The NAACP Sells Out

By Greg L | 6 February 2010 | National Politics | 9 Comments

One of the organizations I’ve always held respect for has been the NAACP.  Not that I always agreed with them, sometimes I’ve disagreed with them rather strongly, but given their history and record of accomplishment they’d always get a pass from me.  They could be forgiven what I perceived as occasional mistakes or misunderstandings.  In the end they’d get it right, and all would be fine, I believed.  That attitude in me is now forever gone as the great traditions and hard-fought wins of the NAACP were thrown away this week so it could become a member organization of the DNC.  W. E. B. Du Bois must be spinning in his grave.

The NAACP issued it’s “Civil Rights Federal Legislative Scorecard” in January, issuing a solid “F” grade to every Republican Congressman in Virginia.  That seemed rather odd to me, so I decided read the report and figure out how it is that Republicans all get “F” grades and Democrats generally range between an “A” and a “C” grade.  As is typical with a non-profit organization issuing a legislative scorecard, they select a series of votes, determine what vote would better serve the organization, and then score the legislators according to how often they voted “correctly.” This is pretty common, and somewhat dictated by the requirements of the IRS Code that restricts political activity by non-profit and charitable organizations and requires at least the cover of objectivity when issuing legislative scorecards.

The stated mission of the NAACP, as it appears on their website, is to “ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”  If that actually is their mission, you’d figure that every piece of legislation used to score Congress would directly relate to their mission, otherwise their mission is actually something different than what they say it is.

So let’s take a look at some of the legislation they are using to score these Congressmen.

Now there’s plenty more of these votes that plenty of folks could disagree with, but they at least tangentially have something to do with the stated mission of the NAACP.  But can anyone tell me why it supposedly would be an important priority for the NAACP to see Hillary Clinton confirmed as Secretary of State, and then sic their membership on any legislators that might have opposed that nomination?  What the hell does Hillary Clinton being Secretary of State have to do with “eliminating racial hatred and racial discrimination?”  Utterly nothing.

So no surprise that Republicans are universallly graded an “F”, given this list of DNC priorities that often have nothing whatsoever do do with the stated mission of the NAACP, and much of which is arguably inimical to the interests of their membership.  There’s nothing on this list about reducing the crushing public debt we are amassing at an astounding rate that will inevitably harm economic growth in the future.  There’s no a word about improving educational opportunities for inner city youth with voucher programs, or reducing the number of illegal aliens in the country which is proven to depress wages and job opportunities for service industry, and unskilled and manual laborers.  And when it comes to the most effective means of preventing crime, which plagues African-Americans much more than any other demographic group, the NAACP seeks to restrict Second Amendment rights rather than embrace them.

Just how does the NAACP think many lynchings were prevented in the deep south so long ago?  By keeping African-Americans from the means of defending themselves?  Hell no.  Those firearms the NAACP so detests saved countless lives.  Or how about the disproportionate impact of abortion on Africa-Americans?  The founder of “Planned Parenthood” Margaret Sanger herself publicly expressed concerns that the public not find out that one of her goals was to prevent African-Americans from having children.

“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” [Margaret Sanger] said, “if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” Woman’s Body, Woman’s Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon

Now the NAACP fully participates in this eugenics project of abortion on demand and even promotes the idea of African-Americans killing their unborn infants at rates far above any other demographic group in America.  Don’t they care that the original goal of the abortionists was to help implode the population of (as Margaret Sanger put it) “human weeds” and “reckless breeders” so that a purer race of human beings would ultimately prevail?

If I were a member of the NAACP I would be furious that this organization has tossed away their independence and their dedication to their core mission by devolving into nothing more than an arm of the DNC.  If the NAACP is going to sell out African-Americans in order to align with the DNC, even when their goals are utterly inconsistent, just who is going to be left to advocate for them?

Quick and rather obvious answer, worthy of expounding on at a later date: The Republican Party, the one that helped free African-Americans from slavery.  That’s who’s left.

No longer will I give the NAACP a pass.  They used to be a great organization deserving of respect and admiration, but they’ve chosen to throw that all away.  Now they leverage a legacy they have no interest in maintaining just to become the arm of a faction of one political party in order to obtain the fleeting trappings of political power, and deserve to be mocked and derided for it.

The next time they decide to host a debate between candidates for office while touting themselves as “non-partisan”, I’m going to urge the Republican candidate to decline on the principle that the organization is a sham and entirely unworthy of the respect they’d gain from the event.  Republicans should universally shun the NAACP until such time it actually demonstrates some capability to actually adhere to their own charter.  There’s no reason for an arm of the DNC to play any formal or informal “non-partisan” role in our elections, and no one should stand for it.

The NAACP, La Raza, ADL and the Klan are all race-based organizations whose only purpose is to line the pockets of their senior leadership. Nobody elected them to represent their respective races. (Note: The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) represents the Jews, but there remains an ongoing disagreement among Jewish people if Jews are a race, or just a religion.)

While Americans still have the freedom to associate with any groups, even the race-based ones like the NAACP, it is long past the time for people to find more constructive things to do with their time and money.

Someone who is a member of the NAACP should receive the same amount of social disapproval as members of other race-based groups. Membership in such groups says that the person places his or her race ahead of those of their neighbors and that, to them, race is still paramount. While the rest of us work with associations that serve the entire community, those who support race-based groups are clearly giving the rest of society the finger and saying, “I will take care of my own race and screw the rest of you people.”

In spite of the propaganda offered by the NAACP, their bottom line is that they want race-based hiring quotas, special race-based set-asides for business and an endless supply of race-based patronage jobs in government and industry. If they don’t get their way, they are always eager to resort to extortion and threatening various boycotts.

The funny thing about their boycotts is, that recent efforts have actually improved business for those companies and cities who were targets of the NAACP’s race-baiting and extortion programs.

The NAACP can’t sell out. They have nothing left to sell. But, they can continue to operate like a protection racket. The threat is that if you don not kneel in fear and grant spoils, they will brand you a racist.

Well, they’ve played that card for so long and so often, that we are all racists now. A race card is a terrible thing to waste. As Rahm might say, that’s effing retarded.

So I click to their web page and download the report card. Before my neck got tired I kind of saw what you are talking about but I am not setting my monitor on it’s side to read the rest.
Honestly, they need to talk to who ever set that up on their web page.

“Preventing funding for DC Charter Schools”

Did you mean charter schools or the voucher program (or both)?

No, charter schools. Had the NAACP weighed in about voucher programs in DC that would inevitably help African-Americans more than any other demographic group, I doubt they would have been very supportive.

I noticed that there are no grades given at all for votes concerning voucher programs. You’d think if they really cared about their constituency, this would be a top priority. That would mean they oppose the agenda of labor unions, which I suppose they care about more.

Doesn’t surprise me a bit. Just as the DNC has been hijacked by leftists, so has the NAACP, AARP, NOW and many special-interest groups that target a specific demographic. Divide and conquer is a marxist tactic and these groups have developed a decidedly marxist flavor since 1972.

Note to Grover Leoning: The ADL does not speak for me. They are so far left, they won’t even step up to the plate to be critical of this administration and the less than stellar choices made by Obummer and his attitudes toward Israel. As for the race/religion issue - being Jewish is both a religion and a culture. One is born into a race - white, black, Hispanic, etc. But a religion can be chosen as can a culture also be adopted. Mexican Jews are both Jewish by religion and Hispanic by race, as an example. Jewish people, as with just about any religious order, can be of any race whether they are born into the faith or have chosen the faith.
