Will Doug Wilder Endorse Bob McDonnell Today?
By Greg L | 20 July 2009 | Virginia Politics | 9 Comments
The Bob McDonnell campaign has scheduled a press conference in Richmond to announce an endorsement today at 3:00PM, something which is rather unusual as endorsements rarely ever get this kind of treatment. Plenty of folks are wondering what this could be about, and why the rather mundane announcement of an endorsement would merit this kind of attention. Because it’s happening in Richmond, and it’s got to be something pretty dramatic, about the only alternative I could come up with that might fit the circumstances is if former Governor Douglas Wilder announced he was supporting Bob.
Now wouldn’t that be interesting.
UPDATE: No, it’s a founder of Black Entertainment Television, Sheila Johnson. Not quite as earth-shaking, but pretty dramatic nonetheless.

NRA maybe?
The NRA is in Fairfax, and that endorsement wouldn’t merit a press conference. That endorsement is hardly unexpected.
Don’t forget, the NRA endorsed Deeds over McDonnell in 2005, so it would be a major turnaround.
It would be a coup…..NRA coming back home to McDonnell this time around.
Sheila Crump Johnson Endorses Bob McDonnell for Governor

Actually, this is bigger than the NRA. Anyone who votes based on 2nd Ammendment issues, knows that Deeds and McDonnell are both solid on the issue. However, this endorsement will play heavy in the urban areas, and siphon off some votes that would otherwise go to the guy with a “D” next to his name. Also, it will play heavy with the black business community, as Johnson is very well respected there.
I didn’t see that one coming. The blue blogs are crying foul. One Lefty Blog ran a post saying that the Dems have to be careful not to totally alienate the rich.
Perhaps a “greed” too many?
Ms. Johnson has been very generous with her money towards Dems. Perhaps by giving a bit to the Republicans, she can still come out ahead.
Good pickup for Bob.
And there’s still the “Wild”er card.
Boy this will screw up the media. They always are so quick to make hay out of Repubs who cross over to support Dems and how it is sign of how the GOP is in disarray. I don’t expect the media will treat this the same.
No.
