All one needed to do was stay awake in civics and/or government class in high school to shake the head in disbelief at what's going on lately. Oh, and BTW, it's not enough to ask a congressperson about the Constitution. One must make it clear that the answer is NOT the interstate commerce clause.

I was actually able to get through to Warner's office today and spoke with a very pleasant staffer. I proceeded to unload (gently of course) on him regarding the healthcare bill--it's a joke, I don't understand why Warner is supporting, it won't reduce the deficit, without tort reform there is no real reform etc. He took my name and zip code and said they were relaying constituent concerns to the Senator.

Webb's office was another matter. Busy signal all day long to speak to someone (which could be a good thing) and the voice mail box was full.

What a bigger disaster this will be if the Senate caves to the House on the final bill.

It won't take much to represent the people better than Webb, Warner, and dim wit Connolly, that's for sure.

Karla, how 'bout you (or any other person who conscientiously cares about constituent opinion) interested in political office? Sad part is that because of their carefully planned "connections," it would be very difficult for any common, ordinary person to campaign and even remotely come close to "out-financing" of any of 'em! :(

I wrote this to fellow Virginians BEFORE the 1 AM capitulation vote by Sens. Warner and Webb. Delegate Bob Marshall

Sen. Jim Webb’s vote on final passage is NOT the critical vote on Obama’s misnamed healthcare plan to turn citizens into serfs.

If Jim Webb votes for Cloture, or voting to cut off debate, and then votes AGAINST final passage of the “Health Care Reform” bill, it would be like the get-away driver at a bank robbery claiming he had nothing to do with pointing a gun at the teller inside the bank. He facilitated it. He is an accomplice. Sen. Webb will not have "clean hands."

I worked on Capitol Hill for six years. Voting for cloture and then voting against final passage is a cynical ploy that Senate Democrat leaders rountinely accept with a wink and a nod.

Voting for cloture is a NECESSARY step to final passage. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) needs all 60 votes to end debate. Under these circumstances, Jim Webb is the vote that seals and ensures passage of Obamacare if he supports cloture.

Sen. Reid can throw away some democrat votes for final passage if he can get Jim Webb and Mark Warner to cut off debate.

Virginians need to demand that Sen. Webb vote against both Cloture AND final passage.

Better yet, also ask Jim Webb where in the US Constitution the Congress has the legal authority to compel any resident of the US to enter into a contract with a private health provider to purchase insurance which must be approved by the Obama Administration. Hint, there isn't any.

The Congressional Budget Office in 1994 and the Congressional Research Service in 2009 both criticized and seriously questioned whether Members of Congress can legally do this without violating their Oath of Office.

We must continue to write or call, but recent experience suggests Jim Webb or Mark Warner will not be responsive. I hope I am not correct.

But by rejecting an amendment on procedural grounds to restrict abortion coverage from the Senate health plan, Jim Webb and Mark Warner both showed complete indifference to Virginians who know that abortion involves the direct taking of a life of a child. And both want each of us to be complicit in an act of killing in the name of health care. Reprehensible!

So, again, please contact Sen. Mark Warner and Sen. Jim Webb and urge them to vote against both Cloture and final passage of Sen.Reid’s “health care reform.” Any other vote pattern from them is cynical political posturing.

Delegate Bob Marshall

If anyone can beleive this it was written by Sen. Webb in Parade Magazine on 5/18/08.

"Our country is in the middle of a profound crisis. This crisis has many causes, but much of it has been brought about by poor leadership decisions at every level of government. In addition, our electoral process is dominated by financial interests that are threatened by the very notion of reform.

Elections shouldn’t be media circuses, nor should they be auctions where a candidate sells himself to the highest bidder. They should be moral contracts between those who wish to lead and those who are consenting to be led.

What, then, must we do?

In one form or another, this question is asked daily in every community and in almost every household around the world. In authoritarian societies, it’s whispered; in others, it is debated. In America, we quite frankly find ourselves doing a little of both.

Our challenges lie in improving the way we’ve been selecting our leaders. To the American voters, I offer this advice: Be as shrewd and ruthless in your demands on our leaders as the wizards running campaigns are in their strategies to get your vote. Do your part to send to Washington people who truly want to solve the problems of this country from the bottom up.

You won’t regret it. You will benefit from it. And the stakes could not be higher. Sometimes the business of politics seems silly. It can also be infuriating. But you must stay in the game, because you and your grandchildren will be the inheritors of both our successes and flaws."

Wm. T. Bolling: "Thank you for...considering my views on this important issue."

