Obama Protects Racists Who Intimidate Voters

By Greg L | 9 July 2009 | National Politics, Crime | 22 Comments

Maybe you thought this administration gave a whit about enforcing laws that protect the civil rights of Americans.  Perhaps you bought into the rhetoric liberals typically trot out about preventing voter intimidation.  The recent behavior of Attorney General Eric Holder should utterly dispel such false notions, and the fact that Representative Frank Wolf can’t get any answers from the Obama Administration while the whole of the Democratic Party plays their “see no evil, if done by our people” game should make it perfectly clear that the only interest Democrats have in protecting civil liberties is when doing so helps them gain or maintain political power.

Last election, three members of the New Black Panther Party who were accredited as poll watchers for the Democratic Party stood outside of a polling place in Philadelphia waving around billy clubs and shouting racial epithets such as “You are about to be ruled over by the black man, cracker!” at white voters, trying to keep them from voting.  The Justice Department, under the Bush Administration,  promptly filed suit against New Black Panther Party members Malik Shabazz, Samir Shabazz, and Jerry Jackson.  With video evidence and plenty of eyewitnesses, this case was incredibly easy to litigate.

None of the defendants showed up at the courthouse, and none of the defendants filed any defense.  Just as the court was going to issue a summary judgment in the case, what does the Justice Department do?  It withdrew the complaint and actively prevented the court from rendering a default verdict.  The Justice Department could have just let this run it’s course, and that would have involved less effort and less expense than what it did to actively make sure that racist thugs who show up with weapons at a polling place got off scott-free.  Why?  Despite repeated efforts by Representative Wolf, the Justice Department refuses to explain itself.

Frank Wolf is keeping up the heat, and calling on the House Judiciary Committee to hold hearings on this matter.  They better.  If Eric Holder is going to protect criminals like this, and Nancy Pelosi helps provide cover for him solely because the defendants happened to be aligned with the interests of the Obama Administration, this is going to set the electorate on fire for next year’s Congressional mid-term elections.  The Obama version of Hugo Chavez’s Bolivarian militias are an utterly intolerable assault on freedom and liberty.

A big thanks goes out to Frank Wolf for not dropping this.  The American people need answers, and this outrageous behavior can never again be allowed to go unpunished.  The protection of civil rights can never be selectively enforced in order to support a political agenda, as replacing the rule of law with the rule of the jungle like this is intolerable.

    Can you just imagine the fallout had the thugs been white and were harrasing black voters? The would have been charged with ‘HATE CRIMES.”

    Actually, a similar situation was claimed a couple years ago here in PWC. The charge was that some hispanic voters were being “harassed” by white racists, and the county did conduct an investigation.

    BTW, I am suprised there is no news here about the Wellington stalker who has tried to abduct two girls along Clover Hill Road. Anybody want to lay odds on his ethnicity or legal status once they catch him? He better pray I don’t catch him in the act.

    Are you sure they were the “New Black Panther Party”? Gee, they are listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Groups List.

    By the way, that was sarcasm. I know from Mr. Wolf’s letter and the letter from the US Commission on Civil Rights that the individuals were identified as members of the New Black Panther Party.

    I think another story that involves race from the Philly area is getting more attention then this one. A camp that is made up of mostly black children were denied entry to a private clubs’ swimming pool after the racial make up of the kids were discovered. The camp had signed a contract with the club for use of the club’s pool.

    That story will gain more media attention then this story even though, both revolve around race. However, when minorities are the victims, the media is more sympathetic then if minorities are not 5he victims.

    Check this story out from Ohio.

    Does anyone really think hate crime charges would not have already been filed if the victims were minority and the preps white? This is why hate crime laws do not work, the protected races are never considered to be racist or commit crimes based for racial reasons.

    Its nice to see a good conservative Republican stand up and fight this administration. Wolf is doing a great job fighting the fight as a conservative Republican willing to take on the current administration. Far too many Republicans are afraid of taking a stand right now. I am glad Congressman Wolf is willing to stand up for good government.

