Will Webb And Warner Confirm This Nutcase?

By Greg L | 2 July 2009 | National Politics, US Senate | 21 Comments

This satire piece, appearing in the DC Examiner pretty much nails the judicial outlook of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.  I can’t imagine any rational reason why Senators Warner and Webb would vote to confirm someone like this who clearly values racial preferences over the Constitution, other than following a mindless intent to support whatever insane decision Harry Reid and The Messiah Obama make.  Unfortunately, instead of representing the people that elected them, that’s precisely the way these Senators have been voting.  When it comes to a vote on Sotomayor’s nomination don’t expect them to listen to you, watch them follow this line of reasoning…

“In their majority ruling in Ricci, Justices Roberts, Alito, Kennedy, Scalia and Thomas failed to take into account the cultural forces exerted on a Latina appeals court judge,” said Sotomayor. “Historical, entrenched institutional prejudice can cause a person, even a wise Latina, to make emotional decisions which, while consistent with the cultural norms of the aggrieved ethnic group, might not comport entirely with the specific language of the Constitution — a document of questionable practical value due to the Anglo-Saxon cultural bias of its authors.”

Sotomayor said she hopes the threat of a lawsuit will be enough to persuade the Supreme Court to reverse its ruling.

“The court’s rejection of my opinion proves, ipso facto, the kind of bias that President Obama will eliminate by placing me on the court,” she said. “The all-male, non-Latino court majority lacks the sympathy to set aside the cold rationality of the Constitution for the good of the people.”

We didn’t get Senators that would represent us in Webb and Warner, we got Senators that would do little but blindly do whatever Harry Reid tells them to do.  When Webb comes up for re-election next year, if he hasn’t slipped out of the Harry Reid leash and shown an interest in representing Virginians rather than simply supporting the Senate Majority leader, he could end up with a very tough re-election fight.  The vote on Sotomayor scheduled in the next few weeks will tell us who he stands with, and what he really stands for.

I’ll be surprised if he stands with us.

She will be confirmed. Webb and Warner will both vote for confirmation. Both will be re-elected.

    So it goes.

Webb was more of a reaction to George Allen than a “pro-action” to anything. Next year’s election should be very interesting. Webb seems like a good guy who doesn’t really stand for much of anything. He is a man with patriotic credentials. I’d be happy to elect him as “Uncle At Large” to all of Virginia’s children. However, unless he starts taking observable stands on the issues, I see no reason to favor his re-election. But I must now also put forth my mandatory “McCain Caveat” - candidates don’t run against a perfect alternative they run against the other candidate. Webb is pretty lackluster. But who knows what kind of candidate the Republicans will nominate. And Webb’s lack of zeal is about a C- level problem. It would be great to have somebody more aggressively representing Virginia in that Senate seat. But he’s hardly a crisis.

Sotomayor said she hopes the threat of a lawsuit will be enough to persuade the Supreme Court to reverse its ruling.

Doesn’t this thinking go along with the recent Puerto Rican Education and Defense fund decision to sue the City of Manassas over the “family” ruling? Unfortunately, the City caved.

No equal rights under Attorney General Holder … or his boss. He testified that the hate crimes bill he is pushing discriminates and will not - need not - protect all Americans against hate crimes.

According to Holder, the only groups to be included in “hate crimes” are:
Hispanics, blacks, jews, homosexuals…..but not our military!! According to
    Holder, they are never targeted.

Fran, I’m no fan of the hate crime concept…Hate crime is duckspeak for thought crime. It’s not about physical assault, but what one thinks. Equivalent to the Orwellian newspeak term crimethink.

No matter who Holder allows on his hate crimes list or who he omits … the message is clear. He is dividing everyone into two groups:

    Criminals and victims.

Let’s see…a potential Supreme Court justice that refers to the Constitution of the United States as a “document of questionable practical value”?

    Are you kidding me?

isdlt: yes, Greg and the author of the quoted piece ARE kidding you. It was a satire. Look it up and you’ll understand that this is not a real world event. It’s supposed to be funny (I think)

    Harold B -

Yes, I am one of Webb’s staffers. That’s why I rated him a C-. That’s why I said that he doesn’t really stand for much of anything. That’s why I said I see no reason to favor his re-election. That’s why I sad that he was pretty lackluster.

I am not sure what you do for a living. However, I hope that Webb’s staffers do a better job with their employment than you do with your job. You obviously can’t read and then assimilate what you read into a cogent understanding of the written material.

I am not a Webb staffer. I am not even a Webb supporter. That much should have been clear from a second grader’s reading of my comments.

My only point is that Jim Webb hardly represents a clear and present danger to the conservative cause. Barack Obama? Clear and Present Danger. Gerry Connelloy? Clear and Present Danger. Creigh Deeds (if elected)? Clear and present danger. Janet Howell? Clear and present danger.

But Jim Webb? He’s just not that big a problem

Sotomayer thinks that people who study and work hard should be held back so that the mediocre people have a chance to “compete” (re: the white fire fighter case).

This is survival of the UN-FITTEST.

A real turn of events for evolution oriented libs.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama said Thursday the Supreme Court was “moving the ball” on affirmative action in this week’s decision favoring white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., but he added that the court had not ruled out the use of racial preferences in the future.

In a White House interview with The Associated Press, the president also said, “I don’t think that hiring on the basis of race … alone is constitutionally possible.” Obama, a former teacher of constitutional law, said, “I’ve always believe that affirmative action was less of an issue or should be less of an issue than it has been made out to be in news reports.”

AP-WASH DC - In a move certain to fuel the debate over Obamas qualifications for presidency the group Americans for Freedom of Information has released copies of President Obamas college transcripts from Occidental College. Released today the transcript indicates that Obama under the name Barry Soetoro received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate. To qualify for the scholarship a student must claim foreign citizenship.

No, If Webb runs again he will not be re-elected. No way. Too many of us will be working hard to be sure he is un-seated.

    And Karla,
You believe the left leaning snopes–you are going to have to do better than that….

    Better than what, dee ?

No court has ordered Obama records - college transcripts or otherwise - to be released.

There is no “group” named “Americans for Freedom of Information”.

How do we know that this Occidental Records post was not created by Obama supporters wishing to discredit those that want solid, irrefutable answers to his record and eligibility?
Lefty blogs have been flogging this thing as all the “proof ‘ they need that the opposition has nothing on Obama but baseless conspiracies.

IMHO, Sotomayor is lying her way into a position of power and trust just as Obama did….presenting themselves as middle road moderates despite their records and histories.
