We’re Gonna Party!

The buzz I’m hearing is that the turnout at the Independence Day Tea Party at the McCoart Center in Prince William County is going to be tremendous. The importance of that cannot be overstated, since this is not an election year for Congress and the only thing that will get their attention in an off-election year are very large, boisterous and highly passionate protests. Without strong citizen participation, Congress and the Administration will continue their hugely irresponsible over-spending and debt creation believing that the American public isn’t going to remember any of this about a year and a half from now. To get their attention and force them into behaving with some semblance of fiscal responsibility, the American public is going to have to scare the heck out of them, and this is precisely the way to do it.
The left is extremely concerned about these protests, as evidenced by the increasingly shrill denunciations thrown against these grass-roots events. They can’t ignore the tea parties, they can’t argue that the policy alternatives presented at the tea parties are bad, so all that’s left for them is to try to attack the individual speakers and refer to the events with terminology heavily laden with sexual innuendo. They are in a bind, as it is pretty difficult to argue that tripling the national debt, burdening the budget with excessive entitlement spending, and passing bills without even bothering to read them is a good idea.
July 4th is a perfect time to celebrate the declaration of our independence by engaging in exactly the behavior our founding fathers exhibited leading up to our declared break with Britain. They protested against unreasonable taxes that pale in comparison to what we are now burdened with, they decried a government that acted in defiance of the best interests of the American public, and demanded the freedom and liberty to establish a government that was responsive to their needs and interests. The parallels between then and now are striking, and were those early patriots still with us today not only would they be proud of the way we seek to safeguard the legacy they have left us, they would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us in this fight to reclaim our heritage.
America was not founded to be an experiment in Socialism. The preservation of “life, liberty and property” as common goals for our nation wasn’t established so we could punish those who succeed with high taxes in order to reward those who failed with government subsidies. The Constitution doesn’t endow the federal government with the power to take control over huge swaths of the financial, auto, and health care industries, and subsidize them with public funds so they can unfairly compete against privately owned companies. “In God We Trust” hasn’t morphed into “No God But Global Warming”, “E Plurbius Unum” doesn’t now translate into “we are all equal, but some are more equal than others”, and Partick Henry hasn’t (yet) been edited in our textbooks to now be quoted as saying “give me liberty, or give me some stimulus and send the bill to my children!”
The Republic so many fought and died for is in grave danger. The people, as in “We the People” are the only ones who can rescue it.
There is no more appropriate activity you can engage in on this celebration of the Declaration of Independence than join me and the many, many others who will gather at the McCoart Center tomorrow. If you love your country, if you believe that patriotism means something more than watching a television, if you believe that what we pass on to our children is worth at the very least three hours of your time on a Saturday, you will be there. I will.

“What is this oozing behemoth, this fibrous tumor, this monster
of power and expense hatched from the simple human desire
for civic order? How did an allegedly free people spawn a
vast, rampant cuttlefish of dominion with its tentacles in every
orifice of the public?”

I stayed up late last night making signs. DH, DD and I will be attending. Hope the rain stays away.
The spending of our Federal Government is nothing short of a “Ponzi Scam”…but unlike Bernie Madoff, the bureaucratic perps, don’t have to answer to anyone…they don’t go to jail…they just print more money and have another cocktail. For the sake of our children, and in fact, for the sake of our very country, this simply MUST stop! It simply can not be allowed to continue because it can NOT continue for long.
Republican, Democrat, Independent, or nothing…it makes no difference…it simply can not be allowed to continue.
Article from the Washington Times - 3 July 2009
I guess La Raza will now consider the government of Italy racist.
ITALY
Tough new law targets illegals
ROME | Italy adopted a tough law against illegal immigration Thursday, including a measure allowing citizens to mount their own patrols, despite fierce criticism from rights groups and the Vatican.
The European Commission announced that it would examine the new measures to determine whether they comply with European Union norms.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had made tougher immigration rules a cornerstone of the election campaign that saw him returned to power in May 2008.
Under the new law, illegal immigration becomes a criminal offense; anyone caught housing an illegal immigrant could face jail; and parents registering a baby’s birth have to present papers to show they are legal residents.
Perhaps the most controversial measure permits “citizens groups” to mount patrols on the lookout for public order offenses.
Off subject but may provide a chuckle or two.
Q. What is the only thing God and Obama have in common?
A. No birth certificate.
Happy 4th of July, America!
Anon,
And God does not think he is obama.
“Thus to the tyrants!”
Yes COM, and that’s a major difference between the two of T/them. Thank God for small favors….:)
I plan on attending. And I’ll be carrying my Gadsden flag.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag
Can we open-carry? That would be a hoot!
Tomorrow, I’ll be exercising not only the 1st Amendment, but the 2nd as well.
Open carry is permitted on the grounds of the McCoart Center under Virginia law. Localities do not have the power to restrict either open or concealed carry in their government buildings, other than those used by the police for law enforcement purposes, despite the concerted efforts of some liberal Northern Virgina jurisdictions.
Sounds like fun.
I’m partying right now…I’m on such a high right now, knowing that we’ve finally heard the last of that stupid redneck Alaskan bimbo.
Anon,
Once again the libs true feelings come out on how they feel about women. Libs hate children, women who think for themselves, and the old. The only women libs like are those that kill babies if a woman thinks for herself and does not buy into the liberal lie, she simply is worthless to them.
People who voted VA blue have been partying for quite some time. Nice of some to finally catch up!
I am going to the Prince William County “tea party” at 1:00 pm on July 4th because I don’t want to pay other people’s mortgages, bail out unworthy banks, subsidize in-state tuition for illegal aliens, own General Motors or Chrysler or write off their debt to taxpayers, subsidize a cap and trade auction without the rest of the world participating or watch my retirement savings be degraded by inflation which will come and finally I don’t want to pay other folks health care; my own is expensive enough.
I hope those who attend don’t come overtly displaying firearms. It would detract from the message about taxation and possibly appear threatening to some participants. One message at a time.

