Son Of Snowpocalypse?

As if we really needed another bout of snow, the National Weather Service is predicting between seven and fourteen more inches of snow to fall between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening, accompanied by fairly strong winds that will cause drifting and visibility problems, particularly on Wednesday. While a lot of kids will be happy for some extra winter wonderland, those of us who will have to find new and creative places to move this additional snow will likely be less enthused, especially since AlGore isn’t going to help us shovel it to make up for foisting this “global warming” hoax on us.In Prince William County snow removal is going to be much more difficult for this snowstorm as it was this past weekend. There’s no place to plow the additional snow after light-duty plows have pushed up hard, high berms along the narrow lanes they’ve cleared. Larger equipment, to the extent it is available, can’t get onto the side streets to cut back the walls of snow that have been formed and the smaller plows don’t have the ability to push snow much above the height of the walls they’ve already made. If there’s nowhere to put it, plowing snow is an illusory solution at best.
The smarter, more difficult option isn’t to plow at all now, but to let the snow get packed down by vehicle traffic on everything other than major arteries and snow emergency routes. Lots of folks won’t like it too much, but it will actually cause fewer problems and be far more cost effective than to try to pay the companies the county and state have contracted with to manage secondary roads to engage in a pretty futile battle with the snow. You can spend a lot of money to have plows try to fruitlessly push snow around in an attempt to have it pile over and beyond an existing snow bank and get little results for the effort and expense. Since we couldn’t widen the plowed lanes before this hit, giving us space for more accumulation to be piled, we’re simply out of good options here.
Watch out for your neighbors, get those shovels ready, and remember that spring really isn’t all that far away.
Now for the details…
A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TUESDAY TO 7 PM EST WEDNESDAY.
* PRECIPITATION TYPE…SNOW.
* ACCUMULATIONS…7 TO 14 INCHES.
* TIMING…MID-AFTERNOON TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY. MODERATE SNOW RATES WILL OCCUR TUESDAY NIGHT…AND HEAVY SNOW IS

* WINDS…LIGHT SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS TUESDAY BECOMING NORTH-NORTHWESTERLY 15 TO 25 MPH WEDNESDAY.

Sue Palka said on the channel 5 news last night that the reason we are getting so much snow is because of the El Nino effect that causes more snowfall than normal. I’m getting tired of shoveling so much snow and am just focusing on the warmer, sunny days of spring and summer and thinking about going swimming in our town house association pool.
I enjoyed looking at your pictures of snow scenes. Maybe you could submit them to a photography contest or send them in for one of the news channels.

I’m SURE this is a by-product of all this weather but, lately I find myself more concerned with the LOW temperatures, on the weather channels, than the HIGHS!!!
I just came in from TRYING to make room for the snow from the NEXT BLAST !!!
Has anyone noticed the complete absence of the “community organizers” mobilizing shoveling brigades? Helping their neighbors? Showing up in other neighbor hoods (like they did to harass bank employees) to help out?
Thats because they are rabble rousing scum and should be called on this.
Where is obama’s organize America?
Where, Barry? Whats the matter - your goons can only show up to stuff ballots and take checks?
It is starting to snow already here in PWC, little tiny flakes that mean we are going to get slammed. I’d like to know where the tow trucks are that are not towing idiots that have parked their cars wherever on the streets at least four to five feet away from the curb since they are too lazy to shovel themselves a spot after they got out of their spot in the first place. They are affecting the jobs the plows can do.
Question of the day:
Would Obummer know how to use a snow shovel?
Does anyone have an update on the possibly collasping roof at Mayfield Intermediate School? I read the story last night in the N&M, but cannot find any follow up…my kids go to there so I am pretty interested to find out the status of the situation.
City Mom,
You may want to check the News & Messenger
website - a story went up less than an hour ago about Mayfield.
Apparently the school may be closed for some weeks while
repairs are made to repair damage to the roof caused by
the recent heavy snow. Imagine an official statement
will be issued by MCPS’s soon.
And the cops won’t tow cars that are left in the road on the streets near where I live. They shovel themselves out and then when they get home they don’t get into that spot they park beside it, clogging the roads further for the pisspoor plows that are in this county. I called the non emergency number and spoke to a dispatcher about the problem with the cars and she said they are overwhelmed. I’m done ranting…
Sam: In the words of the late, great American patriot Ed McMahon, “you are correct, sir!” These communist organizers should be organizing their children to go out and EARN some MONEY by offering to shovel people’s driveways, clean off cars, etc. G-d help me for using this phrase, but, back in my day, (because THIS is still my day!) there used to be young folks competing to get such gigs.
On the other hand, the only saving grace to these blizzards, and quite frankly, spring training can’t come soon enough, is that for every day the government is shut down Congress can’t spend OUR money. Let THEM shovel out the Capitol. I’d like to see Pelosi with a shovel. Usually we see her with her broom.
OK folks, stay warm and check on your elderly neighbors and single parents with infants. If you must drive, G-dspeed.
Michelle Obama is shoveling … something that starts with s…

Why are the county police NOT enforcing the snow emergency by having the cars that are still parked (since the last storm) and buried in snow towed as they are supposed to be by law? These vehicles are hampering the plows. Take a trip up and down Sudley Manor drive and see what I mean. Another thing the police should be doing is stopping the vehicles that are on the roads and have two or more feet of snow piled up on the roofs and their windows covered in snow. A definite public safety hazzard. Another thing that should be enforced but is not is the law that requires a vehicle’s headlights to be turned on when the windshield wipers are on. This law has been on the books for at least 15 years but is never enforced. I have seen police cars with their lights off during blinding rain storms. Real fun during a “whiteout.”
we saw a car driving down the road with three feet of snow on top….what an idiot!!!! you are right - it’s a safety hazzard!
