Dave Marsden: Running Out Of Fear
By Greg L | 2 January 2010 | Fairfax County, Virginia Senate | 2 Comments
Bwana concisely boils down Delegate Dave Marsden’s record as a legislator and his campaign for the 37th Senate District in this excellent post:
No substantive stands in four years in elected office;
No willingness to have his party take a stand, instead hoping to get power on the cheap without actually standing for anything;
Never saw a tax increase he didn’t like, but tries now to run as a fiscal conservative;
Claims he can protect Fairfax funding as a Senator despite never effectively doing so as a delegate;
Announces a desire for bi-partisan cooperation while attacking the GOP governor elect by name;
Embraces carpetbagging as a viable representative model for a citizen assembly;
Will only buy a home in his new district if he wins the special election-showing his true commitment to the Senate district;
By all appearances is running to protect his long term chances of serving in the legislature instead of a sincere desire to serve his constituents…in other words, he running out of fear.
If you have some time between now and the Special Election on January 12th, Steve Hunt could really use your help to beat back this blatant opportunist. Special elections are all about turnout, and volunteers are the only effective way to drive it. Spend a little time door knocking, calling voters, and working the polls and you’ll own a piece of the victory that will bring a solid conservative to the Senate of Virginia where far too few of those exist.

By your evaluation criteria, only Bob Marshall and a hand full of other legislators should be elected.
I agree that many politicians seem to just float along with the tide in the Assembly, but Dave Marsden is not one of them; at least not always. In some instances, NOT, enacting a new law IS the right thing to do.
For example, NOT enacting the “Regional Taxing Authorities” would have been the right thing to do.
In these next four years, NOT backing Bob McDonnell’s attempts to sell-off Virginia assets to multinational corporations, like TransUrban, or preventing Toll-road-Bob from adding TOLLs to our existing roads so that we can have the privilege of paying to drive on roads that we have already paid for.
I don’t expect Republicans and Democrats to huddle in a group hug on every issue, but Dave Marsden has a proven record of working across the aisle on issues of common interest to both Republicans and Democrats. Dave Marsden has a proven performance record on behalf of the citizens.
I am sure that the citizens would like to hear about Mr. Hunt’s positive characteristics and any constructive solutions that he is proposing. Will these two men have a public debate, so that the citizens can hear the ideas from both of these good citizens?
Marsden = carpetbagger.
