Will Connolly Duck Town Hall Meetings?

By Greg L | 4 August 2009 | Gerry Connolly, Fairfax County, US Congress, Prince William County | 32 Comments

Now that Gerry Connolly is enjoying the August recess from Congress, how many days will pass before he announces even one town hall meeting in his district to hear input from constituents on the health care proposal being considered?  He’s on record of being in favor of the proposal, so is he going to duck constituents for the entire recess?  Or will he be courageous enough to allow constituents to express their views on this proposal?  This should be interesting.

Given Connolly’s wonderful record so far on constituent service, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he schedules a town hall meeting after he has a chance to cast his vote in favor of this atrocity.

To be fair, Frank Wolf hasn’t scheduled a town hall meeting either, but it’s pretty clear he doesn’t intend to vote in favor of this so it seems to me he’s already heard from his constituents and gotten the message.  A town hall meeting on this would be helpful nonetheless, as it would be a great opportunity for Congressman Wolf to discuss the reasons why he won’t support this, and his recent outstanding efforts to push the Obama administration to explain why they dropped a case against the New Black Panther Party after they interfered with voters going to the polls in Philadelphia last election.

A town hall meeting with Frank Wolf would provide a really interesting contrast with Gerry Connolly, and show voters in the 11th Congressional District just how bad their representation really is.

I just hung up from talking to the Senator Warner’s office regarding the health bill. It is an outrage these anti-Americans feel the people who have expressed negative opinions on the health bill are only pawns of the insurance company. Does the Anti-American Democrat party have such a low opinion of the Citizens of this Nation to think and to publicly say that? Do they think we are not able to come to our own conclusions?

Funny how any protest against obama is met with disbelieve from these people who would rather law about their intent then be honest about how they want to change America from a Republic into a Socialized 3rd World cesspool.

fat boy gerry, who needs to attend driving school is typical of an out of touch elitist. Oh sure, he’ll talk until blue in the face about issues he wants but as soon as he is asked about an issue he can’t fudge his way through, he’s like a clam.

It is time to hound these anti-American bastards day in day out until they get the message they are accountable to us. We will take our Nation back from those that seek to destroy it.

Now that being said, where and when is the next protest against these bastards?

I spent quite a bit of time today trying to call Warner/Webb about
my opposition to the Sotomayer nomination and health care.
For most of the time, I received a recording saying that “All
circuits are busy, please call back later”. That tells me something.

Finally, I was able to get through, but from what I’m seeing on the
news tonite, the Dems are not only delusional, but in denial.

Hopefully, Gerry’s only going to be a one-term Rep. If he thinks
that Federal Employees/Retirees are going along this this
    Marxist nonsense, he’s dead wrong.

I don’t think Jerry Connolly is an American. he doesn’t look like one to me. He kind of looks like he’s from one of those funny countries with the names no red blooded American can pronounce.

I say the hell with health care. if you die early that means you get to spend more time with the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am sincerely waiting for Rep. Connoly’s townhall meeting(s). I am not an insurace lobbyist, but when I was in my 30’s I had insurance via an HMO (you know the ones that the elitist libs joked about on TV), and whether or not you paid for all of a bill, none of it, or all of it was in the detials of your contracts. Senators want you to believe that they will do right by us and not to frett over the little stuff. But we need to frett!

Nope, he won’t have a town meeting….don’t ya know, the leftists think that all the protest is a mirage, funded by the insurance companies. They believe that the real Americans WANT our health care system wrecked by the power hungry politicians and bureaucrats!

How delusional is THAT??? They’ll see what a “mirage” is….but unfortunately not soon enough.

Actually Connolly was supposed to have had one in his Woodbridge office on 25 July. I stumbled across the announcemen in the Post PWC insert.

But it would be interesting to know what he has coming up.

    Freedom,

So true. They are mocking Americans who take the time to show up and use their 1st Amendment rights. Funny, how I never once heard during the Bush Presidency the left was concerned with the organized illegal aliens protests and the anti-war protests. Yet, now that they are the subject of protests, they want to discredit them by blaming the insurance companies.

This is pure arrogance and a very deep rooted hatred for anyone who dare speak against them.