I seriously hope you believe that. You’re feelings will be so CRUSHED at a later date. Bwahahahaha!
>women who think for themselves
HAHAHAHA! Did you listen to her rambling, incoherent speech? I challenge you to go get a transcript of it, and point to a single sentence that isn’t run-on, and is grammatically correct, makes sense, and conveys actual information.
>You’re [sic] feelings will be so CRUSHED at a later date.
Uh, no. Sorry, but you don’t wait until a holiday weekend and go, “Bye-bye!!!” and scarper off and still have a career in politics. She’s done. No senate run, no presidential run. Embrace obscurity, Caribou Barbie.
>Libs hate children
Yeah, she’s the one dragging her retarded baby around like a prop, walking down airplane steps with him in one hand, waving with the other, slinging him around in late-night appearances, but WE’RE the ones that hate kids. Are y’all starting to understand now why you LOST??? Republicans couldn’t even beat a SNL comedian. Do you get it yet? Or do you have the same level of self-awareness that the Palins have? (Which to say, none.)
HE HE HE! Toooo funnie.
The libs were lording it over us here on Nov 7, so why the anger issues now?
Disillusionment setting in?
Can’t find a job?
‘
You show your true colors there calling her baby ‘retarded’. Very nice! How classy of you. Now we know what kind of person you really are, hateful!
“Yeah, she’s the one dragging her retarded baby around like a prop”
How political incorrect of SP to care directly for her own child. Someone should call Child Protective Services!
A lib. would hire a few illegals to do the caring responsibilities, but when campaigning I am sure a way would be found to do some “propping”.
Folks, we MUST have more than one “Anonymous” posting here. The one above
at 6:38 is the real deal, but I question the moron from yesterday at 9:13 who
spoke of Gov Palin’s “retarded” baby. Has he/she no compassion? Have you
heard the expression: “There, but for the Grace of God, go I”? How dare you?
Like it or not, we have NOT heard the last of Palin and that’s a good thing!
Howard the Duck, I agree with you. I wonder how this “change” is working for
Anonymous (of 9:13)?
Hmmm, good question.

Doesn’t take much, does it? Looks like you don’t need much of an excuse to get high.
Anon,
Calling kids retarded in trying to show how you libs like them is pretty funny.
Regardless of how you feel about her politics, you should be happy a woman has had a huge impact on the politics over the last year. Yet, you of course can’t, because she did not kill her baby, does not support a health care system that would allow old people to die, based on the cost of care.

You seem stupid. Palin does not.
I am back from the Tea Party. It was a good turn out, but not great. I had really hoped to see many more people there.
On the lighter side…check out Rachel Maddow’s serious concern over Obama’s “prolonged detention” program….even SHE is starting to get it. When the left starts coming to grips….THATS change you can believe in!! Take a moment to watch this clip…it’s worth it.

