Live From the RPV Advance!

By Greg L | 3 December 2009 | RPV | 5 Comments

For those of you not able to be at the 26th Annual Huffman Advance this weekend, a special treat.  I will be part of the team from the New Media Committee live streaming the luncheon and dinner banquet activities on Saturday, and you can tune in to the RPV Advance Ustream Channel or the RPV website to see it.  The luncheon broadcast will start at noon, and the banquet broadcast will start at 7PM.  Lunch features speeches from Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli, and the dinner will have RNC Chairman Michael Steele and Congressman Eric Cantor, who I understand is going to lay out something similar to the “Contract With America” which should be pretty exciting to see.

You’ll find the live stream embed below the fold…

The Advance used to be a place where grassroots workers were warmly welcomed by elected Republicans, who would then enjoy a relaxed discussion of ideas while imbibing copious amounts of, “adult beverages.”

In recent years, the Advance has become a canned, sterile, fund-raiser with the same tired “seminars” held each year. The only time the grassroots workers get to see elected officials, is if they PAID to attend the special receptions. The last remaining benefit of attending, the parties in the suites, is now gone, thanks to the pussification of the Party by prohibitionists like Bob McDonnell.

In the recent past, you could sit down in the lounge at the Homestead on Saturday and catch part of a football game while having a beer with George Allen, Pat Buchanan and then Speaker of the House, Vance Wilkins.

Now, it’s just not any fun.

Sorry you feel that way. Although I had a lot of work to do, I found it to be darned engaging and had a lot of fun. I certainly didn’t get any sense that the real grass-roots were being ignored or dismissed in any way, and the hospitality suites were great.

Maybe if you get a chance to come to one of these again, you’ll find they’re not at all as bad as you think.

    J. Tyler–So sorry you missed it…Bob McDonnell hosted a free reception Saturday afternoon and he was highly accessible. George Allen, Bill Bolling, Ken Cuccinelli, Eric Cantor, many newly elected HOD delegates, Keith Fimian and other candidates for upcoming elections were also available Friday night to meet with in free hospitality suites. There was plently of free “face time” in the pub downstairs also. I thought the Advance was lots of fun without ever paying extra for any of these great meet & greets.
