Urkel lied, the economy died!
Yeah Slick - the economy was in such great shape before Obama was elected - it was so good that Bush had a stimulus in February 08, in the form of the Tax Rebate - http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/13/bush.stimulus/ - and came up with the TARP Program, and was the first to say that we have to abandon free market principals to save the free market.
Bailed out Bear Stearns in March 08, AIG - Sept 08….etc.
Now, I do not like what is happening with our economy, but you can hardly blame Obama for what is happening - Bush can claim he inherited a recession from Clinton, but Obama can claim that he inherited a financial meltdown and a depression (or very near to it) from Bush.
Pat,
The economy is getting worse under obama. The unemployment rate is climbing at a higher rate then it was under Bush. The stimulus bill is not doing a thing, but will come back to bite us in the form of higher interest rates or high inflation, and we will seeing nothing for it. So, while it is true the economy was not in good shape when he took office, obama has not done a single thing to turn it around. The polls are starting to show a growing concern with how obama can handle the economy.
Yet, obama wants to use the State of California as a model for good energy polices. How is their economy doing? He thinks we can control the temperature of the World. He is a wack job.
COM -
Right you are! And now isn’t CA paying for the extravagant memorial service for Michael Jackson….with money they DON’T HAVE!@!!??????????
Al Sharpton should pay for it - or the family!!!
Thank you Greg. So, am I alone in the Mapledale area of Dale City, in that people are walking with baseball bats during the day? It appears to be for protection. I guess I could stop my car next time I see it and ask. Just thought I would ask here, in case anyone knows what is going on.
It seems as though the gang graffiti that’s visible from 28 S./Centreville Rd. (between Old Mill Rd. and New Braddock Rd.) has been on the fencing for months. Does anyone know why this has been allowed to remain for so long?
I have to give Sheriff Glendell Hill two thumbs down on how he handled the Lexie Glover murder.
Sheriff Glendell Hill had his staff pitch Project Lifesaver like they were Billy Mays, talking about how Lexie was in their Project Lifesaver Program and they found her before and how they found Lexie’s tracking bracelet in 20 minutes. Then when they found out they were returning Lexie to an abusive mother, the sheriff just dropped out, they didn’t know anything. Nothing, not they are sorry and will look into their policy. Not they will look into where they can do better, nothing.
According to the sheriff’s web site “Project Lifesaver emphasizes relationships between team members and the people who may wander before the need may arise for a rescue. Team members visit the home of the bracelet recipients to install the transmitter and make regular visits to maintain the equipment. Team members are specially trained, not only in use of the electronic tracking equipment, but especially in the methods to communicate with a person who has Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder.”
The sheriff’s Project Lifesaver Program failed Lexie Glover and I doubt the sheriff cares enough to do anything about it.
Fed Up,
Yes, tax money was used to pay for the service.
starryflights, those people must be rank amateurs. A baseball bat is a terrible weapon for self-defense. I could take it away from anyone, and the only people I’ve seen carrying them are ‘wannabes’.
The best answer is getting a concealed carry permit that would allow you to carry a .45 cal pistol. Much less disconcerting to the public, and far more effective if needed. I suspect the folks with bats are either stupid, or not the kind of folks you’d want to see walking around with weapons, thus stupid.
In the Navy,
I believe the area you are describing is in Centreville which is in Fairfax county. You should write to Jerry Connelly and ask him why he hasn’t had that cleaned up.
Never bring a baseball bat to a gun fight.
Pat, who was in control of Congress at the time of the Bush tax rebates????? Democrats.
Anonymous,
The sheriff is just like everyone else in Prince William. Not how can I serve the people but what can I get from the people.

Illegal alien rapes puppy
Suspect felt there was no problem,
claiming animal was his to abuse
STUART, Fla. — Junio Trenta, AKA Enrique Garcia, an illegal alien raped a puppy and was taken into custody. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a possible animal in distress. When they arrived, officers “saw Garcia sexually assaulting a 28-pound, 14- to 16-week-old dog of mixed breed.” Upon being seen, the Mexican transient said, “It’s my dog,” and, “What’s the problem?” The male dog ran and hid behind the deputies.
Garcia is charged with sexual bestiality, animal cruelty, possession of drug paraphernalia, giving a false name and exposure of sexual organs. His bond is $13,000. The dog, a 4-month-old Argentine Dogo, is reportedly being cared for by the vet says he’s OK and will recover.

Dave in PWC:
The 11th Congressional District contains parts of Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax and parts of Prince William County. In the last election, Gerry Connelly got 53.2% of the vote in Prince William County and 55.4% in Fairfax County. More than 33% of all votes for Gerry Conelly were cast from Prince William County.
I’d love to see Gerry sent home to Mantua (or, preferably back to his real home in Boston). However, that will take an effort from Prince William residents as well as Fairfax residents.
We all know the Stimulus Money is going for things that never should be. This was a gimick of the Democrats to pad their favorite Demo. buddies.
This is not what the citizens wanted. There may have been a need for help but this was not the way.
Every dollar should be listed and to whom it went. And what connection tey had with the Demo.
Just like Connelly and his 1.5 million to friend Principi, so Principi can grow larger in providing Services to all the Illegals.
Why didn’t Connelly give money to the County Agencies, who have been providing for
those who need help over the years?
As a County we can not last very long with all this free stuff going to any Tom, Dick and Harry that comes along. Course thats not their names!
Principi is involved in a couple health services and he has his Aide working for these also. That way they get double the money and Connelly provides the Stimulus Funds.
Principi acted like he was all for cleaning up Rt. One and get the hang arounds on the corner gone. Well thats not true, now we know he has found away to make money(Federal) to line his pockets. So we will not see Principi trying to get the illegals back to where they belong.
We need a NEW SUPERVISOR> SO START LOOKING NOW FOR A STRONG REPLACEMENT.

