I am glad you think it's better. I live in Point Of Woods and it has turned into a dump! If I could sell my house I would be out of here tomorrow. I am so sick of hoards of unsupervised children (as young as 18 months) trashing the neighborhood. I called Social services about all these little kids running in the streets and parking lots, damaging cars and private property, littering, ripping up flowers and breaking tree limbs, outside at all hours of the night no adults anywhere in sight. There are NO laws on the books with regards to how old a child should be in order to be left alone. I could not believe it. Surely the powers that be (that have dreamed up more stupid laws than you can shake a stick at) could come up with something to protect these neglected kids.
There are more laws to protect animals than kids. Any idiot can have children, but then the rest of us are suppose to take care of them.

This posting is off subject, but the "Wellington Graffiti" posting is so old I thought I should put my comments on a more up to date subject where it might be read.

On June 29 Mr./Ms. Anonymous, under the subject theme “Wellington Targeted by 18th St Gang,” questioned the condition of Point of Woods, stating that there has always been a ton of graffiti, some in common areas, and vandalized common property. He/She moved out because of this deteriorated condition. He/She also suggested that I should take a tour through Point of Woods and see.

I admit it has been a few months since I have been there, but I did take a tour this afternoon (July 7). What I found was that the city’s aggressive pro-active enforcement of zoning laws and its pro-active encouragement of residents has been remarkably successful in eliminating to what Mr./Ms. Anonymous described.

I did find one significant instance of gang graffiti on Kirby Drive. Other than that one regrettable exception, the townhouse areas north of Liberia all the way from Portner to Sumner Lakes were free of graffiti, free of destroyed fences, free of trash in front yards, free of unkempt lawns. Many thanks to Kisha Sugonro (Neighborhood Services Coordinator) , the homeowners associations and the neighborhood watch groups and the individual citizens for taking pride in their neighborhood..

I don’t know what the future will bring, but at least things are a lot better now than they were in the past.

nova...

I totally agree with you, the economy in the tank is excellent for suppressing immigration, illegal or otherwise. that's why more of them are either going home or hanging out on the street corners getting smashed every day until their money runs out (or committing crimes). I hope most of them just take the option to leave. If Obama is really going to do what he says and leverage against employer's that hire illegals maybe we'll see something come from that as well but I'm not holding my breath.

went to the pharmacy today to get a prescription for my sick kid, in front of me was a woman - thirty something with nice nail job and new cell phone - looking alot nicer and well rested than me for sure . . . she was arguing with the pharmacist about her "goverment funded prescription" through medicare/caid . . . went on to give her kids names with all different last names . . . she had no shame at all, in fact she glared at me . . . so I thought as I waited . . . the government, most churches and society in general have taken away any semblance of shame over single motherhood, if fact we call it out as some kind of title and give the kids free backpacks in the fall and free lunches even in the summer (in the paper yesterday - fairfax county is doing this) and of course foodstamps and free prescriptions for all . . . let's all go drop off some food at the local food bank and feel good about that . . . I further thought . . . finding a thin poor kid is getting harder these days . . . most I see are fat and bratty and at walmart buying coke and snacks . . . and I thought some more when I shelled out my last $20 for the prescription for my kid . . . how I long for the day when government spends my tax money only helping those in true need . . .

How about starving the tax pig? That would be a good start.

You have to add "no jobs" to your list, Brian. 2Is don't come for the benefits - there aren't many of them. They come for the work and income. There has never been a border between a prosperous economy and a failing one where there is not a lot of illegal immigration. The fact that our economy is in bad shape now has been a major factor in suppressing illegal immigration.

When I read a crime report in the paper, the immigration status of the perp is usually not relevant to the reportage. The large bulk of the stories would have to have a sentence or paragraph explaining that the suspect was a citizen of the United States. That's not very interesting or relevant. Then you would have a much smaller proportion of stories that would state that the suspect was an illegal immigrant, which, again, is not particularly relevant. There may be certain crimes (human smuggling, slavery - see the article in the Post today) where immigration status of the perp or the victim has a bearing, but it certainly isn't every crime report. So I don't make much of the fact that a particular story doesn't have an indicator of the suspect's immigration status.

Big Dog-
My intent is to clean out the entrenched career politicians that have been funded by special interest groups. Term limits would reduce the opportunities for candidates and serving members to cultivate these relationships. Re-election funding becomes a moot point when you can't be re-elected. Would that make congress more honest? To a certain extent. When time is short, outright bribery becomes the obvious choice. I'd like to see every congressman and woman have a team of FBI agents assigned to them. It's not a perfect system, but it would keep them looking over their shoulders. Let's face it, an honest person doesn't fear getting caught and doesn't mind the extra scrutiny. Of course, campaign funding should be transparent. I don't have any proof that my ideas would work, but it's different from what's clearly not working.

Black Saint-
Keep telling the truth as you see it. I agree completely.

Pat.Herve-
As usual, right on the money. I'm afraid that personal greed often overrides civil harmony and the rule of law. It doesn't mean that we all shouldn't continue to do the right thing. People all over America are watching PWC for guidance on the illegal alien issue. What they are seeing is that when you turn the lights on, the parasites scatter.

The ones that have allowed the illegal immigrant explosion to get out of control is you, me, and your neighbor. We allow them to come in and do jobs. We hire the contractors that hire them. Your neighbor, the small business man refuses to use EVerify, and continues to employ them - saying that they are legal with a nod and a wink.

So, we should have better immigration laws, and better border security, but if there were no employers, there would be very few illegals.

Greg,

Black Saint seems a little “off,” if you know what I mean. Might want to keep an eye on that.

What Black Saint has stated is completely true and to the point. He is "right on" if you know what I mean. The politicians who have sold this country out by not inforcing the immigration laws and allowing millions upon millions of illegal aliens (including Obama's auntie) to remain here are the ones we need to keep an "eye" on.

Great idea Johnson, and then the government bureauracy can
run the show with rapidly changing elected leadership always
being pushed out the door. Have states that tried term limits
kept them? Why not? Do you have any proof that term limits
result in better government ?

My suggestion to support improved government is to reduce
the practice of "gerrymandering" and have more
competitive elections plus easily viewed transparent

Jeanette Rishell has stated that she'd like it to be a career for her.

other jokers in the senate. I just wonder how much Urkel had to do with that
final decision?

Greg,

Black Saint seems a little "off," if you know what I mean. Might want to keep an eye on that.
