Joe Wilson broke the rules of protocol, decorum, and good manners.(as if bouncing out of your seat after Obama's every utterance to clap and yell hip-hip hooray was mannerly) His actions were rude and insulting ... but so is being deceitful.

Sometimes speaking truth to power trumps protocol.

Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act. - George Orwell

NS, you've got nothing. This take a crack at the messenger to draw attention away from the message routine is stale and, frankly, reeks of desperation.

I don't need your approval and suggest that if you seek affirmation, seek it elsewhere.

LOL at NS. Disparage Joe Wilson's conduct 'til the cows come home - have him banished - shamed - hanged, drawn, quartered and fed to the crows.

None of it changes the fact that Obama is a lying liar.

Pirate: "I would suggest that perhaps considering the stakes, we should investigate what drives the nature of celebrities such as Beck"

Why does that make anything he says less truthful? or anything that he uncovers less objectionable? I could care less about his motives.

Pirate: "The energy spent on worry over Beck’s influence on public opinion would be better spent over the influence on federal policy and law by the Cult of Personality brought about at the last election."

I couldn't agree more. So why did you start this with questioning his motives just because he's a practicing Mormon?

"I would suggest that perhaps considering the stakes, we should investigate what drives the nature of celebrities such as Beck."

*****************************************************
Pirate, I would have to ask "why?" Beck, like other “Media Celebrities” is neither elected by the people nor do they formulate legislation and policy.

You may agree or disagree with their interpretation of the world around them and you may or may not use facts to support your position. However, it should be the position which would have to stand up to scrutiny and not the motivating force inside ones head.

Jeff, re, “…please explain …” Beat’s me… that was never the point of my comments.

Elected officials undergo a great deal of formal, media and public scrutiny to understand their background and their nature before taking office (and, often while in office). Media celebrities, thanks to modern technology, command power and influence that rivals the most powerful of elected officials while forgoing any type of background investigation. I would suggest that perhaps considering the stakes, we should investigate what drives the nature of celebrities such as Beck. My take is that he is a very intelligent man who knows which buttons to push to boost his ratings. It’s the theater of politics... and we are the willing audience always reaching out for someone to show us the way.

I believe that a person's religion is an important component of his or her nature (either a driving or influencing factor). You can’t change a person’s nature; however, you can endeavor to understand it.

Pirate: Yes, Glenn Beck is a faithful devote Mormon. Yes, many Mormon doctrines are "out there" with regards to mainstream Christianity and many Americans would not share those beliefs.

Please explain what all this has to do with ACORN/SEIU using millions of taxpayer dollars for political purposes supporting the president's agenda of socialized health care for the country. Are you trying to say that it's be cause of Glenn Beck's Mormon theology that the Left can't seem be able to win over hearts and minds of the country with a decent debate on the merits of their agenda and they have to resort to attacking their antagonists or attempting to invoke "white guilt" to enable their agendas?

Top 10 Amazing Facts of Mormonism (there are many more)... go ahead and fact check. I mean no disrespect to Mormons. They are good people who take care of their own (IMHO, the BEST social services out there). If you are going to follow someone you need to look at the basis for their beliefs (their "context" for viewing the world). For example, I'm guessing you are all right to lifers based upon your beliefs... and that's ok. I would suggest you at least look at where Beck's head to provide context for the things he says. This is just the tip of the iceburg... and I'm surprised no one has brought it up before.

1. Mormons can become gods and goddesses.

2. Goddesses will spend eternity in full submission to their god-husband.

3. Mormon women will give birth “forever and ever” to spirit-babies.

4. Mormon men can have multiple wives in heaven—eternal polygamy.

5. Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, Heavenly Mother, on a planet near the great star Kolob.

6. American Indians are descendants of the wicked Lamanites, who were Israelites that God cursed with dark skin.

7. God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus, who is the half brother of Lucifer.

8. All Christian churches are an abomination.

9. Mormons need 4 secret handshakes to get into the Celestial heaven.

10. Joseph Smith revealed that the actual Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri.

What a spectacle this thread presents - from Pirate's half-formed reservations about Mormonism, to his antagonists' defenses of Mr. Beck. A veritable food processor-on-puree of ignorance, mis-information, couch-potato idolatry, and mindless infatuation with Cable-schtick. I would think Beck could be recognized for the low-level entertainer (based on what passes for entertainment these days) he is without reference to his religion, and Obama's policies could be defended or attacked without reference to his being of mixed racial descent.

By the way, Jimmy Carter's comments that provoked this racial nonsense line of discussion were (as Jimmy Carter's comments often are) completely un-productive and inaccurate in the current context. However, I think he probably did reflect a reality consistent with his age and demographics - that the tone and content of Mr. Wilson's outburst reflected a common attitude that Carter would have witnessed growing up in a segregated South. Carter has no doubt heard taunts like that hurled at black southerners with "boy" attached as punctuation on the end. Someone of Carter's age and geography probably heard the "boy" part almost out of habit.

I think it far more likely that Wilson intended no racial implications whatsoever, and that he is enough of an ill-mannered oaf without appreciation for the central dignity of the Congress and the President in the Republic that Madison, Hamilton, and others crafted for us that he would have said the same thing to a President of any ethnic background. People like that shouldn't be sitting in the Congress of the United States or in any position of responsibility in the public or private sector. However, it makes complicated a very simple problem to imply that the remark was racially motivated, or that the issues of the times, whatever low level of discourse they are attracting or encouraging, are primarily explained by racial prejudice against the President.

The efforts of Greg, Glenn and others in shedding light on the very things our elected officials do not want the general public to see are greatly appreciated by many. How one can tie this into some racial conspiracy in the dispensing of justice on the issue of the Beltway Sniper is both disappointing yet not surprising.

What Roy.Williams and many others who share his dogma are blinded to is the simple fact that America is the land of opportunity, not guaranteed outcome of ones wants. They need to throw off the yoke of dependency, stop waiting for some program to do "it" for them and start doing something for themselves.

What our President and his supporters refuse to recognize and acknowledge is the underlying cause for the failure of Lyndon Johnsons Great Society, Head Start and most all other social programs.

When something is given away there is little value attached to it, and the more of it that is thrown at society further reduces that value. Diminished value equals diminished returns.

While on the other hand, when opportunity is successfully capitalized upon to earn something, the true value of that experience is priceless.

Great Society's grand failure

How one can tie this into some racial conspiracy in the dispensing of justice on the issue of the Beltway Sniper is both disappointing yet not surprising.

What Roy.Williams and many others who share his dogma are blinded to is the simple fact that America is the land of opportunity, not guaranteed outcome of ones wants. They need to throw off the yoke of dependency, stop waiting for some program to do “it” for them and start doing something for themselves.

Great Society’s grand failure

Seems like Pirate has been this "useful idiot" on this posting; everyone else has shown their reasoned understanding of the discussion topic, at Mr.(?) Pirate's expense.
