Anonymous said on 28 Jan 2010 at 8:53 pm: "And what about Chris Matthews saying after Obama’s speech, “I forgot he was black for an hour.” Saying that is just horrible."

As I have said, MANY times, when political correctness TRUMPS the truth, we're all in BIG TROUBLE!

But then, some people don't concern themselves with the truth anymore, it's more fun to cause trouble for the person who was being HONEST???!!!???!!!

Military_guy,

What gets to me is that when the Marines or Soldiers defend themselves by returning fire against the enemy they run the risk of being court marshaled by armchair superiors who probably never were in combat.

Then, of course, you have that newsman - think it was a CNN operative (filthy rat) - and the Pa. Congressman who got into act by adding their lies. Made it very difficult and very expensive for those Marines to defend themselves. Good thing that the Thomas Moore Law Center helped some of them.

Now there a case where an army soldier - Officer, I think - is being charged for defending himself. And, as usual, the Upper Echelon is hell bent on destroying him.

On the COL stuff - I think they compare the third quarters of the CPI. Meaning that for 2011, they will compare the 3rd. quarter of 2010 to the 3rd. quarter of 2009. If there is an increase, then there should be an increase in benefits for 2011. But, I am not well versed in this area, so there may be other factors which may have an impact on whether there is an increase in benefits.

well thanks all for the support,

interestingly enough there is no COLA (Cost of Living) increase this year for military retiree's either and their likely wont be any next year. For those that believe that government should not get raises (including military) then you should pick up a weapon and hit the front lines. 1.4 is a pittance and remember, military members are ALWAYS on duty 24/7/365 so when you add it up, our pay is pretty paltry. Always nice to know that for all the people we have supporting the military these days, there are still some in the backfield who dont. So long_time when you hit the roads in your 9-5 job, I'll still be either working or on call...24/7/365.

I don't care WHAT the "bean counters" in Washington say, EVERYTHING is getting more expensive!

Look at these BLOOD SUCKERS (Dale Service) up here in Dale City raising the (waste) water rates!

Do you know that it costs MORE money to flush your toilet than it does to turn on the faucet, at the kitchen sink, and get a DRINK?

And for WHAT?

So they can add a few more CORVETTES to their collection?

All due respect, and I agree with much that you say, but as someone who donned a uniform and picked up a rifle for this country in the past your dismissal of the concerns of this member of the armed forces is a bit off base.

Job security for him is contingent on surviving his next mission. More than any other kind of public servant, members of our armed forces risk their lives as a core function of the job they perform for us and shoulder dangers that far exceed anything anyone else is ever called to do, beyond that of police and first responders, beyond anything any other government employee ever would have to face. When they tell this guy "move out and draw fire" (essentially "go run out there and make them try to kill you so we can do something important here") there's no amount of pay raises that could ever compensate for that.

Of course we could never adequately compensate these heroes for what they do for us. As a result, we can only pay them what we can afford, which isn't much, all considered. Handing them a nearly meaningless token of appreciation like this during a time when we're in active combat is deeply disturbing, and has no bearing on the bloated bureaucracy in Washington or the lavish pay some of these REMFs pocket.

Military guy; we appreciate your valor, integrity and service! Unfortunately I have too many friends unemployed. I have a very hard time feeling sorry for any Government servant getting a "low pay raise" when they enjoy 100% job security.

What we need is leadership from BOTH parties. Key things:

Reduced Government payroll - the average american wage is in around 40K and the average government emnployee makes somethinhg like 60K. And we keep hiring more Feds to run the country...

A real immigration bill holding illegal aliens AND people who employ illegal aliens accountable

A way to tax all the illegal income/transactions; wire transfers to latin America, the barter system, and people working for cash. At least the illegal alien getting paid cash still has to pay the car tax

A national understanding that the United States of America is not the defense force and welfare provider for the rest of the world. A slight shift back to isolationism wouldn't be all bad

On the illegals - Remember that the President wants to give them amnesty!

No doubt the illegals that were in gangs like MS-13 will be recruited for positions with ACORN.

Or they can take over from the new "black panther" party and be poll watchers in Philly.

Just Sayin' on 28 Jan 2010 at 10:23 am:

JS - Before you start casting stones.......

Information compiled from the Washington Post, “Congressional Sex Scandals in History,” and other sources.

10. Sen. Daniel Inouye. The 82-year-old Hawaii Democrat was accused in the 1990s by numerous women of sexual harassment. Democrats cast doubt on the allegations and the Senate Ethics Committee dropped its investigation.

9. Former Rep. Gus Savage. The Illinois Democrat was accused of fondling a Peace Corps volunteer in 1989 while on a trip to Africa. The House Ethics Committee decided against disciplinary action in 1990.

8. Rep. Barney Frank. The outspoken Massachusetts Democrat hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.

7. Former Sen. Brock Adams. The late Washington Democrat was forced to stop campaigning after numerous accusations of drugging, assault and rape, the first surfacing in 1988.

6. Former Rep. Fred Richmond. This New York Democrat was arrested in 1978 for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old. He remained in Congress and won re-election—before eventually resigning in 1982 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and drug possession.

5. Former Rep. John Young. The late Texas Democrat increased the salary of a staffer after she gave in to his sexual advances. The congressman won re-election in 1976 but lost two years later.

4. Former Rep. Wayne Hays. The late Ohio Democrat hired an unqualified secretary reportedly for sexual acts. Although he resigned from Congress, the Democratic House leadership stalled in removing him from the Administration Committee in 1976.

3. Former Rep. Gerry Studds. He was censured for sexual relationship with underage male page in 1983. Massachusetts voters returned him to office for six more terms.

JS - Before you start casting stones…….

2. Former Rep. Mel Reynolds. The Illinois Democrat was convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault with a 16-year-old. President Bill Clinton pardoned him before leaving office.

1. Sen. Teddy Kennedy. The liberal Massachusetts senator testified in defense of nephew accused of rape, invoking his family history to win over the jury in 1991.

The President sure can give a great speech! Of course, he can also give great deficets, unemployment, and unfulfilled promises!

He sure as hell would be "lost" without his teleprompters. Ever listen to him talk without one? A 5th grader could do better!

I'm a republican so don't think I'm supporting Edwards as I'm absolutely not. But you're making a big issue over Edwards and his sex life as a democrat. It would also seem that no side of the coin is immune to sex scandals as we republicans have seen our fair share over the years. None are perfect.

"Real people received the speech very positively." Who, may I ask, are real people? Who are you to judge who is "real" or not? Another supposed "educated intellectual", looking down upon the great unwashed, deigning to tell us what we should believe? Maybe you should explain it better. After all, we're not "real". Elitist.