Why don’t we start calling Connolly’s office requesting an opportunity to speak with him in a public forum. If they get enough calls, they will at least get the message that the pressure is on.

I actually received an email from him/his office early this morning stating he had a phone Town Hall meeting a few weeks ago (which I do not recall, nor have I found, any email invite for this). I love how he blabs on about the GDP and the profits of the insurance industry but omits the info that we have some of the best care in the world (even those who hit the ER and never pay get excellent care), and that the insurance industry employs an obscene amount of people.

    “Dear Neighbor,

Just three weeks ago, I hosted a telephone town hall meeting to discuss health care reform. The purpose of that meeting was to hear your thoughts and concerns with respect to health care reform — and the response was overwhelming.

This is what you had to say:

    • We need health care reform now because the cost of inaction is too high. Premiums have doubled over the last nine years and we currently spend 18% of our gross domestic product (GDP) on health care. If we do nothing, premiums will continue to rise and by 2040 we will be spending a staggering 34% of GDP.

    • Health care coverage must be made more affordable for everyone – families, businesses, and the government. Reform must be deficit neutral and can’t place an undue burden on families and small businesses already struggling under the weight of health care costs.

    • You must have the freedom to choose your own doctor and insurance plan. If you like the plan you have, you must be allowed to keep it. If you would like a new plan, you should have that option as well. Read the Prince William News and Messenger article on maintaining choice of doctors and insurance plans.

    • Every American should have access to quality care. Economists estimate that families who have health insurance pay an extra $1,000 each year in premiums to cover the cost of the uninsured. That’s wrong.

If you did not have an opportunity to join the telephone town hall or were unable to ask a question, please send an email now. I want to hear from you.

Congressman Connolly advocates responsible health care reform at a press conference on Capitol Hill.
We must work to develop a uniquely American solution to our health care challenge, a solution that is guided by what I have heard and will continue to hear from you. We need reform that lowers costs, guarantees a choice of doctors and plans, and ensures access to quality care for every American.

You have probably heard discussion regarding various proposals to pay for health care reform. One proposal is to impose a tax on employer-provided health benefits. I do not support legislation that includes such a provision. This tax would have a devastating impact on Northern Virginia residents, many of whom enjoy generous employer-provided health plans. Read the Prince William News and Messenger article on opposition to taxes on employer-provided benefits.

There have also been discussions about a surtax on wealthy taxpayers. The 11th District of Virginia is the wealthiest Congressional district in the nation, as measured by median household income. However, we are not a community of Beverly Hills millionaires, movie moguls, or Wall Street brokers. We have a significant percentage of two-income households and face one of the highest costs of living in the nation. That is why I am working to protect Northern Virginia families and small business from shouldering the burden of such a tax increase. Read a CBS News article and view CBS video on efforts to protect you from higher taxes.

Any discussion about new taxes should be a last resort after we have done everything possible to find cost savings in the health care system. For example, the top ten insurance companies have seen their profits increase by 428% over the last decade. Yet, those insurance companies have offered nothing by way of cost reductions. This simple step could save as much as $100 billion. The problem with our current health care system is not that we spend too little, but that we spend too much and don’t spend it wisely.

Make no mistake, we need health care reform. The costs of doing nothing are too much to bear. But we have to get it right and take into account your concerns and the concerns of others. If you haven’t already, please take the time to send an email to let me know what you think.

    Thank you,
    Gerry Connolly”

You can get an idea of what Connolly thinks…

“When you look at the fervor of some of these people who are all being whipped up by the right-wing talking heads on Fox, to me, you’re crossing a line,’ Connolly said. ‘They’re inciting people to riot with just total distortions of facts. They think we’re going to euthanize Grandma and the government is going to take over.”

Somewhere in this forlorn blather of fear and loathing, someone used the word “system” in connection with the word healthcare. There is a “system” in operating on a person with stage 4 lung cancer, with a triple bypass,so that when that person is dead 3 months after the operation, the so called, doctors have and extra 125,000K $ollars in their pockets. That is a “system” , it has nothing to do with healthcare .
The above person was not had not even reached a 50th b-day and would have died of cancer no matter what, but the doctor’s were able to harvest a 125,000 $ollar bypass.

