One thing that all need to remember is to make sure that we all vote and our like minded friends and family vote too. Rich Anderson won by only 200 votes, literally. I was following the returns and thought he was going to lose until I saw the results of absentee ballots. Rich came out ahead in absentee ballots by 257 votes, which made the difference. So if someone gives you an excuse for not votinng due to time or work considerations, tell them to go absentee ballot. It took me about 10 minutes to do at the DMV office at Caton Hill.

PWC Voter: Your post brought back some memories. 1976 was the first time I voted, also. I was a young officer in the Army and in command of a company ("battery" in Field Artillery parlance) full of criminals and drug addicts at Fort Hood, Texas. The first voting lever I ever pulled in my life was in the Texas Presidential Democratic Primary for Jesse Jackson (senior, of course) because he was the only candidate at that time with an anti-drug message.

park'd, I disagree with you. I hope they keep running Jeanette against Jackson. Jackson has been good for us and we know that Rishell cannot win against him. Lets see if she is dumb enough to try for a fourth time.

Precinct-level data is at https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/election/DATA/2009/37C2EDEB-FACB-44C1-AF70-05FB616DCD62/UnOfficial/00_153_s.shtml

I will be digging into several races at the precinct-data level later on today, but until then you're free to look through the raw data if you want to get a handle on what happened.

I remember being in college in North Carolina when Carter won in 1976. That was a dismal feeling because we knew what was coming, and we were right. However, 1976 was the first year I was old enough to vote and I’ve always been delighted to say that the first vote I ever cast in a presidential election was for Ronald Reagan in the North Carolina primary. NC was Reagan’s first primary win and even though he was not our nominee in 1976 he gave us hope that we would survive Jimmy Carter and move on to much better things. Positive change is possible regardless of how bad the situation looks at the moment!

Some of that uplifted spirit Reagan gave us through the Carter debacle came back last night. Obama considers himself FDR, JFK or “the One.” It’s hard to tell on any given day. However, he is really nothing more than Jimmy Carter on steroids. Obama is a decent, intelligent, sincere man, as was Jimmy Carter, who still enjoys a large degree of personal good will. But yesterday Americans, aside from the most brainwashed Obamatrons and left-wing ideologues, showed that they realize what a disaster his policies are for our country. In Virginia and New Jersey independents and seniors, who had been key to Obama’s 2008 win, deserted the Democrats in droves to join Republicans to bring about change.

Republicans don’t have a single Ronald Reagan this time. We do have many good people who can come together to take back our country in the 2010 House and Senate elections, and to send President Obama to join Jimmy Carter as a community volunteer in 2012. Many of our young Republicans coming into leadership roles now were not around when Reagan led our party. They didn’t experience the enthusiasm and excitement he created for those of us who were active then. Nonetheless, we’ve got the momentum and the positive spirit that Ronald Reagan gave us thirty years ago. Let’s move forward in a positive way and elect strong Republican leaders who can start to fix the damage that’s been done, as Ronald Reagan and the Republicans did after the 1980 election.

GREAT. Now let us create the agenda for our newly elected leaders....IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT IN VA!

1. Eliminate all benefits to illegal aliens....just take a look at the The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF). This program allows illegal alien adults to receive welfare using only their childrens information. Here is the article:
http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2009/nov/no-illegal-aliens-welfare-doubles

We need to have our elected officials look into these things and put a stop to them. Additionally, we need workplace enforcement, e-verify, random checkpoints on our roads, etc. etc. etc. It is time to take action like Sheriff Joe does in Arizona. Let's get busy!
