Happy New Year!

Things I’m looking forward to in 2010:
- Keith Fimian unseating Gerry Connolly in the 11th District
- Seeing someone replace Jim Rich as Chairman of the 10th Congressional District Committee
- Chuck Colgan announcing his retirement and a special election being announced in the 29th Senate District, with Delegate Jackson Miller running to replace him
- The Anointed One continuing to set a record for the highest disapproval ratings for a President in modern history
What are you looking forward to?

same as you, Greg - looking to throw the bums out!
Some fun from the Washington Times: Wishful Headlines

McDonnell trip to Vegas resolves road funding crisis!
Jackson Miller? Can’t we find a real conservative? I know he is your buddy, but he is moderate at best…
An end to abortions in Manassas
There’s no way Jim Rich belongs in the company of the rest of your enemies here. Just because he doesn’t cave in to the JAC’s of the world doesn’t mean he’s the devil, and Frank Wolf supports the man.
I continually find myself deeply disappointed at the way Jim Rich bullies the process and cloaks everything that happens in the 10th CD in a veil of secrecy. I have heard nothing but complaints over how he has run things, and have been able to confirm just about every one of those complaints. This isn’t a JAC thing — this has been ongoing for years before she came on the scene and a number of us have been furious with Rich for a long time.
If someone such as PWC Chairman Lyle Beefelt, who has run everything above board and allowed everyone to have a say was running the 10th CD, it would be a far more effective organization. I have no idea if he would ever be interested in the job, but he is a great example of how a committee can run without discord and strife by being a leader instead of a tyrant. We need someone in the 10th CD who demonstrates the former much more than the latter, and Jim Rich only knows the latter. Only.
I can’t imagine that Frank Wolf supports this guy out of anything but a misplaced sense of loyalty. Jim Rich absolutely does nothing to help Frank and regularly pisses off a huge swath of grass-roots activists who have largely removed themselves from whatever is happening in the 10th District and instead work directly for candidates they like. No district in Virginia has as dysfunctional and irrelevant a CD Committee as the 10th.
Hey Max, Jackson Miller is the reason we have 287g here in PWC.
When he was on the City Council it was his motion that forced the issue to the local jail board, which in turn forced the issue on the County Board of Supervisors.
How do I apply for the chairman in the 10th district???
What do I need to do to find out more about the job of chairman in the 10th district?
Can someone assist me with this?
Gerry Connelly is toast. Put a fork in him.
Hopefully, Tom Davis’ boy, Pat Herrity, will keep his posterior where it belongs for now, on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. If Herrity wants to make a name for himself, let him take Bulova’s scalp.
Those victories would be a huge win for conservatives.
My wishes for 2010:
Chuck Colgan retires and a conservative takes his place
Mandatory E-Verify for all businesses in Virginia becomes law
Governor McDonnell enrolls the state police in the 287(g) program
A conservative victory in 2010 - allowing conservatives to control both the House and the Senate
Reid and Pelosi’s “healthcare reform” is NOT enacted
The federal government ceases bail outs
Every socialist policy being promoted by Obama fails
Knowing Jim Rich, the filing deadline passed last week for a convention next April/May. He’s a real team-builder…
I’m looking forward to Bob McDonnell showing other state governors how it’s done.
Is anyone running against Webb, or does he get a free pass for voting for our economic and health care system destruction?
Look for George Allen to rise like a phoenix and eat Jim Webb’s lunch. Sweet, delicious, ironic revenge.
hey max, who’s your boy (or girl) to replace colgan? fitzsimmons?
Good list. The Times list is good, too. And Harold, I was going to say what Brian said, but he beat me to it.
Only Jeff Wolinksi AKA “Loudmouthed Inciter” could defend the heavy-handed way that Jim Rich conducts himself as 10th CD Chairman. And, as much as I like George Allen, he should never be forgiven for serving as the former Governor’s hatchet man when he tried to remove Pat McSweeney as State GOP Chairman.
Fimian cant beat Connolly, only Herrity stands a reasonable chance. Fimian = Gerry Connolly re-election.
Don’t think I agree with that, “Local GOP.” Don’t have anything against Herrity, but I think Fimian stands a good chance, too.
