The Democrats are the ones with the weak bench. They had
no one to seize the opportunity presented by Obama’s
victory in PWC and the two cities and they still don’t.
A majority of voters apparently are willing to vote Democratic,
but they have to be motivated by a strong candidate
with an energized campaign.

No shortage there at all. You can pick from Jackson Miller, John Stirrup, Bob Fitzsimmonds, Austin Haynes, Doug Waldron, Andy Harrover, Marc Aveni, and about a dozen other active Republicans. The issue isn’t whether there are strong candidates out there, but how we can select one of them without having a crazy free-for-all. Since this side of the county is a Republican stronghold we’ve got a deep and experienced bench.

If Colgan retires, it’ll be interesting to see who Democrats will come up with to run on that side. Their bench is filled with nothing but people who couldn’t win elections, or have no experience at all in campaigns.

Duck Colgan can avoid the voters when he chooses. Good luck on contacting him or getting a reply. In person is about the best way. Duck doesn’t own Colgan Air anymore so he is “off the hook” but I agree that he will not run again.

He got the money for the airport and the road improvements around the airport (it only took him 20+ years to finally get Rt234 widened). Other than being a nice guy, I don’t see much that Duck has done and I have been here before he became a Senator.

I certainly don’t wish Duck any ill-will but I really never saw Duck doing much except around the airport. Isn’t that where Colgan Airways started?

I’ve been saying (for a while now) he’ll NOT run again.

Plus, I’m SURE he’ll be spending a LOT of time in court in Buffalo (or was it Albany?) N.Y. (TRYING to blame the pilot)!
