Austin Haynes Should Be Citizen Of The Year

By Greg L | 9 July 2009 | Manassas City | 6 Comments

When Manassas City had to cut the annual employee picnic because of budget constraints, Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Austin Haynes felt city residents and businesses could step in and help.  Without anyone asking him to do so, he raised the funds to host a picnic for city employees, saying “the employees of the City of Manassas are tremendous, and deserve a picnic.”  This is in addition to his plan to raise funds for the Parks and Recreation by swimming 5.1 miles and doinf 510 push-ups in 510 minutes on his 51st birthday this year.

I don’t know if Manassas has a “Citizen of the Year” award, but if they do, Austin Haynes deserves it.

That is absolutely a great thing to do. Yes, the City of Manassas employees do work hard for the citizens and businesses and they do deserve a picnic unto themselves. Kudos to Austin Haynes.

Thanks for the Kudos. I am a former Parks and Rec Chair, not current. Also, let me plug the Swim a Thon and Dave Core is swimming this year also. That is being held on the 31st. Please email me at your-realtor@mris.com if any one would like to contribute.
There is a plan to do picnics for county employees also, but that is a much bigger endeavor.

I know this is off topic and I apologize up front. Maybe Greg would be willing to start an open thread. Anyway, I have noticed people walking around the Mapledale section of Dale City carrying bats. These are adults that appear to be out on a walk. Does anyone know why this is?

Back to topic: Great job Austin! You have done a lot for the community, and the citizens of Manassas and Prince William are fortunate to have you around.
