I STILL say that there is SOMETHING Peacor knows about all the DIRTY DEALINGS in this county and THAT is that she used as leverage to get this job!!!!!

There should be a FEDERAL investigation!!!!!

Peacor said “I promise to serve the Board and the community to the best of my ability, to work through this organization as we improve our transparency and accountability...”

That's GREAT!!!

Let's start out with a GREAT BIG LIE!!!!!

All who have posted here, against this ATROCITY, should DEMAND and NOT GIVE UP until we receive a FEDERAL INVESTIGATION into discriminatory practices in the Prince William County Government under Peacor's "watchful" eye!!! (Starting with Wally Jabs being FIRED by Peacor because he DID HIS JOB according to County Policy!!!!!)

At the VERY LEAST, Stewart and company have proven that the LAZINESS and INCOMPETENCE starts at the TOP !!!!

Funny you should mention CLOWNS.

When I worked for this county, I used to joke around with one of the assistant superintendents.

One day I told him that working "here" was a CHILDHOOD DREAM come true!

He didn't know what I meant so I explained that, "When I was little, I used to dream about running away with the CIRCUS and that there were SO MANY FREAKIN' CLOWNS around here that it felt like a childhood dream come true!"

BIG BIG MISTAKE FOR STEWART--REALLY REALLY DUMB MOVE. Guess Stewart and Peacor can work together for many years to come. Neither seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Career ending move for both.

From Benton
"Personality seems to be the main issue here - not to pull the female card - but we aren’t dealing with “women are aggressive while men are assertive - men can be ambitious but women are pushy” are we? Perhaps not. We will see. "

Having personally worked with Ms. Peacor on County projects and issues in the past, I don't believe the "female card" is the issue. Unfortunately it is, from my perspective, the old adage of - my way or the highway. She has the tendency to push forward on projects based on what she wants oftentimes not "looking outside the box" or really listening to others whose expertise may exceed her own. There are many occasions when she has forced staff to complete projects that were known to be failures by those who would be affected by them.. DRIVE is an example.

Melissa is an intelligent woman and I do not take that away from her.
It is how she uses that intelligence behind the scenes that I do question.

I have no personal grudge against Melissa and no personal grudge against PWC as a whole. Just stating it as I experienced it.

I still maintain that we need a fresh perspective coming in as County Executive. Someone who embraces our Vision and yet can find and remedy our weaknesses.

BristowB- other than personal attacks for apparent poor performance/non performance there doesn't seem to be much here except the fact that she worked for Gerhardt. There were, I believe, TWO Deputies under Gerhardt. In the fiscal document it shows Peacor over HR/Budget/Training and other smaller agencies. From what I can see OIT reported directly to Gerhardt. (My experience in private industry provides me with the knowledge that such things occur on a regular basis, however, it's too expensive to prosecute so like vultures those people move from one organization to another - that only adds to the causitive factors that permitted this to happen.)

I've seen her at BOCS meetings, certainly her "intellectual acumen" is clearly apparent, that was also challenged at some point. She appears to be a straight shooter, disagreeing with Supervisors with facts. Personality seems to be the main issue here - not to pull the female card - but we aren't dealing with "women are aggressive while men are assertive - men can be ambitious but women are pushy" are we? Perhaps not. We will see.

However, we are in total agreement regarding the comprehensive plan. This is a county that relies on a volunteer fire department! I'd say there is some catching up to do from the BOCS from the 80's 90's - it was a horrible watching that unfold, as if no one on the dias could see beyond the next week. But that was all BOCS not staff. PWC has a lot to do to overcome that mess and the comprehensive plan is key to the future.

Being a former County employee, I can understand some of your frustrations but have to say that Barking at Benton is not furthering your cause."

BB, it takes TWO to TANGO !!!!

Case in point: benton said on 31 Jan 2010 at 3:23 pm: "No, I’m your ex-wife."

AND

In case you missed THIS, directed at ME, from another thread:

benton said on 27 Jan 2010 at 6:51 pm: "OMG - exactly which medicine(s) have the all the local CVS pharmacies run out of this week?"

So, BB, get ALL your facts straight before GETTING ON ME!!!!!

All I'm doing is RETURNING the sentiment!!!!