Just got back from the Prince William Tea Party, and it was really an outstanding event. Jay O’Brien was a great emcee, the speakers were terrific, the open mike at the end was a really sharp idea, and about 400-500 people showed up with all kinds of great signs.
I shot about three hours of video on two cameras, which will take some time to boil down into finished products, so stay tuned for some great videos to start showing up early next week!
You can always tell a lib/socialist by the tone of their conversation. If they aren’t railing against a true woman, they’re defending a Barney Frank type or some other freak of nature.
Looking forward to an open thread to discuss Sarah Palin’s upcoming indictment, and discussion of whether or not she can galvanize the right wing from a prison cell.
Sarah may have reved up the political machine, but she is not as effective as she (you) thinks she is. If you really look at her record, she is not a shining star (and she is far from the worst).
She grew the long term debt of Wasilla from 1 million to 25 million when she was mayor.
She took the bridge to nowhere funding and did not build the bridge, but spent the money.
Like it or not, she did use Trig for political purposes - any other loving mother that I know of would have him in bed during the times of many of the political events. With someone in my extended family was born with Down Syndrome, the family adjusted their careers so that they could take better care of their daughter - but I would not expect the Palin’s to have to do that.
Sarah Palin’s been a great American except for :
1. Having a husband who belonged to a party that wanted Alaska to secede from the US
2. Lying about #1
3. Misusing her office to include punishing perceived enemies, to include the State Trooper instance she’s been admonished over
4. Having her house built as quid pro quo for influence peddling
5. Doing away with building permits in Wasila, which had the effect of helping to obscure #3
6. Resigning her elected office supposedly on a whim
McCain CERTAINLY showed his usual good judgement putting this woman on his ticket. And I’m sure many of you here showed your USUAL GREAT JUDGEMENT voting for her to be next in line for the Presidency.
Apparently they’ve gotten some solid testimony on #4, which has led to #6. RIP Sarah Palin’s political future. I won’t miss her.
She did have two solid acheivements. She made Republicans hate Obama even more than they did before she so effectively bashed him. And she did prevent any Russian invasion from coming through Alasks. Quite a legacy.
For the record, I don’t agree with criticizing her for having a baby, or for not hiding the fact.
I’m afraid that I’m not as enamored of Sarah Palin as some folks are. I think that the Republican party is making a huge mistake by using her for anything other than an example of a successful conservative woman. I don’t think that she is well spoken. Her family situation and her lack of national experience in politics will hurt her chances at national office. Where are the Reagan conservatives? Doesn’t anyone on the RNC get it? Grass roots conservatives (who really are the majority of voters) are sick of the greed and the bullying of the Bush administration, and now the irresponsibility and bullying of the Obama administration. My God, why can’t we come up with someone that can appeal to conservative democrats without offending republicans? You know, a responsible adult? Someone who can lead and keep their pants on? The libs are like children without a babysitter, trashing our economy and country with pie-in-the-sky programs, rushing to destroy the house before their parents (the next election) get home. Illegal Immigration is only one way to trash our nation. Italy and the rest of Europe finally wised up. When will we?
Sarah Palin is the BEST thing to happen to the Democratic Party. She creates the polarization that will drive away Republicans who don’t buy into the religious right’s ultra conservative (almost like the Taliban in some respects) agenda… and they will have no place to go but Democrat.
I’m one of those “grass roots Republicans” who is offended by a party platform that attempts to impose one narrow religious perspective on people who don’t share the same beliefs. That’s not what the founding fathers had in mind. The Republican Party is quickly becoming an irrelevant clique of like minded right wingers on their way to becoming a footnote in history.
As a “Joe Scarborough” Republican, I think that’s a shame…
The Potomac News on-line is reporting 150 people showed up. I was disappointed in the total number of people that showed, but I believe that the 150 count is very, very low to the point of intentionally misreporting the facts.
I was there for a bit, I think the 150 number was extremely low estimating on the MJM. I was thinking double that easy
Glad you went to the tea party Mr. Way and that you talk a big conservative show on this blog, but why did you vote yes to allow the Equal Rights Commission to force my City taxes to go towards hiring a spanish speaking housing “advocate” to make that radical group happy?
Both Parties, can you clarify your statement about an upcoming Palin indictment? The FBI just announced that there is absolutely no investigation of Palin and no forthcoming indictment whatsoever. The FBI added that there is no “wiggle room” in that statement. So much for the national level. What else you got?