So “Local GOP,” when is Tom Davis’ sock puppet going to declare his candidacy? Next Christmas?
BattleCat, Bob Marshall is preparing a run against Webb as we speak. I think he would be a great candidate and would crush Webb in a debate.
I cant wait for Bob Marshall to serve in the U. S. Senate. He is exactly what we need in Washington D.C.
Here’s my thoughts:
Connolly has angered a lot of hard core liberals that believe he’s not liberal enough. If we were to run a not so polarizing figure against him like Herrity, there is a greater that those liberals just dont bother to vote for Connolly. But if Fimian, lets be fair is a lot more polarizing that Herrity, were to run, those hard core liberals would be much more likely to show up and vote against Fimian. Plus Herrity has much more ties to the local community than Fimian does and independents that normally wouldnt even vote are more likely to come out and vote for someone they know (herrity) than someone they dont (Fimian). Just seeing his bumper sticker or commercial isnt knowing him really.
Doc,
You obviously dont know what you are talking about in your calling Herrity Davis’ sock puppet. Davis hand picked Fimian to run, if there is a sock puppet, its Fimian. Get a clue. Im not Pat Herrity, I dont know, I would suspect after the special in the 37th so as to not draw attention from it. But it could be sooner or later. I would love for some polling to be done 1) connolly v fimian 2) connolly v herrity. I think it would put to rest the debate as to who should get the nomination. I think Herrity would be an asset on the BOS, but I would rather have Chairman Bulova and Congressman Herrity than Chairman Herrity and Congressman Connolly.
Again, where do you get the opinion that Herrity is Davis’ sock puppet, thats a pretty base-less comment, especially if you know anything about how Fimian even came to run back in 2008.
FOrgive my ignorance, but why are we against Jim Rich?
Local GOP, just you watch.
The call for a convention in the 10th District will be issued soon. The Committee had Jim Rich read portions of it to them, but they haven’t had a chance to see it.
I expect, as others have commented, that when the call comes out there will be an insanely short time period for anyone to file for Chairman and the filing requirements will be more onerous than any other district in Virginia. This is exactly what happened last time. It is not out of the realm of possibilities that the filing deadline will have expired before the call is actually published, as that has actually been done in the past.
Anyone who tried to abuse process in order to maintain power is simply a tyrant. Jim Rich fits that to a “T”, on every occasion to prove so.
Just keep an eye out for the inevitable BS that will happen within the call to convention this year. Let that be your proof. If it is fair and open, you can rest assured we got the right guy running the 10th CD. If not, you’ll know we do not.
Greg is absolutely right about Rich’s heavy-handedness and self-serving tactics; I witnessed it through three cycles after we moved into the 10th, before we were re-districted back to the 11th.
As for the “sock-puppet” comments, I don’t seem them as fair as applied to either Herrity OR Fimian. Among those to whom such a label has been applied, there may well be merit, but I haven’t observed anything to suggest that it has merit as applied to Herrity or Fimian. Moreover, I don’t hold that government experience is particularly relevant as applied to a congressional seat — certainly, it is doubtful that the Founders did, either — and I suspect that Fimian will be a much more effective candidate this time than he was able to be in a truly horrendous GOP year.
And as far as Anon’s comments about Bob Marshall are concerned, I certainly haven’t made any commitments in that race, but any even marginal Conservative has to concede that Bob would be a lot of fun as a Senator!
OK, so Herrity is not a Tom Davis sock puppet. Local GOP seems to be a special oracle, so I’ll take the cherry flavored KoolAid.
But, as Mr. Young states, government experience is not particularly relevant to a congressional seat. In fact I would suggest it is a liability. Correct, our Founders envisioned citizens called to service and then returning to live in their communities, amongst the citizenry that elected them. Another check and balance to their power, but the Founders never envisioned a professional class of politicians who never leave. They just seek more power and never return home. Politics becomes their career and life-long passion, their means of support, income, and retirement. When they can’t hold office any longer, they become lobbyists and run PACs. This is the poison that is ruining our country.
So, I’ll take a businessman who understands how to build the economy, create jobs, manage people and resources, balance the books, protect and preserve the US Constitution, and promote limited government. At this time, Fimian best fits that requirement.
