When my daughter returns to elementary school on September 8th, she may be graced with a special address from “Dear Leader” Obama that will come complete with a K-6 lesson plan that will ask her such things as ”What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?” and “Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?” Should Prince William County Schools decide to participate in this outrageous political mass-indoctrination of our children, I can absolutely envision parents providing their children a rather different educational experience by protesting alongside them in front of the schools.
The lesson plan provided by the U.S. Department of Education underscores the quite obvious political nature of this address. Here are the activities our government is urging teachers to engage in after “Dear Leader’s” speech:
Extension of the Speech: Teachers can extend learning by having students
- Create posters of their goals. Posters could be formatted in quadrants or puzzle pieces or trails marked with the labels: personal, academic, community, country. Each area could be labeled with three steps for achieving goals in those areas. It might make sense to focus on personal and academic so community and country goals come more readily.
- Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.
- Write goals on colored index cards or precut designs to post around the classroom.
- Interview and share about their goals with one another to create a supportive community.
- Participate in School wide incentive programs or contests for students who achieve their goals.
- Write about their goals in a variety of genres, i.e. poems, songs, personal essays.
- Create artistic projects based on the themes of their goals.
- Graph student progress toward goals.
I personally love the part about making students accountable to achieving the national goals of “Dear Leader.” It would surprise me little that this completely out of touch and tone-deaf socialist would be asking children to send emails to flag@whitehouse.gov if their parents and family members don’t support his policies and establishes a quota of reports that each elementary student would be expected to fulfill.
This is classic autocracy, along the very lines of Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot who both spent a lot of time trying to ‘educate’ young children in order to build “the new Soviet Man” or whatever the local equivalent might be. Force-feed propaganda to the children, and by the time they have this garbage rammed down their throats for a decade or so, they’ll make a great proletariat eager to sing the approved songs lionizing the murderous thugs that have been rotting their brains and turned them into serfs.

Most of the outline you’ve posted makes a lot of sense. Setting goals and trying to improve yourself and your surroundings and putting those goals down on paper makes for thoughtfulness and consideration for both yourself and your peers.
Sharing one’s goals with others is good.
I don’t like the contests for achievement. Contests are hardly ever fair IMO.

Tillie, just why would Barack Obama be setting goals for elementary schoolchildren instead of teachers? Why would an address by “Dear Leader” ever be considered an appropriate educational exercise on the first day of school? The contents of the lesson plan are clearly intended to draw elementary schoolchildren into the perpetual campaign of the annointed one, and the parallels of this are striking.
Since you seem to have missed what that “poem” actually is, it is the lauditory song for Kim Il-Sung, sung by schoolchildren in North Korea on the first, and every day of school. I replaced the North Korean dictator’s name with our own version of “Dear Leader” hoping that folks that actually paid attention in Social Studies might recognize what this is.
Apparently I overestimated the understanding of some readers, who didn’t “get it.”
I hope that parents in Prince William will demand that our county forego this propaganda stunt by our 24-7 TV personality President. Stay out of my kid’s classroom, Obama!!! You’re already 10 feet deep in my wallet. Isn’t that enough already!

One thing in the lesson plan that really sticks out:
“Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.”
I assume the President’s speech is calling for students to become involved in their communities, serve their country, become good citizens, etc. . . . all good things of course. But notice that the objective of the exercise is to have children decide what they can do to “help the president” . . . not help their country, their community, neighbors, etc. . . . but “the president” . . . and to be accountable for helping “the president”. Since when is it more important to help the president, and be accountable for it, than helping your country or community?!?
And if you think I’m being cynical answer this honestly: Would the US Dept. of Education would have put this out if George Bush was president or if John McCain had been elected instead of Barack Obama? Be honest now
There is nothing wrong with children having goals, looking ahead in life to plan a smart academic route so they will not be limited in the number of college choices, etc. However, why the President feels he has to do this is beyond me. It really does mirror what happens in socialist, communist, and dictatorship led Nations.
Once again I’m reminded why we send our child to private school.

I’m curious to know what will be in his speech to the children. Perhaps he will ask them to help him celebrate Ramadan and the great religion Islam. Help him count the number of suicide bombings that occurred over their summer vacation or the number of graduates from the Islamic schools in America who have gone to get their jihad on back in the O.H. Many schools, thanks to the libs that run them, have banned “tag” dodge ball, etc, and other playground games because they fear kids being picked on while those games are played. Now, kids just pretty much stand around on the playground without being able to run around. Of course that is not the only reason why we have overweight kids, but it’s a factor.

7) Citizen of Manassas - it is tragic that tag, dodge ball, et all have been banned by some many schools, not to mention that so many schools also do not keep score in gym class games or other school related “competitions.” The term has become an oxymoron. Students are weak because they do not know how to compete on any level and teachers are too afraid to damage the little angels self-esteem. Their self-esteem will be dealt quite a blow when they get out of school and find themselves in the real world not being able to compete for a job and wondering why no one is holding their hand.