I always love to see that old, crooked Stoffregan bunch is alive and well and not realizing they got their butts handed to them in not one but two elections.
Hey…helpful hint you guys….if you want the Sheriff’s office back so much find a candidate that doesn’t hand out bribes for campaign cash and votes. It IS afterall a “law enforcement” position.
PS. It is a dead giveaway who it is when you use “Glendell” instead of “Glen.”

Yeah, blame it on Bush, everyone else is. After Obama’s racist SC nominee is appointed, blame Bush. After the Messiah grants amnesty to 20 million illegals and destroys this country and bankrupts it further, blame it on Bush. If “the great one” passes health care reform that screws everyone, blame it on Bush. EVERYONE ELSE DOES! I thought Jimmy (peanuts) Carter was the worst president this country ever had. Obama has (in the short time he has been in office) surpassed Jimmy as being the worst president. BLAME THAT ON BUSH TOO!

I don’t have a dog in this fight but Stoffregan did enforce the law, ran traffic patrols when the county wouldn’t and his end was decided when Charlie (good ole boy) Dean cried that the sheriff’s department was doing too much law enforcement and getting too many grants (that the CPD) should be getting. Did Dean ever ask for grants? If so, why didn’t he ask for the available grants to provide cameras in the police vehicles? To date, we still don’t have the cameras.
Anonymous, you are incorrect about the duties of the Sheriff. His duties are not the same as the PWCPD. That is why many years ago the County residents elected to have a professional police department rather that have a person who doesn’t answer to anyone enforce the law in the County. That doesn’t mean they don’t have the authority, it is just not their first duties. I have a problem when the sheriff complains he needs more deputies for courtroom security and he has men out doing traffic details first, which Stoffregan did. Deane did apply for grants and was competeing with Stoffregen when he shouldn’t have been. Stoffregen was a crook who sold badges and you must be one who had to turn his in. I know of at least three arrests of former reserve deputies (I use that term loosely) who used their badges provided to them by Stoffregen trying to get out of tickets and get into sporting events for free. His office was a sham. Many of his own men didn’t respect him. Glen Hill has returned the Sheriffs Office back to a respectable professional department. As far as the lexie Glover case, his department did everything is was supposed to do. He has nothing to apologize for. His deputies were not responsible for investigating complaints of abuse, that was the PD’s and Child welfare’s responsibility and the parties who performed poorly have either been fired of reprimanded. That case was a shame all the way around, but the sole person repsonsible for her death plead guilty. None of us know what what is the mind of the people who saw Lexie Glover, but if anything from this incident can be learned, then maybe she didn’t die in vain. And all of you should be ashamed of using the death of this little girl as a tool to further you political agenda against Sheriff Hill.
Johnson - that is indeed what the writer is saying. The article says,
“Household formation rates are also key to clearing the excess housing inventory, which is dragging down home prices and prolonging the housing slump. The authors of a study released in June by Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies concluded that the glut of roughly 1.5 million new homes created by years of overbuilding during the housing boom would be gone by now if household formation rates had not fallen below historic levels.
Demographers and housing experts attribute the drop in household formations to millions of individual decisions to forgo immigrating to the United States”
The typical corporate response is to keep the illegals coming to provide cheap labor.
Warren Buffett told CNBC yesterday that the way to end the housing glut and get the economy going is to stop building more houses. Duh. Why can’t the WP understand that? Nobody there must have ever taken econ 101 in college and learned that supply was the other side of demand in this equation.
Hint 1: Check out the ads in the WP or the MJM and see how many are from the real estate industry. “Objective Journalism” will never trump that golden egg.
Hint 2: In 2011 vote out any member of the PWC BOCS who takes more than 10% of their campaign financing from the development/real estate industry and/or has a bad record on those issues. Believe me - that information will be coming out as we get closer to the BOCS primaries and election.
Wharton School Professor Jeremy Siegel said we would need at least 500,000,000 new immigrants to have any impact on the Social Security/Medicare debacle coming shortly. He added that another way to solve that impending nightmare is to sell our nation’s assets to foreigners, as we have been with the Chinese for some time. He did not advocate either of those alternatives. The population of the US is only a little over 300,000,000 million now. Later generations (our kids and grandkids) would have to figure out how to provide SS and Medicare for those new 500,000,000 people.
Siegel said also that if we would wait until we are about 70 to retire, that would solve the problem too. When SS was created people mostly died before they reached 70 and didn’t collect benefits very long. We’re living way past that age now. Anyone else fed up with paying bailout money to finance pensions for GM UAW workers who retire at age 45?
US turning into a third world nation? US owned by China, Saudi Arabia, India, etc.? I don’t mind working past 65 so my kids won’t have to live in that world.
Immigration is not the answer to our economic woes. The solution is to get our own act together, focus on our families rather than our consumerism, save more and behave responsibly in our own personal finances.