The ONLY thing these two (and ALL) politicians "consider" is their OWN GIANT EGOS and STUFFING their pockets !!!!

Once again, the PROBLEM is not Democrats or Republicans but POLITICIANS !!!

Here it is, you heard it here FIRST: Politicians don't SOLVE problems, politicians FUND problems !!!

Let me say that again: Politicians don't SOLVE problems, politicians FUND problems !!!

LOGIC tells you that if you SOLVE a problem you can no longer justify FUNDING the problem !!!

So WHY, in the interest of all who SKIM OFF THE TOP, would anyone in their right mind SOLVE a problem ?

Now, for your amusement: If Obama and Pelosi were were trapped on a life boat, and the life boat sank, WHO would be saved?

December 21, 2009

The Honorable Mark Warner
United States Senate
SDB Building 40C
Washington, DC 20510

The Honorable Jim Webb
United States Senate
144 Russell Building
Washington, DC 20510

RE: Federal Healthcare Reform Legislation

Dear Senators Warner and Webb:

I have been following with great interest the important debate currently taking place in Washington with respect to the proposed reform of our nation’s healthcare system.

While I certainly agree that we face serious problems with respect to the affordability and availability of healthcare for many Americans, it is important that any reform legislation address these issues without creating other problems for American consumers and businesses or jeopardizing the quality of our healthcare delivery system, which is currently the best in the world.

For many reasons, I strongly oppose the healthcare reform legislation that is currently pending before the United States Senate and I encourage you to vote against this legislation and any procedural votes that would allow this legislation to come to a final vote.
In my judgment, the legislation currently pending in the Senate will ultimately increase the cost of healthcare and result in higher health insurance premiums and higher taxes for the vast majority of the American people.
In addition, I believe that this legislation will jeopardize the quality of healthcare that is currently available in our country and take important healthcare decisions out of the hands of consumers and turn these decisions over to government bureaucrats.

Perhaps most importantly, I am concerned that the cost of this legislation will be much higher than currently estimated, and it will inevitably add significantly to the cost of our federal deficit, which is, quite frankly, out of control and threatens the long term financial viability of our nation.

If these concerns were not reason enough to vote against this misguided legislation, I am writing to you today to let you know that I am outraged by reports that surfaced this weekend regarding concessions that were made to Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson to secure his vote in support of this legislation.

As you know, one of our major concerns with this legislation is the potential impact it could have on the cost of Medicaid for Virginia’s state government. Many reports have suggested that this legislation could result in much higher Medicaid costs for state governments across the nation, costs that state governments simply cannot bear.

Against this background, I was amazed to hear that the Senate’s Democratic leadership had made concessions to Senator Nelson that would hold his home state of Nebraska harmless as to any additional Medicaid costs that might come about as a result of the enrollment of new Medicaid recipients after 2017.

I find these reports particularly troubling since they come on the heels of similar concessions that were given to Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana to secure her vote in support of this legislation just a few weeks ago.

In addition to the “pay offs” that were offered to Senators Nelson and Landrieu, unconfirmed media reports over the weekend have revealed that other Senators may have negotiated similar special treatment deals for their states. If these reports are accurate, this type of quid pro quo is unacceptable, and you and your colleagues should object strongly to the practice, which I have no doubt the American people will find offensive as well.

If the Senate’s leadership is so desperate to obtain votes to secure the passage of this legislation that they would make these types of concessions to these Senators, I would ask that you demand that the same concessions be extended to Virginia, and for that matter, to every other state in the nation.

Allowing key provisions in this legislation to be used to essentially buy votes from Senators Landrieu and Nelson at the expense of other states such as Virginia should be as offensive to you as it is to me, and it should give you all the reason you need to oppose this misguided legislation.

Thank you for your service to the people of Virginia and for considering my views on this important issue.

Very Truly Yours,

Look's like Harry has rubbed the ear's of the Virginia lap dogs in the proper manner; Harry got the votes he was counting on. Finally, we know that Jim Webb has "decided" to vote for the Senate health care bill. This must be such a relief for the poor man, I imagine he has struggled mightily with this decision. Now, the only decision left is for Virginians to decide now to support Senator Webb's future opponent.

It sure was strange for Webb to maintain that he had not "decided" how he would vote; only to have Harry counting on his vote the whole time. The only opportunity for a larger personal disgrace for Webb will be for him to follow up last night's vote to stop debate (cloture), with a "no" vote for the final bill's passage. Could you imagine that happening?

While we slept... Anyway, Obama care will turn into a an Obama snare come the next elections. Also, there is no reason for VA getting anything out of the bribes and underhanded deals; why buy the cow when you get the milk free?
