In today's WashPo, Deeds seems to give credence to this, citing that he's spending half his time in tiny, rural areas in SW VA and the other half "north of the Occoquan."

Eh, there is a giant "For Lease" sign outside of the Fredericksburg/Stafford Area Republican Headquarters. That doesn't really mean much.

Being empty, that might be a little more telling of the situation.

Yes, I drove by this place earlier thisafternoon, and indeed there's a "for lease" sign in the window. Never seen a campaign close offices this early in the campaign before. Maybe things are really bad over there.

"Undecided," that analysis is valid only if Deeds considers PWC to be "in the bag" for McDonnell.

Just last year, PW was the "it" County for obama and the Dems. Now all of the libs are saying they don't need the voters here in the County.... Nothing like being used and discarded like a cheap whore.

Incidental, this looks like the K-mart shopping center on Route 234, is it?

Considering Nichols barely eked out a victory over Faisal Gil, Anderson could really capitalize on depressed turnout. Except for Frank Wolf's district, the Democratic Congressional candidates didn't experience much of a drop off from Obama statewide. Connolly had problems in Fairfax, but that was because he was Gerry Connolly in Fairfax. His PWC numbers were in line with Obama. We are becoming more and more partisan in practice even if we pretend we are all "independents." Porta put up numbers close to Kaine in the area if I recall.

The bottom line is Creigh doesn't need PWC to win. However after looking at the 2008 numbers with a large field operation, leaving PWC is either a sign of epic problems (maybe volunteers were hard to come by, are Nichols and the State Senators canvassing) or a profoundly dumb move. You don't walk away from those votes especially because field costs so very little versus ad buys.

Polling in Virginia would indicate that Deeds is probably in deep trouble in Prince William County. Obama's numbers in the county are terrible, and Deeds is closely tracking those. The more Obama tanks, the bigger the drag on Deeds.

Perhaps he thinks PWC is "in the bag" and wants to expend his resources in more contested markets? Strategically, that would be a wise decision.

This has to be a financial decision because strategically giving up on PWC is too dumb to fathom.

Paul Nichols has to be very concerned if his upticket support/organization has abandoned him. If Corey, Mike & Marty can up the pressure in their backyards Delegate Anderson is a lot more likely.

Yeah, pubtards, we're focusing out efforts in Fairfax and Alexandria, and we'll still swamp you in the election. Who needs all you backwards racist rednecks in this county anyways?

This is, strategically, a horrible decision. If Deeds is ceding PWC to McDonnell this early in the race --- I'm not sure I'm convinced that he is --- then he is in deeper trouble than anyone imagines.

Well, McDonnell won vs. Deeds by 2936 votes in 2005 here in PWC. McDonnell actually got more votes in 2005 in PWC than any other GOP candidate statewide AND got more votes in PWC than Tim Kaine and the other 2 statewide Dem candidates! I'm sure recent polling is showing McDonnell is ahead now so I guess the Deeds campaign is pulling out of PWC. Bob is in PWC a lot and knows how important PWC is to a VA win. Go BOB!