It would be interesting to find out if said “immigrant” from el Salvador is in fact a citizen. If he is not, how is he collecting unemployment. Whatever his status is he is breaking the law by living in an overcrowded house (2 families and 2 other borders.) I’m sure he is not related to the other borders and probably not with the 2 families. Sounds like a real “cozy” arrangement. That’s how the Latino child molesters and rapists gain access to their victims.

Perhaps (I may be totally incorrect but…….) had the sheriff’s office taken the extra step since they were involved to some degree, maybe the child would be alive today. I’m not Tuesday morning quarterbacking but this situation should NEVER have happened. Some people will take the fall for what was NOT done and others will have a tough time sleeping at night.

Good grief. Could some of you people PLEASE figure out how to quote someone when copying text????
If you like Glendell Hill or not I’m sure these are some facts all can agree on.
Glendell is most likely Prince William’s richest sheriff. ( Living large in his gated million dollar mansion, driving around in his Mercedes Benz)
He is out of touch with most of the citizens of Prince William.
He is lazy. ( If he could he would do even less work for the people)
He loves spending the peoples money. ( Over 50% increase in spending in 5 years)
He’s cold. ( He doesn’t really care about the community he just wants to get paid)

A couple weeks ago, I visited my friend in Phoenix and stopped by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office In Sun City in hopes of meeting Sheriff Arpaio.
Unfortunately, he was “otherwise occupied” with a jail incident in South Phoenix, which led to a lockdown for three days.
One of his staff was very nice though and gave me a tour of the office, apologizing that I would not be able to meet the Sheriff. She gave me a couple refrigerator magnets as souveniers. As I was leaving, the told me to tell you guys to “keep up the good work.”

“Anonymous, you are incorrect about the duties of the Sheriff. His duties are not the same as the PWCPD.”
FormerCOMemployee, We have been over this many times. A Police Department does only one function of a Sheriff’s Office. Meaning a Sheriff’s Office can do the samething as a Police Department at anytime by Virginia law. On the other hand a Police Department cannot do the same things a Sheriff’s Office can because the Sheriff holds greater authority by Virginia law.
Anonymous is correct. The Sheriff is an elected official.
Anonymous, we can go over this a million more times and the fact remains, the people of PWC spoke loud and clear, they wanted a police department handling law enforcement duties and not an elected sheriff. I never said the sheriff didn’t have the authority, I said it is not his main objective. I love how you Stoffregan apologists only read the portion of posts that suit your needs. Anonymous, you didn’t have to be an employee of the Sherrifs office to have a badge, just a large bank account. Also, the police department is the chief law enforcement authority of PWC, not the sheriff. This was done by the vote of the people. The sheriff does not hold greater authority in any manner. In fact, this sheriff’s office actually has less authority than most other sheriffs as he does not control the jail, a regional board has that authority. Anonymous, please explain what a sherriff can do that the police can’t. I might be mistaken, but I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. In fact, the sheriff doesn’t even serve criminal warrants in PWC, that responsibilty belongs to the PD. Unless of course it is an arson related crime in which the Fire Marshal’s Office usually serves. Anonymous, you sound jealous of Glen Hill, because he drives a mercedes and lives in a gated community. Maybe he invested well and took care of his money, so does that make him a poor sheriff? I will tell you I have always found him approachable and willing to talk to anyone. But no matter what I write or anybody else writes you are either a friend, family or former badge holder of Stoffregan so it wont really matter. The man does what he was elected to do, run the courthouse security, transfer prisoners, serve civil petitions and perfom evictions.

The sheriff is the highest constitutionally elected law enforcement official in the county by Virginia law. Therefore, he answers to no one else other than the voters that elected him.
es-la-ley, unfortunately, the voters in PWC saw it differently, I agree he has the authority, but he is not the chief law enforcement officer in PWC. We can argue it however you like, but VA law gave the citizens of PWC the right to choose and they did. The sheriff is the Chief law enforcement officer only when the jurisdiction doesn’t have a PD such as Loudoun County. Go anywhere else in Northen Virginia and see who is running the show. I am a fan of Glen Hill, but he is not the Chief law enforcement officer in PWC. Love him of hate him, that distinction belongs to Chief Deane at this time. The bottom line is, have a Sheriff’s Deputy and a PWC police officer show up a crime scene, who has control of the scene? I all ready know the answer and that is the police officer. Just ask the deputies that tried to show up at the scene of the sniper shooting on 234 when they were actually escorted off the scene by PWCPD. This is a fact!

