Moran Votes to Keep ACORN in Clover

This shouldn’t be news, because it comes as no surprise, yet it must be reported that US Representative Jim Moran (VA-8th), in his usual lack of brain power, voted NOT to de-fund ACORN. Oh, and as an aside, US Representative Gerry Connolly (VA-11th) opted to not even cast a vote on this important issue of corrupt and illegal behavior from an organization receiving millions of taxpayer dollars.

In a vote of 345-75, with all 75 being Democrats, Moran joins an elite group of sycophants kow-towing to the most extreme left wing of his party. So extreme that the likes of the following reliable liberal Democrats – Sanford Bishop (GA), William Clay (MO), Steve Cohen (TN), Rosa DeLauro (CT), John Dingell (MI), Patrick Kennedy (RI), John Murtha (PA) and Chris Van Hollen (MD) – voted to curtail the funding for the much ballyhooed controversial organization.

ACORN – the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now – has received $53 million in federal funding since 1994 and was slated to receive millions of dollars more in taxpayer funds to continue to advise people how to bilk the system. Video evidence shown to prove the dastardly deeds committed by ACORN should have been more than enough to convince the so-called leaders in Congress that such an organization is unfit to utilize the people’s money.

This is an organization that is not just enabling people, but encouraging them, be they American citizens or not, to break laws. Raw, unedited footage has illustrated how ACORN representatives and workers have advised funding applicants how to skirt the system by claiming they perform work they do not actually perform – work that is illegal. The same footage shows ACORN employees explain how to avoid paying taxes and how to smuggle illegal aliens into the country to be used for underage prostitution.

Then there are those ACORN representatives who illegally registered ineligible people to vote. And don’t forget the decision by the Census Bureau to cut ties with the beleaguered group due to its legal peccadilloes.

The Justice Department, under the thumb of Eric Holder, has refused to investigate ACORN. Could it be because of Obama’s not to distant past relationship with the community organization? After all, Obama represented ACORN as its legal council at one time, and then enjoyed the payback of a huge campaign contribution as a candidate for the highest office in the nation.

All of these ACORN-sponsored activities, dripping in sleaziness, corruption and government connections are reason enough for such an organization to lose every nickel given it by the government – at any level. If this organization is as good as its defenders claim it to be, then it should have no trouble continuing to operate as a nonprofit, receiving no government funding and relying upon the kindness of strangers.

Editor Note: Red State notes that Connolly made every vote immediate prior to and after the vote to defund ACORN, which strongly suggests that Connolly ducked here.  I’m sure his constituents will love that:

But what’s more disturbing is that this was the only vote Connolly missed today. He voted on each of the amendments that preceded the vote on ACORN funding. He voted on final passage on the bill - a vote that followed just 10 minutes later. You’d think he could have managed to be present for a vote on a federal subsidy for child prostitution rings. Instead he was absent - for a vote that every Member knew was coming, and for the only time of the day.

Is ACORN based out of Chicago? Sounds like it. Dickie Durban (Harry’s puppy dog) stood up for them in a vote in the Senate on Monday. What happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago (or so they think.) The demoncratic party is full of left-wing whackos who are intent on turning this country into a third world nation. You have a demoncratic congressman who refused to institute hearings on ACORN’S alleged voter fraud because he said “it was quashed by the “powers that be.” Guess who?

It doesn’t seem to me that Moran is all that vulnerable based on the political disposition of the people living in his district. Hopefully I am wrong but I don’t see how any Republican gets past the liberal majorities in Arlington and Alexandria within the 8th District.

Connolly (11th District) is a much different matter. He can definitely be beaten. Where is the national Republican Party? There should be TV ads in NoVA right now attacking Connolly. From his idiotic plan for Tyson’s Corner (during his final BoS days) to his ducking the ACORN vote, the time to start discrediting this guy is now. That seat is going to be “up for grabs” in just over a year. Where is the drumbeat of anti-Connolly rhetoric? Where is Tom Davis? Where is George Allen? Where are the NoVA Republicans not currently in office?

We must go after Connolly while the issue is fresh and in places he is vulnerable. He will be in Haymarket tomorrow as the Grand Marshall for the parade, sitting on a reviewing stand for at least an hour. I would love to see lots of signs opposite his seat taking him to task on ACORN, healthcare and his constant ducking of his constituents. Get him while he’s a captive on stage and don’t afford him the luxury of an uncontested public forum where he can blow more smoke from the microphone.

Great idea anon. I’ll go and hold a sign right by his big ole goofy weasel chompers so the adoring socialist press will get it in their photos.
