He wants to be seen as the community supervisor (like John Jenkins) well he is looking like the community idiot. They are disasters on the board and should be replaced.

I don’t know why anyone should be surpised Marty and Mike showed their resolution to the Board at the last minute. This is a technique Stewart and Stirup us all the time.
Another great way our Board works together….not

Deed Restrictions are used by developers. Marty Nohe is the Developer’s Supervisor.

Nohe has begun campaigning for Chairman. This plan will earn him BIG contributions from the developers who are anxiously waiting for the sewers to be sunk into the ground.

This isn’t about protecting the land or being an advocate for conservation though he hopes perspective voters will buy in.

Mr Nohe has been campaigning for a move up, but he is going nowhere except out. May will go along with him,as he has done nothing.

It’s time for a change in many of thge Supervisors, but I would keep Caddigan, look what she has done for Triangle and Dumfries. It looks better than Woodbridge and Barg had 20 years and accomplished nothing. Stewart is an OK person and he certainly means well for the entire County. Stirrup gives alot of thought to his decisions and so does Covington. The rest can go,as Jenkins has been there to long and the others just don’t have it.

Just because someone is a member of a political party that you subscribe to doesn’t mean that you have to support a bad candidate or public servant.

They work for us, we’re the boss and if we’re not satisfied with their job performance we need to find new candidates!

This latest stunt by Marty and Mike is deceptive, spineless and self serving.

Covington is much more in the back pockets of the developers than is Nohe. However, Wally is smarter (or more clever) than Marty and most of the time knows when to keep his mouth shut; his nominee for Travel and Tourism being one exception. Wally’s sole purpose in life is to open up the Rural Crescent to development by way of installing sewer and building roads. Such moves would dramatically increase the value of the land that he, his family, his friends and his developer buddies own.

Remember Brentswood? Covington and Connaughton campaigning on behalf of Brookfield Homes while they told citizens that they had not made up their minds yet? There is much, much more and Wally’s record is staunchly pro-developer, anti-citizen, and anti-taxpayer.

Marty for Chair? No way. Is anyone working on an opponent for him? Marty is a really nice guy but I can’t support someone who takes orders from the developers and the Regional Chamber. He must be planning to run as an independent or Democrat because the local Republican Committee would never nominate him.

Anyone with an IQ above freezing understands the disaster caused by turning the County over to developers as was done during Connaughton’s administration. Sean promised never to take money from developers in 1999 when he first ran for PWC Chair and later when he wanted to run for Lt. Gov. backed his truck up to their warehouse to shovel in their money. He sold us out to finance his failed state-wide campaign. The County got overwhelmed by overdevelopment, which was the main reason we’ve suffered more than most areas during the recent housing collapse.

The market is just now struggling to come back to life and regain a little value. It will still take many years to recover fully. We can not elect a Board in 2011 that will repeat history. Voting for Wally or Marty is voting for your home never to recover its value.

Agree with all you’ve said, Just, except “”which was the main reason we’ve suffered more ….”

There are many contributing reasons to the economic blight in the country, one of which is some of the Supervisors encouragement of and complicity in overdevelopment. Another was the tolerance of outright mortgage fraud by our law enforcement officials. A couple of investigations, arrests, and prosecutions would have put a damper on the food frenzy and chased some of the sharks to more welcoming jurisdictions. But no one wanted to put a brake on the gravy train and the rape of our neighborhoods and County (except myself and some others in HSM).

Out with the old, in with the new. All incumbants should go by the wayside. There are no politicians who are either serving or representing their constituancy. They lie, make deals and get rich on the public dime.

Advocator, I certainly don’t want the job. This county is rough on politicians. It’s an either “you’re with me or you’re against me” environment. I’m surprised that any of the current members of the BOCS (or the Chairman for that matter) would want to run again considering the grief they have to put up with. A desire to avoid the public humiliation this County is famous for when someone comes up with a new idea is why I prefer to remain Anonymous.

I look forward to seeing Advocator (since I don’t know your real name either) on the ballot in the future. If you are not interested in the job, perhaps you can get “Ham Sandwich” to run. He (or she, I’m not sure) would have no problem being “eaten alive”.

The biggest problem any of us would have with running for Board of Supervisors is developer money. If they see Wally or Marty (or Jenkins for that matter) in danger of losing the election, tens of thousands of dollars would pour into their campaigns from outright developers and their spouses, PACs, and related firms such as their attorneys. You would see nothing but the Wally and Marty show on TV until they got reelected.

Advocator is correct about the role of the crooked mortgage brokers. It’s part of the whole incestuous scam from which we are all suffering now. Developers couldn’t sell houses without mortgage financing (or build them without cheap illegal labor) and the mortgage brokers couldn’t do business without houses for people to buy with their money. I won’t even get started here about the corruption in the mortgage financing and securitization business, which was the main catalyst of the current recession.

Add to this mix a willing media. Look at the Manassas Journal Messenger or Potomac News and see how much of their advertising comes from the real estate and mortgage industries. They aren’t going to bite that golden hand with something like objective investigative reporting.

Who is willing to commit to hundreds of hours of door-knocking, phone banking and envelop stuffing/licking to offset the developer money to help defeat these guys?

Corey Stewart and this website seem to be the source of the “you’re with me or you’re against me environment. I don’t see the same level of intolerance and name calling anywhere else. Why is this “conservative” website prompting politicians who make bad land use decisions that cause tax increases. Supervisors should not use their aithority to protect their private agendas, as ;ohb 4tirrup and 9orey 4tewart did at Silver Lale. Stirrup appears to wamt an equestrian center near his house. Stewart wants to be friends with $tirrup. This websote backs them by trashing anyone with a different opinion. Practice what you preach or lose all credibility.

Really? Just go look at antibvbl, there’s plenty of namecalling there. “Weasel Stirrup” this and “Racist Stewart” that. You don’t have to dig very far to see plenty of namecalling there. Their defense? bvbl does it so we can do it too!

I can’t believe your statement, “I don’t see the same level of intolerance and name-calling anywhere else.”

Check the “anti” site and see the mathematical results of the bard’s admonition, “Hell hath no fury …” carried to the fourth or fifth power.

Too bad they can’t bottle that hate and sell it.

Incidentally, I suspect that most of the name-calling and trash talk on this site is done by the regulars there who log on here just to discredit this site. Even my “handle” has been hi-jacked a few times in order to ascribe to me some intemperate language.