    Has the state of Pennsylvania stood by while the fed’s bail on this? If so, why?

    To whom should a person report acts of intimidation?

    Pennsylvania’s Department of State recommends that persons who are victims of or who witness voter intimidation, report the incident to their county board of elections. In Pennsylvania, each county commission is required to investigate alleged violations and report them to the District Attorney.176 The District Attorney has the authority to prosecute such violations.177

    As for hate crime, according to our Attorney General Eric Holder one must have the proper motivation to be labeled a qualifying hater and the victim’s race, religion, sexual orientation or other federal recognized status must have a sufficient history of crime committed against it with the specific motivational drive in order to qualify for hate crime status.

    So, “he had the money in his wallet so I shot him” or “he looked at me so I shot him” or most other excuses offer do not fit as a qualifying motivation.

    I have my issues with Frank Wolf (e.g. the national debt has gone from $1 trillion to $11 trillion during his tenure), but:
    1. he is pursing this issue.
    2. he did call out the Obama administration on the dumping of the Guantanamo Uighurs in Fairfax County.

    This is no different from what you CONSERVATIVES did in the south in the 50’s and 60’s until the LIBERALS passed the Voting Rights Act of 1964. You should contributing to their legal defense fund to protect their right to express themselves.

    Stop what, the voting rights act of 1965? No I did not!

    As for your never ending request for money to cure problems that money alone will never cure…

    “You should contributing to their legal defense fund to protect their right to express themselves.”

    I ask you Old enough, is not the once great city of Detroit enough “self expression” for you?

    It would seem that anyone who does not sit in your sandbox of angelic “LIBERALS” gets demonized as a “CONSERVATIVE”.

    History seems to support Barry Goldwater on this issue:

    The root difference between the Conservatives and the Liberals of today is that Conservatives take account of the whole man, while the Liberals tend to look only at the material side of man’s nature. The Conservative believes that man is, in part, an economic, an animal creature; but that he is also a spiritual creature with spiritual needs and spiritual desires. What is more, these needs and desires reflect the superior side of man’s nature, and thus take precedence over his economic wants. Conservatism therefore looks upon the enhancement of man’s spiritual nature as the primary concern of political philosophy. Liberals, on the other hand, - in the name of “concern for “human beings” — regard the satisfaction of economic wants as the dominant mission of society.

    No, Citizen12, did you do anything to prohibit the open racism and overt, brutal tactics that prohibited blacks from voting? That seems to be the issue you had with those 2 thugs standing outside the poll. (By the way, I’m against their presence at a voting place and would have called the cops. I’m for deporting illegal aliens as well…I’m no liberal by any means!)

    My point was, and I really feel bad for you that I have to spell this out simply, conservatives, especially from my native south, fought tooth and nail to keep the blacks “in their place” Re: Mississippi burning. I find it amusing how much you react to the same thing now. I find your conservative hypocricy amusing as well.

    Here’s the voting results for the voting rights act:

    Vote count

    The two numbers in each line of this list refer to the number of representatives voting in favor and against the act, respectively.

    Senate: 77–19

    * Democrats: 47–17
    * Republicans: 30–2

    House: 333–85

    * Democrats: 221–61
    * Republicans: 112–24

    If you add the numbers up, 78 Democrats voted against the act, compared to 26 Republicans.

    That means that Democrats were 3 times more likely to vote against the act.

    One of the Democrats that voted against it is Al Gore Sr.

    Citizen and Research: I didn’t say Republicans and Democrats. I said CONSERVATIVES and LIBERALS. Your conservative theology crossed party lines back in the day. This was Nixon’s “Southern Strategy”, remember? Reagan used it as well.

    Oh…Citizen, Goldwater was very disenchanted with the conservative movement having been co-opted by the neo-cons. Read John dean’s book: Dean, John W. (2006). Conservatives without Conscience. Viking Adult. ISBN 0-670-03774-5. He spend more time with the senator than you did!

    As far as neo-cons, I have no use for them. They can go back to the Democratic party they crawled out from.