Junes -
How awesome is that!!!!! I would love to meet the man! He knows how to do things right!!! Wish we could have that kind of leadership and those kind of gonads here in VA!!!
Does anybody have news about Rich Anderson’s campaign for 51st HOD seat?
Rich is working really hard and by all appearances doing well. At this point in the campaigns, there’s not much in the way of polling data, so we’ll have to wait a bit and see what’s happening in the 51st.
A couple thoughts on stimulus:
Seems like Timmy Kaine made a payoff to the good education union members in PWC that like to vote democrats into office. (I thought that was Chicago style politics? Pay for playing?) Stimulus funds are being provided to the PWC Board of Education. Those stimulus funds are then being used TO GIVE PAY RAISES to the good PWC education union members next year!
Now, these teachers were not being threatened with loss of jobs, as a result of tight county finances. They would simply be given the opportunity to work at the same rates as payed during the school year just completed. Then along comes Stimulus Timmy making payoffs to the unions (as previously noted, they like to vote for democrats).
How does this stimulate the economy? How many jobs does this create? How many jobs does this save? Are the PWC education union members shovel ready projects? Well, some may be shovel ready but none were going to lose their jobs.
Surely we could have stimulated the economy by some other means? However, first thing Timmy should have done was to replace the $500,000.00 he snatched from Virginians when he decided to pay for busing democrats from Virginia into the District of Columbia to see the Coronation of the current president. Secondly, he could have targeted stimulus funds to road projects in Northern VA. I recently read Timmy complained there was no money to fund transportation projects for Virgina. Where the heck is this man’s priorities? Wasn’t he elected on the promise to fix Virginia transportation funding problem? Instead of fixing roads, he’s making gifts to PWC teachers union members. Is he attempting to fix future support for democrats?
Here is the real kicker: as a result of the Timmy Kaine stimulus gift (pay back??) to the county teachers, PWC is left holding the bag for future funding of the increased salary baseline for PWC teachers union members. Talk about unfunded mandates. . . well at least “no teacher will be left behind”.
Oh, by the way, the economy is still sinking.
Teachers WERE being laid off without the money. I know several who were destaffed. And there are MANY non-teaching positions that have been eliminated (fortunately some of those are in the bloated administration).
Oh, yeah, Virginia’s “powerful” education union. Dream on.
The ones getting the bene’s are the ADMINISTRATION.
Things could be worse, guys. In Cook County, Illinois, you can’t even die and be buried without somebody digging you up in order to make a few extra bucks on your empty gravesite. I’ve heard of recycling, but this is ridiculous. The economy must be even worse than we thought.
FormerCOMemployee, you sound like you want the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office to start fighting just like Chief Deane did over who is the biggest dog in the yard when we have citizens getting beaten and robbed in the afternoon in so called good neighborhoods. We have people arming themselves and carring baseball bats just to walk down the street. Pull your head out and tell your buddy Glendell to get off his ass and do something for the people and stop spending our money.
What is it with the Chicago area? Has anyone tested the water?
anon said on 10 Jul 2009 at 11:51 pm: Teachers WERE being laid off without the money. I know several who were destaffed.
Well that may be true, “destaffings” happen in both good and bad times. School staffing is a dynamic task, related to available funding and student populations. However, my point is that the good fairy delivered significant money to the PWC board of education that is now reflected in an increased salary baseline.
That increased salary baseline is now required to be supported by the standard county and state funding sources. The good fairy (Stimulus Timmy) will not be there in the future to annually add in funds to support that one time gift. That is a good thing, that Stimulus Timmy will be gone. However, the impact on the county and state taxpayers will linger. . .
So, in reality the PWC teachers union members have received a pay raise, using federal stimulus funds (product of democrat congress and president), controlled by a democrat governor. Don’t you think the union membership will remember that when they vote in the future? The education union certainly has a track record of endorsing democrat candidates. Is this an example of pay for play? I am just asking?
The most impacted group will be PWC residents that will be paying their shares of PWC and VA state taxes to fund the future teacher salaries.
Bottom line: Totally improper use of stimulus funds, to create future obligations for taxpayers.
Just sitting here thinking and the subject came to mind that there hasn’t been a report of a Latino prostitution bust in PWC, MC or MP in almost a year. Has our illegal alien population taken a vow of chastity? I think not!
Why should I be a conservative and not a liberal?
Anonymous, I’m sorry, where did I ever say I want the Sheriff and PD Chief to fight? I like the fact that the two men know their responsibilities and roles and can work together. Both men have law enforcement powers. You still say the sheriff has more powers but still have not identified the powers the sheriff has the PD doesn’t. That is because there are none that I know of. So instead of running your mouth back your earlier statement at 6:40 that the sheriff can do things the PD chief can’t. When in fact in PWC it is the other way around. The sheriff has no authority on a crime scene unless authorized by the police department. That responsibilty is the sole responsibilty of the PD. That is unless the crime is a fire related crime and then it belongs to the Fire Marshal’s Office.
Inquisitive-