WH withdraws call for students to ‘help’ Obama
President Obama’s plan to inspire the nation’s schoolchildren with a video address next week erupted into controversy Wednesday, forcing the White House to pull out its eraser and rewrite a government recommendation that teachers nationwide assign students a paper on how to “help the president.”
Presidential aides acknowledged the White House helped the U.S. Education Department craft the proposal, which immediately was met by fierce criticism from Republicans and conservative organizations who accused Mr. Obama of trying to politicize the education system.
White House aides said the language was an honest misunderstanding in what was supposed to be a inspirational, pro-education message to America’s youths.
Among the activities the government initially suggested for prekindergarten to sixth-grade students: that they ” write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.”
Another task recommended for students immediately after listening to the speech: to engage in a discussion about what “the president wants us to do.”
The novel curriculum plan brought sharp criticism from conservatives, including some who complained that classrooms were being used to spread political propaganda.
In response, the White House last night confirmed they were revising the lesson plan that was distributed last week by the U.S. Department of Education.
“We’re clarifying that language,” White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said.
By Wednesday evening, the sentence asking children to think about how they can “help the president” had been replaced.

Ted, It’s not that we are against the President addressing our kid’s, it’s the lesson plans that go along with it and that it was all about helping Obama, not yourself or your country.

You know very well that the reason the games you mention have been banned is because schools are scared stiff that a kid will get hurt and the school will be sued by the parents.
It’s a lousy thing to do. Kids can’t do anything that might cause them to get a scraped knee or a sprained thumb. I’m not talking about sports teams. I don’t know WHAT kids are allowed to do today.
I for one like laser tag. The PE programs here in Fauquier seem to work well for my kids. They are active, in shape, and have a good concept of what being healthy means. I do think the present leader’s (term leader used very loosely) time could be much better spent on something he knows something about, whatever that is… Lead by example, instead of attempting to direct my kids, that is what I do, I am in charge here, the PARENT. Perhaps he should speak on parents that do not accept the parental role of responcibility if he must be flapping his gums everyday. Kids that have issues now, have them largely because they do not have direction and are not focused on what they are supposed to be doing to succed in life. I could go pn for days here.
Kids in Fauquier are supposed to see the video I think, but will not participate. Is watching him participating? Sorry about the earlier spelling error, I did go to work today and was productive, not looking for some federal handout.

And how many of them distrubuted a lesson plan in advance that would help teachers ask students ‘how they could help the president’ yet lacked a single lesson plan item on the children’s own goals, on their academic achievement, or anything actually related to them. Obama’s lesson plan for 7-12th graders asked questions about what the three most important words in Obama’s speech were, and to rank them. What does that have to do with students doing better in schools? Nothing.
I’ve no beef with the occasional standard inspirational speech given to children. What I really get torqued about here is that the lesson plans made it pretty clear the purpose of this speech was to enroll these children in advocating Obama’s policies and further Obama’s cult of personality. It was a ridiculous overreach, even for the Obamination.

No, that is not the reason at all. The reason is because libs want to protect the “self esteem” of students. They also do not want winners or losers, because it will scare students for life. It’s the same reason why many youth sports leagues do not keep score of games, because they do not want to hurt the feelings of the kids who loose the game.

The difference here is that unlike Bush and Reagan, obama wants the Federal Government to control every aspect of our lives. They also did not propose to have a civilian security force like obama has, and of course who will fill that need? Children, who have been told at an early age to look toward the Federal Government for their every need.

I appreciate your response.
Unfortunately, “… encouraged to make reasonable accommodations…” is not enough.
This means that a teacher can show the speech and choose to ignore your encouragement, and parents would never know the speech is being shown to their child. I would hope and think that the number of principals and teachers in PWC who would do this is very minor. I would hope. But if any student is forced to watch a speech from a political figure, no matter how high the office or how good the proposed message, then we have subjected children to partisan political speech without regard to the will of the child or their parents. This is unacceptable in a representative Republic like the United States of America and cannot be endured. Parents are taxed to pay for the schools and required to enroll their children, under threat of law. To then subject this captive audience, of the most vulnerable in our society, to partisan (political) speech is inappropriate and unacceptable. The reason they are required to be there is to be educated, not indoctrinated. No matter how well intentioned the message, the messenger represents a socialist communist form of government that is incongruent with the principals upon which this country was founded and rejected by the majority of its current citizens. Subjecting our children to such a figure lends the speaker credibility and constitutes an endorsement of not only the message but of the messenger by the teacher, faculty and parents, in the eyes of the child. This cannot be allowed.
Parents across this country are preparing to keep their kids home on September 8 or taking them out of school during the speech. Prince William County is no exception, despite it being our first day of school. Such activity is not optimal and constitutes an undesirable disruption.
In order to avoid this, the best course of action would be for the PWCS Board to REQUIRE every principal and teacher under PWCS authority to obtain permission BEFORE ALLOWING a student to view the speech. This policy ensures that only children whose parents desire their child to view the speech are among the viewers.
Though you note the opportunity for parents to let their desires be known, there is no guarantee that the teacher must grant the parents wish. The only option left to parents is to keep their children away from the school. Also, such an arrangement taints the child who may be lucky enough to avoid the speech, in the eyes of their fellow students. It also pits parents against teachers. This creates an avoidable confrontational atmosphere. Why would you endorse a policy that creates such confrontation? Any parent who wants their child to see the speech can subject their child to the speech at home, outside of school. That is their choice. We cannot accept a situation that removes choice from the parent as it pertains to their own children and force them to watch the speech.
Time is of the essence and this policy must be promulgated as soon as possible. I call on the PWCS Board to convene an emergency meeting before Mon 7 September to establish this policy and promulgate this policy to each school and teacher PRIOR to school starting on Tuesday.