When I was in the service that was called Screwed , Blued and Tattooed.

    TG,

And when you or a loved one is told by the Government your life is not worth the cost, you might think differently. I was not in the service, but I say that you were screwed too in that situation.

Why change a system that has worked very nicely, so nicely that people who have “free” health care come here for our health care system?

It is very clear obama and his fellow anti-American libs want to get us to a single pay system where the Government tells you when, where and if you can get care.

Do you think for one minute a system that adds 47 million people to the system, is not going to cost us an extra penny? Well, that is what obama is saying. Of course he also said unemployment would not rise above 8%, he said the “stimulus” package had to be passed or else. He said the John Deere, or was it Caterpillar would be able to hire people, when it fact they had to lay off even more people. Now, do you really trust him, when he says we will have a better system, with better care, and it will not cost us any additional money? Really, do you believe that?

Here’s my nickel’s worth of free advice: If you live in ConMan’s district, call every day ask when his town hall meeting will be held. Let them know the even the moron Moran in my hideous district is holding court (details below). It takes but a minute or two to do this. The numbers for the ConMan are: 703-256-3071 (Annandale office) and 703-670-4989 (Prince William office).

As for Moran’s town hall meeting:
Health Care Town Hall w/ Rep Moran & Howard Dean
    Tuesday, 25 August 2009
    7:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m.
    Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
    South Lakes High School, Auditorium
11400 South Lakes Dr. | Reston, Virginia
    PoC: Grassroots@AlexYRs.org

As many people as possible should attend, armed with questions coming from the actual text of the health care bill HR-3200 to demonstrate that WE have done Moran’s job and that is not fit to hold said job.

As for who should replace him, help me raise the cash, I’ll take him on - damn it.

    OK, let’s get busy.

Can anyone tell me how in the hell we managed to get Connoly as our representative. For years this tax and spend clown spent his way into the heart of every Fairfax special interest group. Fairfax Co. deserves the name, San Francisco of the East. I just hope that someone has the organization to de-elect this clown during the next election. Hopefully, during the next election, the “Firefighters for Connoly” machine will not be out in force since Connoly has not raised their salary during the preceding two years.

We can and should call Connelly’s office about a town-hall meeting. However, we can call “until the cows come home” but he won’t host such a meeting — he KNOWS what would happen and he doesn’t want to hear what his constituents want — it would tarnish him.

I think we should organize our own town-hall meeting…and in his fearful absence, put a “stuffed dummy” up front, with a sign on its chest that says “Rep G Connolly.” …and perhaps we could get Keith Fimian to moderate the meeting.

If anyone wants to see what we have to look forward to w/ government run health care, just take a look at VA hospitals. Have you ever met anyone happy with their care there? I promise you, they are not all Betheda Naval Hospitals or Walter Reed Mecical Centers. And this is how we treat America’s heroes.

Why wait for a town hall meeting? It’s obvious the coward is dodging anyone that disagrees with his opinion. The poor fool needs to realize who is working for who, here. I say why not pick a day and protest in front of his Prince William office….If there is enough support in this action……this could even be a daily action. And, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if that did happen, far many more are more upset by the Hill’s “pass and then read the bill” attitiude.

I’m hoping that Connelly is a one term rep. Wonder if SAIC will rehire him. Probably, and make him a VP because of his ‘connections’, and then he’ll make a ton of money. He was just a two bit project manager before he got into politics. The only problem I foresee, and the republicans don’t get it, is that they put in complete right wingers up for elections. Frank Wolf has been around a long time, he’s well loved by his constituents, and he’s honest with them (I know an oxymoron but there you have it). The other problem is the local media. They, like the big boys, are horrible liars and socialists and well. When are we going to be able to read truth in the media. Not any time soon.