So, when I see the political class circling (Tom Davis, Herrity et al), I want to just say, “No.” Let’s try some non-politicians with relevant real life experiences, as our Founders envisioned. If Fimian becomes part of the problem and joins the permanent political class, well, by that time the Republic will be completely bankrupt and failed anyway.
We know what Gerry Connelly is about. Despicable and disgusting. Under the present circumstances a dead skunk in the middle of the road should be able to beat him. If Connolly wins against anyone, we’re doomed anyway. Time to unite and throw all the bums out.
Babe,
What are you talking about. You obviously dont have a clue what you are talking about and are just a talking head that spits out talking points to slam Davis.
FACTS:
1. Herrity has been in elected office for a whole 3 years, a far cry from the political elite you claim he is apart of.
2. Fimian was HAND PICKED by the political elite you dont like (DAVIS) to run for Congress.
3. Herrity does have REAL WORLD experience, he is a CFO of a local software corporation. CFOs do everything you stated in your list of requirements, except Herrity hasnt driven his company 30% in the hole, fimian has.
4. Being a county supervisor isnt the glamourous political elite job you think it is. Do you even know what a supervisor does. he deals with local issues that the average tax payer cares about. It would be nice to have a champion of local government in COngress who has actually gotten things done with the government (herrity), over someone like Fimian who doesnt know how to change the system for the better and instead just complains about how the big bad government is evil. Ok, fine, you have been around for years, why haven’t you done something about it already? Atleast Herrity has jumped in and serves the people.
5. Dont underestimate Connolly by saying that anyone can beat him. The political climate will determine who wins and loses. Connolly has union support and a strong machine behind him. He is a Fairfax institution that people know, so is Herrity. Fimian isnt and thats why Herrity has a much better shot against Connolly than Fimian. All politics is local and Herrity is a local guy, Fimian has a lot of money and NO local roots. That equals another loss.
Local GOP,
What are you talking about (sic)? You obviously don’t (sic) have a clue what you are talking about and are just a talking head that spits out talking points to support Davis.
You seem to be all about institutions and machine politics. That’s a problem and you seem to be one of its handmaidens. I’d rather beat Connolly’s machine with a citizen-based conservative movement, not just another machine. If you like machine-style politics, I hear real estate is cheap in Chicago.
As they say in the Navy, “That is all. Out.”
Wow Babe,
You Rock!
Babe,
Aside from saying over and over again herrity is apart of machine politics you offer no evidence of this, you dont answer the fact that Fimian was hand picked by the machine you claim to hate, and you all you do is attack people like tom davis who you dont think are conservative enough. your exclusionary style of politics is what leads to democrats winning elections and republicans losing. only a fool would allow gerry connolly to win an election because you want to cling to the hollow satisfaction that you you nominated the more ‘conservative’ candidate. Ok, congratulations you stuck it to the machine, oh too bad, cause connolly wins….again.
Prove herrity is apart of the machine, be my guest, you cant cause he’s not. stop your doom and gloom the establishment versus the grass roots non sense and get in the fight against the dems, cause thats all that is gonna stop obama care and a liberal agenda in washington.
Tom Davis and Pat Herrity? Never seen them together and they are nothing alike. I think Pat has the best shot of beating sleazeball Connelly and for that reason I support Pat’s candidacy.
Pretty simple, huh?
For Lovettesville Lady:
You can hang out with them both at a fundraiser tomorrow.

Wow Local GOP,
Nice rant!
And no one has shown that Herrity is apart of some political machine any more so than Fimian. Nothing more than rumor and conjecture that anti-establishment people try to stir up in hopes of creating controversy. So when two pople are at the same resutaurant supporting a republican candidate and helping them raise money they are apart of the ‘establishment’. well fimian went to herritys house for a private party, by your logic that makes him just as much apart of the establishment as herrity then. sorry, your arguments dont hold water.
This thread is a great example of why not to belong to the Republican Party here in northern Va.
It is interesting that in other parts of the state, the local GOP is no where near as divided as it is here in NoVa. It leads to the question of ‘why’ being asked.