The United States of America has the best health care available, if you can afford it!
If the terms of your employers health insurance change or if there is an exclusion when you have a terminal condition then, maybe then will any of what is going on in this debate have any relevance to you.
To call this President a socialist only demonstrates how far removed you are from the fact, that all of our branches of Military have socialized medicine all along and those of you when retiring expect to get something called a “Social Security Check” don’t you? …unless you stick your nose up in the air to it all because you consider it, “Socialism”.

RLP - do you know what the five largest items in the U.S. budget are? Social security, medicare, medicaid, interest on the national debt and defence.
The part of medicine that the government has already taken over and has so poorly managed thus far - distorted the market and caused problems that everybody (practitioners/patients) must endure - NOW they want to grab what is left to screw it up completely just to bring everything down to the same unsustainable level they’ve already brought the medicaid/medicare system to.
Look at government’s current under-reimbursement … it means that the rest of us not on medicare & medicaid must pay for the shortfall in higher fees and/or premiums - it is, in essence, a hidden tax on the rest of us. By continuing to refuse to bring reimbursements in line with the actual costs for HC professionals to deliver care to the governments’ patients, Congress gets to keep raising taxes on the rest of us indefinitely without ever actually having to vote for an increase on the floor, and the media can continue to sweep these hidden tax increases under the rug.
If I go to a dentist - with or without insurance - my payment scale will reflect not only the cost of my treatment, but also the amount I must pay to
subsidize the medicaid patient.
If, for example, the real cost of a filling is $100, I will be charged $150 because the doctor will only get paid $50 from the patient with a medicaid card. It’s not unlike rent control, where those not getting the cut rate rent have to pay that much more to offset the cost. Not only must I figure out how to afford my bill, but in addition I am expected to figure out how to pay for others.
Yes indeed, we already have a system of socialized benifits… welfare, rent subsidies, food stamps, medicaid etc where those that pay the bills - fund the services with their hard work and taxes are barred from the very services they pay for.
The government run social systems we have in place today - social security, medicaid and medicare, among others, are going down the financial tubes. They are poorly managed, top heavy with bureaucracy bloat and rife with fraud, waste, theft and abuse. Google up Social Security disability fraud and identity theft. Do the same with Medicare and Medicaid fraud. You will find a multitude of cases that represent one of the MANY reasons health care costs have sky rocketed since the 1970’s.

And PS, I’ve worked since my mid teens - for over thirty years with a good twenty or more to go — and despite having paid into the social security pot all along, I do not presume that I will recieve anything back or that anthing back would provide enough to live on.

I am so happy to address you in my first speech as your Leader.
First, let me get the junk over with — stay in school, do your homework, yada, yada, yada.
What I really want to talk to you about, my little brothers and sisters, is how you can change the world. Our beautiful planet and all the wondrous animals and plants are dying an excruciatingly painful death, minute by minute, second by second, just because your folks mucked it all up.
So I need you, the littlest generation, to get onboard the Obama Love Train, and together we will right all these wrongs. I don’t want you to think of yourself any more as just your parents’ kid. Now you are part of President Obama’s huge rainbow coalition. Think of yourselves as Obama Youth.
The Democratic Leaders and I are working hard to get you out of these stuffy classrooms and into the real world. Soon we’ll be requiring each and every one of you to do community service.

So if you find church a bit of a snooze, announce to your parents that you’ve become an atheist. Or change your name to Hassan or Hussein and become a Muslim. If your parents give you any lip, just call my good friends at the ACLU.
Other fun ways to practice the 3 A’s — buy a t-shirt with Che’s face on it and march around with your fist in the air when you next visit grandma at the nursing home. Tell your Vietnam Vet uncle that you’ve renamed your goldfish, Ho Chi Minh. And if you find your family a big nuisance, there are attorneys out there who can help you divorce the whole motley crew.
Now you are probably thinking, my President is asking a heck of a lot. What’s in it for me?

How much harm do you guys think a hortatory talk by the President did to the nation’s youth? My guess is not much. It may not have done much good, but I really doubt that it scarred any of our little ones. There are parts of the country where it probably did some good, for that matter. It seems pretty basic and not very political. If Ronald Reagan had given the same speech, would it have been equally sinister? I’m a great Reagan fan, and I could see him giving the same speech. I worry about you folks, sometimes. Other times, I just laugh uncontrollably.