I guess that depends on how you view the world. If you believe in personal responsibility, hard work, enjoying the rewards of both and the rule of law, then you should be a conservative. If you believe that everyone should just do what they want and have the government or someone else support them, then you should be a liberal. Conservatives usually put others before themselves, believe in a higher purpose and will fight to the death for freedom. Liberals are selfish, atheistic and will give up their freedom rather than risk injury or discomfort. Conservatives expect the government to provide basic services and leave citizens to their own devices to succeed. Liberals want the government to provide them with everything and care for their every need.
It’s up to you.
Virginia is a “right to work” state, which means teachers do not have to belong to the union. In fact, there are many, many teachers who aren’t. Prince William County is already losing great teaching talent to localities that pay their teachers more. They couldn’t afford to fall further behind. Giving the 3% COLA was a smart move.
Also, although it was a move made easier with the presence of stimulus funds, the stimulus money was not actually used for the teacher increases.
Jeff, 100% correct. Which is why many years ago the washington redskins were able to get out of the requirement to belong to the union when the courts ruled they worked in VA and not DC as the office was in VA and they practiced in Va 6 days a week. I always love it when smart people post on here and know what they are writing before they post!
FormerCOMemployee, You need to read the code of Virginia. You will see duties the sheriff can do ( Run the Jail, Collect taxes, sell personal property to satisify a debt and other duties just to name a few) that a police department cannot.
I believe you are getting confused about a sheriff’s authority and the agreement (MOU)between the county and the Sheriff.
A county must have a Sheriff it does not have to have a county police.
Dear Jeff,
I’d like to borrow a lot of money from you, your children, your grandchildren and most of your family and friends that work and pay taxes (typically referred to as citizens). Oh, I will not need cash from you, just a promise from those listed above to pay me back in better times. I am simply going to obligate you to make future payments to cover this one time advance. With the money I get from obligating your future payments, I am going to pay some hard working teachers in PWC a little extra money next year, so they can keep up with inflation. No, they were not going to lose their jobs, but this money will stimulate our econonmy. I think this one time gift is only about 10 milliion dollars (just an estimate, who knows or even cares about the real number). No big deal anyway.
Here is the small print, you don’t need to read this stuff:
Stimulate economy = borrow from federal government. Pay those borrowed stimulus funds to union affiliated public employees, and obligate their funding sources to pay that one time gift many more times in future years. Payback clause: Pay back that money over a very long period of time in the form of tax transfers to pay outstanding federal debt. Pay PWC and VA state taxes sufficient to repeat this one time gift for the next twenty years. Kick out clause - pay only the federal portion of this future obligation by moving out of PWC and VA as soon as practicable.
In conclusion, I hope you skipped over the small print. Just like congress did when they failed to read the stimulus bill. I simply need you to agree with my plan to stimulate the econmy. Like the union that helps the hardworking teachers in PWC, I am sure you will see the wisdom of this plan and support my friends in the future for other such efforts.
Thanks,
Your friend
reg, I agree with your comments, but there are a couple more points worth consideration: with PWC govt employees receiving no salary increase, and many county residents either losing their jobs or taking pay cuts, this is NOT the year to be increasing teacher salaries…particularly when the basis is increased cost of living.
The school board insists that if they don’t raise salaries, teachers will leave PWC for a better paying position elsewhere. I’m sure that’s true, but in some cases that would be a benefit.
Just like their students, teachers don’t all have the same level of commitment and talent. I think it’s about time that we start incentivizing teacher’s continual improvement with performance based salary increases…”across-the-board” salary increases merely perpetuate mediocrity. Some teachers deserve a much more sizeable increase…and to pay for that increase, those “putting in their time” deserve nothing.
I was wrong for thinking a reasonable conversation could take place here (freedom- I don’t mean you, you actually provided a good argument for not giving the increase, although I disagree). Your point on some teachers deserving it and some not is true, but I tend to think there are more good teachers than not.
Reg- a sarcastic, condescending “letter” that presupposes that I don’t know how tax money and stimulus funds work does not move any conversation forward. But you probably don’t want that anyways.
(I never even said I was in favor of the stimulus money- just that I think putting it in education is a wise investment, and that the teacher union is not very influential or powerful in the first place).
Either way, I’m done here, I have better things to do with my time then argue with a bunch of Haymarket Rednecks.
My frustration got the better of me on that last comment (and made me hypocritical of my whole point). I’m sorry and regret saying that.
Some of you have been so conned into believing a “union” does ANYTHING in Virginia. The union is the place to get liability insurance and discounts on your cell phone service in Va.
I think some of you might be reading about unions in New York and PA and CA and think of this as a union. It is. But that is NOT the union in Va. In PWC teachers have a 1 page contract that says you are hired to do this job at this pay. We may have to change your job or let you go. Wow, that’s some scary union contract. The power!
Teachers in PWC know better than to say anything about their salaries - complaints get you canned in Va. It’s exactly why you don’t hear teachers saying anything negative about Math Investigations. If there WAS a union with all this power you claim they have, we wouldn’t have expanded MI into 5th grade. Many teachers HATE MI but they know if they say anything there will be retaliation and they will have NO recourse because there is no union to have their backs.
Please, don’t misunderstand my above comments - I DO NOT want a union. But don’t be a mindless sheep and believe that the “union” has even a teaspoon of power in Va just because some conservative guru told you it’s so.

