According to the Court Case Information System, no defense attorney is listed for any of the 3 cases and they have all been appealed.

Next up: Frenandez submits a request for a permit to operate a day-laborers site. Starts one without the permit. Makes a bunch of specious claims about the “racist process” and disbands the site right before his court date. Then he reorginizes the site, but has applied for a permit to have a cook-out. Has a cook-out every day for month, that contractors happen to frequent as if there was a drive thru. The day before his court date, he disbands the site.

Thumbs up for Judge Travers on his actions.

However, the fact that this took so long with so many chances given to the offender will not be much of a deterrent to the next one.

Perhaps if the true cost to the taxpayers for this entire episode were known, a demand for swifter action and resolution in such matters would get more attention.

I for one am actually pleasantly surprised by the fine. This is actully a very large fine for the charge. Many years ago as the Deputy Zoning Administrator for teh City was lucky to getr a few hundred dollars fine for zoning infrations. Even more surprising, the largest portion of the fine was for the building code issues which is highly unusual. I know a lot of people have been hard on the City for the time, but they actually played it right. Judges hate these cases and the City was able to demonstrate their history of working with the land owner which probably led to the larger fine.
