Walk For Children

By Greg L | 20 November 2009 | Patriotism, Manassas City, Prince William County | 6 Comments

Once again, Austin Haynes is raising money for a good cause in his quest to be sort of a one-man United Way for the City of Manassas.  He’s raised money for a number of charitable causes over the years with 24 hour swims and other tests of endurance and perseverance that are pretty darned incredible.  This time he’s abusing himself to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club and Court Appointed Special Advocates.  I urge readers to support this man who has decided to donate his Christmas Eve for the kids, and probably Christmas Day for them as well after he recovers from a seventy-five mile forced march.

The Walk for Children is fast approaching, as are the Holidays. Training is becoming quite intense and my feet feel as if I am walking on glass most of the time. The final route of 75 miles is just about laid out; I should have it finished this evening. I will start walking at Midnight Christmas Eve at the CASA headquarters in Manassas and proceed over to all of the Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as the McCoart Building and City Hall. I hope to finish at St John Paul the Great in time for Midnight mass Christmas morning. I probably will not be very presentable at that point!

Thank you so much for those that have already given or have offered to walk with me and raise additional monies. WE ALL LOVE TO RECEIVE AT CHRISTMAS, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS A TIME FOR GIVING! The funds raised can be designated for the Boys and Girls Clubs and/or CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Please mail you checks to Christopher Real Estate Co. 9316 Center St Manassas VA 20110 c/o WALK. If you wish your money split between the organizations, put split in the memo section and make it to CASA, or your just make it direct to the organization you wish to support and mail to the above address.

These children need our help!! Cases of abuse, both sexual and physical have risen with the downfall of the economy. CASA must put on an extra staff person and needs several additional advocates to handle its case load. The Boys and Girls Club is trying desperately to reopen the doors to its Heiser Club in Dumfries.

Just this year in Greater Manassas and Prince William, we have seen and read of the abuse and deaths of several children. I need your help!!! Everyone knows about budget cuts in local and state government, these groups need us, the people to stand up! I will walk for 24 hours to bring notice to this desperate situation, please support me.

Thanks for the support!!! We may all disagree at times politcally, but we can all agree that physical and sexual abuse of children needs to be wiped out. None of us can do it by ourselves, but together we can make a difference. The Boys and Girls Clubs and the Court Appointed Special Advocates are two organizations that work on a very tight budget, but get a lot done. The staff and volunteers at these organizations are who desrves all of the kudos.

As to myself, as some of you know, I was a victim as a child. I was blessed to have several sets of fantastic foster parents who kept me from falling off the deep end. This is just my way of honoring them in this holiday season. Also, my wife is either a Saint for putting up with my endeavors, or she is counting my life insurance money prematurely.

    Thanks And Please Help!!!

    Hey Austin -

You seem like a good egg. Why don’t you run for the State Senate seat vacated by Cuccinelli? According to the people who write and comment on this blog - the people who have announced their candidacy are terrible choices.

One once worked for the federal government. Shame, shame.
Another is a carpetbagger who has only lived in Northern Virginia since 1952.

Here’s the main difference between this blog and the “anti” blog - you advocate for local charities. The only time that the old biddies on anti talk about charity is when it directly benefits them. This blog focuses on charities and individuals who work for the good of the community.

Kudos to you, Austin, for your good work and caring for those in the community who need help. And kudos to Greg for keep the community aware of those who are giving their all for PWC and the community at large.

so true..the anti’s dont care about anything other than extending un-earned entitlement to those who dont deserve.

however children are a special case and deserve everything we can give them, I hope this event goes greatly and wish austin all the best…he’s doing a good thing.

Here’s an update from Friday, November 27th:

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It is 1:15 am on Friday and I am getting ready for to do a training walk before I hit the stores for black Friday. We are way behind on raising funds for the Walk for Children on Christmas Eve, so I am asking you as you hit the stores to write one additional check to CASA or the Boys and Girls Club. CASA can even take donations by credit card if you let me know.

I know times are tough and people are struggling, but our children still need to be protected! They do not understand why the Dad or Mom is under such stress worrying about whether or not he/she will still have a job. They can’t understand why Mom and Dad are always fighting, and why suddenly they get angry and snap at the child. Unfortunately, that is just mild, some parents take out their frustration physically, mentally, or even sexually on their children. I am not talking about a slap on the backside, I am talking about being burnt with a cigarette, beat with a bat, or even raped.

These organizations I am trying to raise money for provide a positive environment for our children and give them a voice. I am passionate about this cause as are many others. We need your support this Holiday season. Please Help! Send your donations to Christopher Real Estate c/o the Walk 9216 Center St. Manassas VA 20110. Make your check to CASA or the Boys and Girls Clubs. If you wish to split your donation, make the check to CASA and write split in the memo section. Thank you and God Bless, Austin