end was decided when Charlie (good ole boy) Dean cried that the sheriff’s department was doing too much law enforcement and getting too many grants (that the CPD) should be getting.”
—You REALLY think that’s what the driving force was behind former Sheriff Stoffregan being booted from office? If I were you, I would read the post of “FormerCOMemployee” who had very insightful responses (10 Jul 2009 at 12:05 pm) and (10 Jul 2009 at 7:36 pm). Read them over and over again…you might learn something.
and…..”Anonymous said on 10 Jul 2009 at 3:04 pm…..
our Sheriff is richest, lazy, and cold?”
– Going against my better judgement to respond to something that doesn’t deserve a response, but you clearly have either never met the man or you are just one of those sad losers who are jealous with anyone that has respect and success.
Do you REALLY think anyone who has a nice car and a large house in a gated community is wealthy (I’m guessing you may have missed the news of the economy over the last year or so). Not that it’s any of your concern, but in the case of our Sheriff, it iis the result of someone who has worked VERY hard for over 30 years in the same field of work…building up to a substantial salary the last few of those years, living modestly in a home for many years and building equity, selling the home at the peak of the market, buying in a formerly trouble dsubdivision (pre-construction) in an area that was poised to take off in the near future, and then making all the right financial moves BEFORE the mortgage/credit crises hits.
I won’t even go into addressing your bizarre personal attacks…..you don’t KNOW the man. It reminds me of some of the people weeping in front of the gates of Neverland Ranch screaming they “lost their best friend.” You sir, live in the same sort of fantasy world when you say you know all these persoanl details of a person of whom you have ZERO firsthand knowledge….because if you did, you wouldn’t say such outlandish things.
Jeff - Sorry, to upset. Absolutely, education is a wise investment, however it should be decided locally and funded by our standard local / state funding formulas; my main point.
anon - The problem is not the teachers or their unions. The problem I am highlighting is the NON Stimulus aspect of this crazy spending on the federal level, and it’s lasting impact on the local / state level.
There were no planned cutbacks of teachers in PWC. Instead of creating new jobs in PWC by building roads or upgrading schools (examples) which you can make the case are stimulative, we simply pay more to already employed?
This specific federal spending creates a commitment to increased future taxes on our state and local levels. And in this case, we are not even adding new jobs.
Note: I support public education, and I know and like teachers. Fact: the VA versions of the education unions (NEA, AFT) do take union dues from all members AND they consistently encourage their members to support democratic party in local, state, and federal elections.
And for clarification, PWC was the only one of the three local school systems to get pay raises this year. Both MCPS and MPCS did without.
Of course they do, reg….(support dem party)….that’s where their “bread’s buttered.”
We need an entirely new school board; even the conservative ones have caved in…:(
Gnarly, are you in a coma?
Anonymous, your comment shows how much you know about the PWC Sheriff. the PWC sheriff DOES NOT run the Jail. It is done by a regional jail board who hires all the employees. The sheriff does sit on the board but he is only one of many board members. I could be wrong, but i do not think the sheriff collects taxes in PWC. Those duties belong to the Treasurer and/or the Commisioner of the Revenue. You are correct the County does not have to have a PD. But you must have you head so far stuck up you a** you can’t read. The fact is the County does because the Citizens ELECTED to have one and put ALL law enforcement responsibilties on them. Your examples seem to come from the days of many many years ago unless I am mistaken. I can tell you for a fact, the sheriff DOES NOT sell property or collect taxes in the Cities. I can’t 100% say for sure in the county but it does not sound familiar with any duties of the sheriff I have ever heard in PWC.
F-COM, don’t waste your effort….:(
freedom, thank you, you are right, another former Stoffregan badge holder who probably donated many of his hard earned $$ to the former Sheriff.
FormerCOMemployee, get a cule he said that because I’m talking apples and your talking oranges. I’m am talking about the authority the code of Virginia gives to the sheriffs and your talking about how little the sheriff of PWC does. Of course Glendell is going to do the very minimum.
“There were no planned cutbacks of teachers in PWC.”
This is an outright LIE.
Anonymous, against my better judgement, HE IS DOING WHAT HE IS MANDATED TO DO BY LAW. He does not collect taxes, he does not sell private property because he is not mandated to do so, he is not the chief law enforcement officer and has NO AUTHORITY on crime scenes and he DOES NOT RUN THE JAIL. Wake the F up dumba$$. The program he runs that Lexie Glover was apart of is actually additional to his mandated duties. He is not required to run that program.
I want to apologize to anyone I offended for my last comment, should have listened to my better judgement and not responded to someone who has no clue. Anonymous, I personally apologize to you for the rude and insensitive remarks, but you are still 100% incorrect and out of touch with reality.
It’s getting interesting up in here!
anon - were you going to be cut? Seriously, if the stimulus funds were used to keep those who were to be destaffed on the job. That would have been job creating / job saving. But to give a COLA to the entire county teaching force. . . that is a HUGE expense. Please point out the details of planned massive teacher cuts in the 2009 / 2010 school year.
to reg -
Me, no. I don’t teach. But my son’s school will have fewer teachers next school year, even though they are projecting MORE students. The student/teacher ratio there is going up. They ended up not having to let any teachers go because several left the school system. There were 4 teachers who were going to lose their jobs. In the end, they didn’t because 4 teachers left for other school systems. The school also lost several nonteaching positions because it’s not in the budget. Two of these people do NOT have positions at another school yet because there are no openings. One of them had been at the school for 5 years.
Was the raise the best use of funds? Maybe not. But please don’t lie and say that no one was going to lose their job.
Where do you get YOUR facts? The FACT is, it’s your opinion and nothing more.
anon - thanks for setting the record straight. It sounds like PWC school management made some hard choices. Don’t you think those unfunded positions should have been reinstated, instead of giving all of the teachers a pay raise? That would have created or saved a job. Higher student teacher ratios are the new reality. But in the end there was not a planned county wide massive lay off of teachers, it would have made the news. There were the typical adjustments made in all schools, each year when funding is tight. I agree that we don’t want to lose our teachers, but this stimulus for COLA went too far. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it, no lie.
FormerCOMemployee, I thought you knew more than what you do so I will help you. If someone owes you $20K and you go to court and get judgement for that amount how do you collect the money? 1. If you know where the person works and where they bank, you can garnish their wages and bank accounts. 2. You can have the sheriff (yes, even in PWC) levy their personal property ( boats, TV’s, jewlery, gamestations ect.) and sell it to satisify the debt.
Is “Anonymous said on 12 Jul 2009 at 12:25 pm” the same who is “Anonymous said on 12 Jul 2009 at 10:30 pm?”
All these “Anonymous” posters should at least pick an alias/screen name so we know which one is which…or if it’s the same person. If you want to be in on a running debate it is the proper thing to do on a blog….pick a name and STICK with it.
As far as I know anonymous 10:30 pm is correct..I looked into what one can do to collect a judgment and having a “sheriff’s sale” is one option…as long as the person who owes the judgment actually has anything worth selling.
http://www.salemva.gov/depts/sheriff/levy_handbook.html
The sheriff holds a lot of power that very few people know about and they can do alot of good in the community if they choose to use it.
So, Anonymous, isn’t it obvious to everyone (except Gnarly and Former County
Employee) that our present do-nothing sheriff has chosen NOT to do any good
for our community? I have read with interest some writings of elderly folks who
have expressed their sadness that bus service has been cut off recently which
has caused considerable hardship for some of our elderly who can no longer get
to the Senior Center for a daily hot lunch and being able to have a bit of a social
life. Some of these people live alone on very limited incomes and have no means
of transportation now that their bus service has been halted.
The $200,000. per year required to keep this bus service going could easily have
been funded had the sheriff put a stop to his deputies using department cars for
their personal use, such as commuting from their homes, as far away in some cases
as Stafford and Spotsylvania. The deputies aren’t even required to pay for the
gas!!
If this present sheriff is so great, according to a few of the bloggers here, there
are a lot of things he could be doing to help the community but I don’t see him
doing much of anything. He’s getting as fat as most of his deputies. Fat and lazy!
Fran,
These silly attacks against our good Sheriff would be much easier to take if somebody had one factual bit of evidence to back up their claims.
What does a free bus to a free lunch have anything to do with the Sheriff? If he cut his budget by $200k, do you REALLY think it would have been used to run buses. The county budget doesn’t work like that. My bet is, it would have disappeared into the County bureaucracy somewhere, but that is a completely different debate.
What I’d really like to know, Fran, on what SPECIFICS do you base the statement “our present do-nothing sheriff has chosen NOT to do any good
for our community?” What are your concrete reasons for saying something like this?
Anything? …or are you just joining the ranks of these old Stoffregan hacks that can’t get over the fact their guy was thrown from office for selling badges for campaign cash….and they have nothing to say against our current Sheriff other than unsubstantiated, personal swipes.
Gnarly, I think you and FormerCOMemployee are the real Stoffregen supporters, you can’t seem to get him out of your mind. They rest of us just want a sheriff that works, doesn’t cut services to the community then adds 15 employees to his staff, and doesn’t add 2.7 million to the budget then have his cronies talk about what a good job he is doing.
For all the Sheriff’s office does in this County, it should be outsourced to a rent-a-cop company.
Advocator, I will be the first to admit Sheriff Glendell Hill has faild the people and the community. Next election we need to elect a sheriff that will give their commitment to the citizens of Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park to perform all the sworn duties of the office of Sheriff. that will provide the service and representation that citizens deserve and expect. And will bring dignity back to the Sheriff’s Office.
Advocator, I fully agree with you.
Yes, Anonymous, and a sheriff who will not be under the thumb of Chief Deane.
We need to rid ourselves of a lap dog for Charlie Deane.
Gnarly, what’s up with you? Trying to suck up to Hill in order to hang on to your
cushy job?
“We need to rid ourselves of a lap dog for Charlie Deane.”
I like that. What a very true statement.

