Eric Cantor: Balancing Good And Evil

By Greg L | 1 February 2010 | Illegal Aliens, Virginia Politics, US Congress | 2 Comments

Representative Eric Cantor is sending out the usual appeals for campaign contributions, prompting a few folks to poke around to determine whether he’s truly worthy of their support rather than the numerous other candidates and organizations that are begging for their hard-earned dollars.  When they come across statements like this one, nothing is going to make them slam their wallet closed any faster.

It is imperative that government strikes the right balance between maximizing US competitiveness and encouraging employers to hire US citizens. (Rep. Eric Cantor, from a letter to a constituent)

So what exactly is the “right balance” here?  Many read a statement like this to mean that if the National Chamber of Commerce, which is steadfastly opposed to any measures that might make it even slightly more difficult for unscrupulous businesses to profit by unlawfully employing illegal aliens.  Sure, we can be globally competitive with this modern-day equivalent of indentured servitude by employing cheap illegal alien labor.  Business will boom, particularly for large-scale agribusiness and construction companies.

Meanwhile, we increase domestic unemployment, saddle the state and Virginia’s localities with a net $1.7 billion worth of costs, and install a whole bunch of second class “citizens”, who separated by language and custom from the rest of us tend to live out an existence many of us would find utterly deplorable and chock-filled with gang warfare, drugs, and abuse of the worst kinds.  I’ve never heard of “striking the right balance” between the need for MS-13 members to enjoy “free association” and ensuring bloodthirsty gang-bangers aren’t running rampant in our streets, at least not from Republicans.  But when it affects the opportunity for Toll Brothers or Smithfield Foods to pay below-market wages and employ illegal alien labor, then we start hearing about “balancing” things.

I guess that leaves folks to wonder whether Rep. Cantor is co-sponsoring the Instate Tuition Act, The Birthright And Citizenship Act, or the SAVE Act, striking a balance so to speak between tolerating lawlessness and upholding the rule of law?  Not so much.  They’re going to be disappointed.

And lending their financial support elsewhere, most likely.

There is no balance between good and evil, there is only choice. Cantor should make the right choice, otherwise I’ve no use for him as an elected official.

Seeking balance between the rule of law and lawlessness is utterly pathetic stupidity.

If Cantor is your flag bearer then you are in trouble.