Might want to stay away from the Daily Kos and DU or your talking points. Leninists never get anything right. It’s part of their mindset.
Ain’t happening.
I hope the tea party went well.
Speaking of parties - does anyone know where I can buy Pabst Blue Ribbon beer (by the case) in NoVA (especially Sterling)? The store I used to frequent has stopped selling PBR for reasons nobody can explain. I’ve looked in a couple of other stores and they don’t have PBR. I guess an American beer with a red-white-and-blue label is persona non grata here in Liberal land. For what it’s worth - any help given will continue to shock the McLean - Great Falls crowd who comes to my house and finds that all I have is PBR.
Thanks in advance.
Groveton,
PBR is a beverage almost, but not entirely, completely unlike beer. Seriously, when there’s so many other choices out there–beers with actual flavor–why on earth would you want to drink bland, tasteless, weasel piss?
Do yourself a favor, and pick up something that’s actually good. Give your taste buds a treat.
I’m just saying…
The GOP nominated one of the most liberal candidates in years, and where did that get them? Colin Powell, another “rino” decided to cast his vote for obama, and said the GOP was too far to the right, well, now Powell is starting to air doubts about obama. How stupid does he look now? Pretty stupid.
The GOP does best when it is run by conservatives.
George W Bush is one of those “narrow minded” Religious Rubes, and he won twice, including by a larger margin in his second victory. How did that hurt the party?
I would say the Dems are the ones who are narrow minded. If you are not pro baby killing, you stand no chance in winning a nomination for National office.
I had a great time at the Protest. With many people coming and going, it was hard to put an estimate on the crowd, but it was more than 150 people.
citizenofmanassas…
Re George Bush et.al., I’m always surprised when a supposedly pro-life crowd rallies around a former President who is responsible for an unnecessary war that has caused 4321 young American men and women their lives (not to mention the untold deaths among Iraqis men, women, and children.) Why are their lives less? I’m guessing some of those victims wish they had a “choice”.
He may not have hurt the party; however, he certainly hurt our standing in the world, our financial systems (we don’t need no regulation…), the balanced budget Clinton left him (the war and the biggest spending free last century), etc. etc. etc.
Ironically, McCain might have won if he campaigned in what he believed rather than the party line. I’ll take Powell any day (and the fact that “your” tent isn’t big enough for folks like us says it all).
I’m a Conservative. Our definition of what that means is very different. The numbers indicate your views represent a shrinking minority. That’s a pity… for the Party that I used to know and love. Third Party, anyone?

I was there as well. I guesstimate the crowd at 300-400. Greg said they had an “open mike” [sic] time. I wasn’t there for that, unfortunately.
to: “I saw it with my own eyes”
Regarding why I voted for the housing advocate funding, the alternative would have been to reopen the very expensive lawsuit and to subject the city to possible contempt of court citation. There is a governing consent agreement which we are obliged to follow. I have seen the inside of the county jail several times and would prefer my visits to be looking in rather than looking out.
Palin’s bizarre resignation was driven by something.
Someday someone will explain to me what the US should have done about Iraq. Their despotic, all powerful leader was certifiable. His legacy may have been crazier than him. They had missiles which they used in anger. They had been trying to build nuclear weapons. They had killed thousands of their own citizens.
Oh wait, that’s not Iraq … that’s North Korea.
I guess we’ll see how well President Obama’s “I’ll tell the United Nations on you” plan works with Kim Jong-il.
I really don’t know which is the lesser of two evils - a pre-emptive war which leaves thousands of Americans dead or waiting for a psycho to make the first move (and possibly leave tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Americans dead).
I don’t think this is as easy a choice as some would have it.
As for Bush’s “axis of evil” comment - given North Korea’s behavior and the recent Iranian elections (and resulting bloodbath) - was he really wrong? That comment seems kind of insightful in retrospect.
Beer Aficionado -
In my recent search for a new source of Pabst I have seen raspberry beer, cherry beer, beer made from wheat and a Brazilian brew called Budweiser. I have tried Guinness and choked down some Sam Adams. I had some Old Dominion (made from water in Goose Creek of all places). I miss my Pabst (Gold Medal Winner in 2006 - World Beer Cup).
I looked on the PBR web site. It said to call some distributer in Chantilly to find out where I can buy the stuff around here. I need a BVBL ruling - do I really have to verify that everyone working at this distributer is in the country legally or can I just call them and get the “low down” on where the Pabst might be found?
I can’t take another glass of stuff that looks like mud, smells like skunk, tastes like candy or is made in Belgium.
Help!
“She grew the long term debt of Wasilla from 1 million to 25 million when she was mayor.”
That’s easy enough to do simply by taking out a bond to build a new police, fire, or school building…or a new recreation center.
It’s when you take out bonds to do all 4 of those within a few years of each other that you might start having some financial difficulties.
Try a Mickey! Neat squat bottles with pale, golden malt brew from Milwaukee. Pretty good for the price.
Pabst used to sponsor some of the first boxing matches shown on TV in the 50s. Haven’t seen it around here lately, though.
Did Corey Stewart show up?
Speaking of Colin (RHINO) Powell…….. a real class act.
Rember this?