On July 11, which this year was Saturday, it was the 205 anniversary of the Hamilton-Burr duel held in NJ. - across the Hudson River from Manhattan, NY.
Burr’s shot hit Hamilton in the stomach, right side I think. He died the next day at 2 PM. Hamilton discharged his weapon with the shot going over Burr’s head.
I believe there is some controversy over who fired the first shot.
Again..I hesitate to respond to folks who just take personal swipes instead of dealing in FACTS, but I’m self-employed…have been for years…..and I DON’T ride free buses to take me to FREE meals (thank you for your concern for my job Fran). If you knew me, you would know I’d NEVER take such a job even if offered. I’m just a very concerned native of Prince William County (born and raised) who understand how the Sheriff’s office should work.
I did, however, work very hard for Glen’s campaigns because of what I saw in the former Sheriff’s office….things that I felt were criminal in nature. It turned my stomach so badly I came back home in 2003 just to work to help Glen get elected. Everyone here who is carping and whining from the sidelines had their chance in the last elections (in both the Primary and General) but failed miserably.
In the meantime, go figure out how you go about finding a qualified candidate who can lay the groundwork to run for Sheriff…..figure out how to raise $250k-$400k in political contributions…learn some people skills, marketing and PR, and then be prepared to give up your free time 7 days a week for months, get in shape since you’ll need to knock on doors all over the county in the hot sun all summer……and then….and ONLY THEN….you may just get your wish and have a person to your liking in the Sheriff’s office. This is exactly what it will take to win the Sheriff’s office next election.
But…I’m pretty sure it will just be easier for you to sit on the sidelines and complain about things you don’t fully understand….it’s what professional whiners do.

