Steve Hunt Kickoff Video
By Greg L | 8 November 2009 | Fairfax County, Virginia Senate | 18 Comments
Here are some highlights from the Steve Hunt kickoff. Voters in the 37th Senate District would be hard-pressed to find a better candidate to represent them in the Senate of Virginia.

re Marsden’s near loss, see http://www.examiner.com/x-2782-DC-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m11d8-Virginia-incumbents-losses-explained-by-weakness-on-gun-rights (examining the large number of incumbent Delegate losses this election).
Steve Hunt is a solid citizen and would represent the 37th very well.
Shouldn’t you say “WHOM do you support to replace Cooch in the Senate?” LOL
Actually, other choices might be “I like them all equally” or “Undecided.”
I am not real excited about a guy who could not win re-election to the school board. This seat is far to important to risk on such a candidate. While I like Mr. Hunt personally, he is simply not a winner.
We must keep this seat.
Who else running has ever even conducted a campaign? No one. Not only has Hunt done so, but he’s won.
And then the voters said no after watching him in office. That did not happen to Ken in basically the same district.
We must keep this seat. I dont think he can win, even in this great environment.
If BVBL is already behind Hunt, thats fine. However is there any chance of some analysis on the other candidates?
I have to respond to both Anonymous posters….whether you are the same person or not. There is a bigger difference now in Fairfax that goes beyond the good political environment generally.
There is now a grassroots infrastructure in place that is part of the GOP ops….so Hunt won’t have the problem with boots on the ground, as was the case when he lost last time. This is the main reason that Cooch was able to survive in Fairfax when other GOP candidates did not. He built his OWN grassroots network that could operate with or without the Fairfax County GOP’s help. Now that the local GOP has been turned around and rebuilt and re-energized, it will not be an issue in this special election.
In addition, last time since Hunt was running for school board he was at the bottom of the ladder when it came to money or people. In addition, the Davis people explicitly laid out a claim that their race was the most important and did very little to help anyone out, and that was a big part of the district. There were nearly no HoD candidates anywhere outside of Tim Hugo and Dave Albo.
Like Gnarly said, the new era in Fairfax will lend to Hunt top-of-the-ticket tier organization and money that he didn’t get before. People are fired up, Marsden is weak, Hunt can ad will win.
A reply to “Anonymous” — Steve actually CARRIED the 37th District in all three of his at-large School Board races — even when he narrowly lost County-wide. No other candidate in the race can make that claim, has the track record as a proven vote-getter in the 37th and has the name ID.
Anonymous you seem to have all the answers. Why don’t you come out of hiding and run for the seat?
Special elections are all about GOTV….people are not going to get out and vote for someone they dont know i.e. Horinko/Nance. Steve has the name recognition and grassroots network necessary to wage a successful special election bid. Besides, in this race, as long as he gets past the primary he will win. The dems have no serious candidate, as evident by their serious consideratin of a guy (marsden) who barely won re-election with the incumbent advantage and who doesnt even live in the district. If they have to go out of district and find someone that they believe to be even slightly viable then this shows that they are grasping at straws. Steve Hunt will not only win the primary because of his long standing service to the community, but he will win the special election because this is a GOP seat through and through. Even more so now that Cooch is AG-elect. I pse this question. Where were Horinko and Nance last year while Steve was standing at polling locatins fighting for the GOP ticket? Where were Horinko and Nance when Steve was calling people to go votre for Pat Herrity? Where were Horinko and Nance when Steve was organizing his home precinct to deliver the biggest GOP vote of all precincts? Steve has done the ground work of a grassroots republican, and he will take his military background and experience to Richmond to do some good. Just because you have a lot of money (Horkino was too busy fundraising for her own campaign which didnt even exist yet instead of helping Bob/Bill/Ken/GOP Delegates like Steve) doesnt mean that you can sweep in and buy yourself a Senate seat. All due respect to Nance, endorsements from FORMER Sen. Santorum dont help you in Fairfax County. What local experience do you have here, in Fairfax County and what makes you a better choice to go to Richmond than Steve? Same question to Horinko, aside from being yet another lawyer who wants a senate seat, what local experience do you have that warrants you taking this seat?
To Anonymous…..despite being a Republican in an anti-Bush year (2007), and losing the Washington Post endorsement, and CAP endorsement, and not even having a legitimate campaign staff, Steve lost county wide by less than 1 point. Additionally, as was pointed out, he WON the 37th district. Take his 2007 votes in the 37th’s precincts and add them up, Steve wins…..
I said I like Hunt. I just want to make sure we win back the seat.
Gnarly, thanks for your input. That sounds like good news regardless of who
Truth to Power, lighten up dude. I never said I have all the answers. And I dont live in the district. Im simply not a fan of re-running candidates who have lost as an incumbent (a second try challenger is ok).
Even when one has made bad votes as an incumbent, incumbency is the single biggest advantage to re-election.
If Hunt is the nominee I am 100% behind him. I think the other two candidates might bring some good qualities to the table.

I like Steve, but making the flag into neckwear is disqualifying. We need patriots in public office, not flag desecrators.
It’s not the American flag, goof. It has some of the same elements as the flag, but the design is different.
Gosh, where do some folks come from…
Making flag motifs into clothing offends my conservative sensibilities. There are many acceptable cravates available at findedepartment stores in the region that do not mis-use the flag. And, you misspelled my name.
To Scout…..so I guess you get angry at everyone who wears an American Flag Lapel pin….right?
FYI, Steve Hunt’s campaign is already putting out signs along Route 123 just south of GMU in Fairfax.