I did NOT see Corey Stewart at the Tea Party. I know he did not speak.
I’m Just saying,
Sorry, but you are the minority in the GOP. How did George Bush win twice towing the party line, yet McCain could not do the same? I’ll say it again, because McCain was the most liberal candidate put up by the GOP in many campaigns, and he lost because of it, and because he did not tow the company line. Also, the media no longer had a need to prop up the “maverick”.
I love you rino types, you have all this big talk for how the GOP needs to be run, but can’t say a negative word about the Dems, maybe it’s because you realize you are a Dem and just can’t bring yourself to say it.
You are watching the Dem party turn into the Ant-America party before our eyes, yet you worry about the size of the tent of the GOP.
Do you ever notice the Dems do not have a fight over how large their “tent” should be, or any internal discussions on where their party should go? Why is that? Is it because the Dem’s only accept the far left into their Party? Do you really think blinky has more in touch with the Average American? Or obama? Or Ted Kennedy?
At least the GOP has discussions about where the party should go, and on one level that is good, because it does show the GOP has a large “tent”. However, because the media(the dems) spin it as in fighting, and the purging of the party of anyone who is not “right-wing” nut job, you rinos believe it.
So how did it go? I missed it (husband had a change in work schedule)…seems you at least had great weather!
“She grew the long term debt of Wasilla from 1 million to 25 million when she was mayor.”
Those bonds were also put to a vote before the residents of Wasilla and were approved.
“Those bonds were also put to a vote before the residents of Wasilla and were approved.”
Which is more than you can say for any of the bonds MP took out.

Groveton, go to the cite below. You will find two distributers in the area. One is in Chantilly and the other in Fredericksburg. They may be able to provide you with address of a store that sells it. Good luck!

I believe the agreement says subject to available funding Mr. Way . . .
Anon:
Many thanks. I did check the Pabst web site. I called the Chantilly distributor yesterday. They were taking Monday off as their 4th of July holiday. I’ll try them again today.
To anonymous
I would not want to be the one who has to explain to a federal judge why a city with a $300 million budget cannot fund one COURT-MANDATED position. I would have preferred to have integrated it into the existing manpower, but realities trump desires.
Jonathan Way
Mr. Way,
Tell the judge for the same reason the Federal Government can’t seem to find a lick of common sense among 535 members of Congress.
There is a lot of “realities trumping desires”. Why is it the City can’t seem to find access to our lake, but can hire a community activist? Why is the City can fund a arts center that is not needed, but can’t seem to find the time or the funds to gain access to our lake?
No Stewart or Stirrup at said party? Maybe they didn’t deem it was “important” enough to spend a few minutes. Oh well!
I am so disappointed at the numbers this time around…all over the country. I had really thought that there would be large numbers. The media pretty much ignored it this time around…even Fox.
What happened to all the people that are concerned about this spending, etc.?
I feel that the majority are sitting this one out and that our country is doomed to change for the worse.
Starry,
I was a bit disappointed also, but hey, there was somewhere between 350-400 people who took time out to show up at the McCoart Building on a beautiful 4th of July afternoon. And that is 350-400 people who now know they are not alone in how they feel about the direction of the county.
And with regard to Stirrup and Stewart not being there, that didn’t bother me a bit. As I recall the Tea Party in April had nothing but GOP office holders speaking and it was nice this time around to see that most of the speakers were politicos as such.

You raise a good point about the use of Lake Manassas. We had a lawyer make essentially the same point at a recent City Council meeting.
I for one do not fully understand why the lake isn’t open to non-power water craft. I have heard about right-of-way access issues and also zebra mussel issues.
I don’t think the city government is opposed to using the lake. I certainly am not opposed provided health, safety and can be protected and pollution can be mitigated. I have always heard the county is opposed to opening the lake, but nobody tells me why.
I suspect this matter will come up for further discussion in the reasonable future. I agree it is time to do something or explain why we are not doing something.
Jonathan Way
Mr Way,
Thanks. I think one of the more weaker excuses used by the City is to prevent a terrorist attack on our drinking water. All one has to do is look at the Potomac, and the Occuaquan river(which are water sources for Fairfax County, etc to see how silly that excuse is). There are no access restrictions on those bodies of water.
It comes down to the City not pushing enough and the fact the snobs now living on the lake not wanting to share it with the rightful owners. I bet if the City tried again, access could be gained using the old site. It seems the disagreement was over a small issue and if both sides came to the table in good faith it could be worked out.
It’s just a shame that 800 acres of great fishing is not being enjoyed.