Not possible. It’s an open thread!
On July 11, which this year was Saturday, it was the 205 anniversary of the Hamilton-Burr duel held in NJ. - across the Hudson River from Manhattan, NY.[…]
Cool. Dueling is understated. I wonder if we can get the Bladensburg Dueling Grounds opened back up. Congress could thin itself out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bladensburg_dueling_grounds
(dripping sarcasm)
Gnarly, too bad Glendell does not share the same work desire you do. Instead he just wants to spend our money, have a big staff and give us as you heard from several people, very little in return. Maybe you can get Glendell off his ass and do something for the people.
Gnarly, I find you a little amusing, but that’s okay. Be assured that I do not care
one iota about your background, so don’t bother. Further, I have no intention to
go door to door in support of any political candidate. Bully for you in your efforts
to have Hill elected. This indicates to me and others that you are in the tank so
I’m wondering what was in it for you? Certainly, Hill does not have the ability to
devote full time campaigning (ergo, it was left up to you) and as for marketing and
PR skills, the poor guy can barely put a sentence together and his Ebonics is
laughable, so don’t even go there.
Good for you that you have no need for free bus service to go and get a free lunch,
but there are many, many elderly people in this community who DO have needs and
your lack of empathy for those in need is astounding. With your kind of qualifications,
perhaps YOU should make a run for the office of sheriff. Hill will campaign for you,
for sure.
Fran Kendrick, your last post showed what a racist bigot you are. I don’t use the term lightly since my grandaughter is of mixed race. But That comment was even worse than my earlier one. You should be ashamned of yourself and obviously you have never met the man. In addition, no one on here has stated what the sheriff is supposed to be doing he isn’t. the closest thing anyone has mentioned is the fact the sheriff can collect debts to settle civil cases. But what the good anonymous poster failed to mention is weather or not the sheriff is using this ability. Because it would seem to me it would be up to the person who won the civil case to ask the sheriff to assist. Unless someone on here can produce one person who has asked the sheriff for that assistance and was denied, pretty much a moot point. Again, you should be ashamed of yourself and I feel for your children because you are probably teaching them the same racist attitude. Anyone who contributes to a campaign is not necessarily getting anything in return other that the satisfaction of being part of the process. So Fran, why don’t you remain pregnant and barefoot and go take care of your man.
Anonymous, you again have failed to state what you want Sheriff Hill to do in addition to the mandated duties he is performing. You keep stating get the Sheriff off his ass, but the good Sheriff has remained in one field for many years and has hired good people to run the show. No one person make an organization work. the Sheriff has earned a little down time as long as he keeps good people around him performing the mandated duties as required by law. If you feel he isn’t performing his required State mandated duties then I suppose there is a way to file a complaint.
FormerCOMemployee, you need to take your medication and go back to bed.
Anonymous, Kiss my a$$. the comment was racist and I will call one out when I see it. I the shoe fits wear it. I am fine with people who can debate their differences. And on occasion comments are made that should not be made such as my earlier one which I apologized for. But there is no place for comments like were used in fran’s post. I could be totally wrong, but I am willing to bet that even the Hill haters didn’t like that comment. Especially if you ever had evena two minute conversation with the man you would know he is well spoken. So again, kiss my a$$ or get my email from greg and feel free to email me personally.
“So Fran, why don’t you remain pregnant and barefoot and go take care of your man.”
FormerCOMemployee, you are a sexist. Take your medication and go back to bed.
anonymous, you’re too stupid to see i was being facious.
Well, well…..Fran and her band of Anonymous nobodies (or wannabees) have finally been smoked out.
Thanks for showing all who read this blog what was behind all this carping and whining and attacking. You all are RACISTS.
There was something not logical about your arguments this entire time….now the ugly truth comes out.
I’m not looking at this thread again…..you all make me sick to my stomach.
“Facetious”.
That’s just fine, Gnarly…who really gives a rat’s ass what you think, anyhow?
Hahahaha Fran What Gnarly thinks is not what you should worry about. The sad thing is you just showed everyone on here and what will now be in google searches under your name, what a mixed up, mean old racist you are.
Haha too funny.
Thank you Johnson, I was not able to use my dictionary at that time and being as angry as I was, well mistakes happen. I just really thought things had changed in our great country, then people like Fran Kendrick show up and show racism is alive and well!
As you read this thread there are several reasons for replacing Sheriff Hill. Our sheriff lacks leadership skills, he has a bigger staff but doesn’t know how to use them wisely, he provides less service to the county but cost the taxpayer $2.7 million more a year, the Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Hill does so little it is not worth talking about, Sheriff Hill is Chief Deane’s puppet, he doesn’t care about the community he just wants a check. It is sad that Sheriff Hill’s handful of supporter can only come up with it is the color of his skin is the reason some people would like to see him replaced
Grayson, where on this blog up until the racist comment by Fran did anyone make that accusation? In fact the main accusation is the people on this blog have wanted him replaced because they are former Stoffregan supporters. Try again, Hill supporters support him because he is honorable and if you want another sheriff, then get a candidate that isn’t a crook and run against him. If your candidate is better than Hill i would even vote for him. the problem is all the Hill haters have is alot of outlandish accusations and have yet to put any reasons why Hill is so bad, except you Grayson, in your last post, which in my eye makes you a better person then Fran or anonymous. good people can disagree, all I can say is put up a real candidate and let them fight it out and the better man will win. But putting up a man that sold badges, FACT, alienated the Chief of Police, FACT, asked for more deputies for courtroom security when his men were out performing duties they were not mandated to do, fact, will not ever win an election against Sheriff Hill. But again, Grayson, thank you for at least putting up a very legitimate concerns with Hill, unlike other people on here. However, I am not quite sure about the leadership skills issue you have. Could you please explain?
Thank you Grayson, at last someone with an education that understands what they read.
I wish that all the liberals who are wanting higher taxes would just donate the money that would be spent on taxes to charity clinics and hospitals for the poor. Oh wait, liberals don’t actually want to pay taxes, they want other people to pay taxes.
I greatly fear for our nation. When the majority of people aren’t paying taxes, why not just pass taxes for other people to pay. It’s scary.
yes…and Grayson has such a mastery of the English language …I bet he’s a good dancer too.