As far as BASHING the county, at least I'm HONEST enough to admit, yes, IT'S PERSONAL!!!!!

And FINALLY: BristowBristling said on 1 Feb 2010 at 9:37 am: "I thank you for your insights and information but am being turned off on your negative remarks on individuals who post here."

You're even MORE confused if you think I'm here to TURN YOU
ON???!!!???!!!

Patty, thank you for your kind words but I don’t begrudge anyone who didn’t ask me to apply for the job. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience serving as Assistant County Executive in a jurisdiction larger than PWC or as County Executive in a somewhat smaller jurisdiction. I don’t have such experience.

In addition to bringing that experience, the new County Executive should also be someone who would bring fresh perspectives and have no counterproductive relationships with current senior staff and special interests. The person should offer a reputation of strong ethics, serving all members of their community in a fair, unbiased manner, and an ability to work well with all others in their organization.

At least as concerning as the likely choice the BOCS might make on the new County Executive is the Comprehensive Plan update they will consider. The version coming before the BOCS tomorrow is written by and for development interests. Planning Commission Chair Gary Friedman has been advocating his Commission’s version. I hope sincerely the BOCS will defer consideration of the update so the Planning Commission version can come forward for consideration. The version being considered tomorrow will open up the entire County, including the Rural Crescent, to whatever developers want to do.

If you consider taxes, and congestion on the roads and in the schools bad now, you have no idea what will be coming your way in the near future if the BOCS approves the version of the Comprehensive Plan update coming before it tomorrow.

Because of a long-planned professional commitment I will not be able to speak at Citizens Time tomorrow as I did on Avendale, but hope that everyone who is available will come and let the BOCS know their views on our County’s senior leadership, and future development.

Being a former County employee, I can understand some of your frustrations but have to say that Barking at Benton is not furthering your cause. It is actually causing me to wonder if your agenda is just to Bash the County and anyone who offers an opposing opinion. Giving good, solid information and passing on data is great. Even correcting misinformation is great. It is informative and gives us all something to think about and even query our Board members on. I thank you for your insights and information but am being turned off on your negative remarks on individuals who post here.

I agree with all those who have spoken out about Peacor being a poor choice. She does not represent PWC well internally with her county employee interaction. DRIVE (and other programs she was intimately involved with ) have been costly disasters. Her public appearances are also not what I would consider to be what PWC would like to project.

Am I the only one thinking, this FOOL has convinced himself that just because HE doesn't believe something, it isn't true?

Really benton, it's MUCH easier to READ when your HEAD isn't in such a VERY dark place!

And if you could get your LIPS off Peacor's BUTT, maybe you wouldn't MIS-speak so much?

You've GOT to be either related to Peacor or working for her?

If you WORK for her, do you think what on Monday, when you show her how you're DEFENDING her, she'll give you a nice little PAT on the HEAD?

I believe that 7 counts were already dismissed or combined making it 41 counts. If I am wrong, I stand corrected. However, 41 vs. 48 don’t change the facts that this terrible chain of events happened under Peacor watch. It is nice that Peacor takes credit for everything that went right under Gerhart's reign but conveniently doesn't have anything to do with those actions or criminal acts that occurred at the same time. The captain and his XO take responsibility for all activity on their ship (even if they were not on duty at the time). As Ricardo used to say "Lucy you have some explaining to do" but in this case it seems that Peacor has a lot of explaining to do. She should not get the position until she has explained everything fully and stop hiding behind confidential doors and procedures.

Benton- Peacor was the Deputy and therefore was second in charge of those departments. The department heads often reported to Peacor then to Gerhart. She cannot claim that she is merely a private citizen being vilified here as you wrote. She is applying for a public profile position of trust and that requires public scrutiny. If she can take the heat then get out of the kitchen.

This bad decision is not only bad for possible hiring Peacor due to her errors in the past but also for Stewart allowing it to happen. Even if the votes are not there to block her hiring he should still fight against it. He certainly has led the fight many times before why not this time? I can only assume that he is leading the charge to hire Peacor because he doesn't want to or can't find another candidate. Both are flimsy excuses. I think the voters might hold a few accountable for this very very bad decision.