I called Connolly’s office about the Health Care bill, and the aide I was talking to hung up on me while I was talking. I called back, thinking there was a problem with my cell phone and got to the same person. When he found out who I was he called me a nazi and hung up on me again. I sent an email complaining about this, and today I got a form letter back thanking me for my input on the Health Care issue, but not a word about what happened.

    howdy,

as someone who actually resembles bruce lee (i.e. i’m asian in ethnicity, american in nationality), thought i’d put in a penny or two. reading most of this blog, seems like it’s pretty much a “write if you agree” site. so i hope you won’t mind an alternative opinion and an invitation to discussion and dialogue.

i have health care. my company puts in a nice sum to make sure i’m well taken care of. even so, a year ago, i got hit by something called cluster migraines. trust me, you don’t want this in your life. i found myself trying to drive to the emergency room, head ready to burst, stomach ready to vomit. i made it with only one trip to throw up in someone’s driveway (sorry if it was yours! tried my best to clean up afterwards).

that emergency room visit cost me (after insurance covered some 80% ) near $3,000 out of pocket. yep, i’m fully insured with a decent plan. you bet i’m going to think twice before i rush to the emergency room next time.

i don’t know about you, but i’m pretty sure our health care system is broke. and it’s only getting worse. SO…instead of calling folks on the hill communists or socialists or whatever, why don’t we offer some alternative plans?

i agree with the notion that health care is a right, not a privilege. and over 80% of americans agree with me. if health care is a right, then let’s talk about what (at minimum) that right ought to constitute. i DON’T want government to dictate who i can see or what tests i can or can’t take, but gosh darn it, it’s ALREADY BEING DICTATED BY MY HMO ANYWAYS! AND I SURE DON’T TRUST THEM!

so…why not send our senators and congressman some constructive ideas on how to CHANGE THE SYSTEM and STILL HONOR THE CONSTITUTION and our rights as americans? cause if i get another migraine, you, the tax payer, will be paying for my brains being cleaned off the bathroom walls - cuz i’m not going to emergency to get deeper into debt.

the system is broken - we all know it. let’s try and offer some positive suggestions.

Bruce, are you out of your mind? You are a communist. You, nor I, have any ‘right’ to consume a service, and expensive manufactured products from any person unless they willingly give it to us for free, or unless we choose to spend our money on what they have to offer. That includes healthcare. I consider you to be violating my freedom of religion by using the government to push yours upon me. You believe that you, the government, and doctors can pretend to be a pseudo-God. You don’t understand that nature can be cruel, and that when you are born into the world, there are no guarantees from natural evil - be it weather cataclysms, or your rare condition that cost you money to fix.

Having access to other human beings who choose to charge you money to heal you is not a right. Insurance != Healthcare. Medicaid & Medicare != Healthcare. If you are not able to pay for your health services, someone else will be working to do so if you force them to through the government or an unfair insurance environment that does not adequately manage ‘moral hazard’ and do good risk management. You are creating indentured servants in the creation of your utopian vision. This universe is not constructed to fit within your Disney movie. The Democrat plan will create the chaos that exists in other Countries with nationalized healthcare because it starts with a false premise - that value can create itself out of thin air and no one pays for services and goods entitled by law. When taxes are passed on the rich, they will increase prices, and every paying customer will be forced to labor to pay for those who do not, will not, and choose other things like cell phone plans, xboxes, houses they can’t afford, netflix subscriptions, cable tv, internet connections in their home instead of using the libraries we pay for anyway, makeup, designer jeans, video games, booze, pot, and all sorts of other modern luxuries that they blow their money on instead of being responsible citizens who choose to pay for things like healthcare.

Your vision is hostile, enslaving, envious, greedy, anti-freedom, anti-self reliance, and anti-American. Maybe you are not a Marxist, but more like Gramschi communist. When you become a real American, you will understand that American reform to healthcare begins with regulation of insurance competition, helping to divorce employers from healthcare, increase of risk management equity and mitigation of moral hazard implications, tort reform that institutes English Law rules, and removal of government jobs to push money and papers around completely except for that which is required to regulate and enforce rules that help the aforementioned goals to inspire maximum free market effectiveness.

I will dig my own grave before i will take a dime from the government and let them have my dignity and freedom. Everyone is going to die. Everyone is going to suffer. At least I will do so without subserviance to the worst charity ever invented - governments that pretend that bureaucrats like Connolly care and are capable of real charity.

You are not entitled to shit, asshole. Now pick up a shovel and act like an American. Work a second job to get that money back. Go take your chances at a casino if you’re the risky type. Whatever you do, take responsibility for yourself, and don’t you dare look at your neighbors with envy and expectation again.
