For many of you, the response may be, “Who cares” or “They didn’t have specialty schools when I was in school, why should they now?” In response, this is the one thing that sets PWCS apart from any other N. Virginia school, or most schools in the country for that matter. At this point the County is not even considering providing a “pay for transportation” plan, which would at least be a viable alternative.

These programs have brought excitement to many students who totally lack enthusiasm with regards to their education. In addition, this is at least in part, a program of real School Choice. If you know of anyone with kids in the Specialty programs, please let then know about these cuts. For those interested in taking action, see below:

The Prince William County School Board will hold a public hearing on the Superintendent’s Proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Budget and Capital Improvements Program at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 1 in the auditorium of Stonewall Jackson High School. Stonewall Jackson High School is located at 8820 Rixlew Lane, Manassas.

Citizens may sign up to speak at the public hearing through the School Board Clerk’s Office until noon on March 1 by calling 703.791.8709 or by emailing dentaj@pwcs.edu. Citizens may also sign up on March 1 at the entrance to the Stonewall Jackson High School auditorium door from 5 p.m. until 5:55 p.m. Citizens must sign up by these deadlines in order to speak. Each speaker will have up to two minutes to make comments.

The budget public hearing previously scheduled for February 8 was canceled because of a snowstorm.

A budget work session will be held following the Board’s public meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3. A special work session for final markup on the budget is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 following the School Board’s regular meeting which will begin at 7 p.m.

The School Board has rescheduled its vote on the Superintendent’s Proposed FY 2011 Budget and Capital Improvements Program from March 17 to a special meeting on March 24. That meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the School Board meeting room in the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, and will be broadcast live on PWCS-TV, Comcast Channel 18 and Verizon Channel 36.

I know the relative anonymity of blog identities can make it difficult to understand who we’re actually talking to here, but making assumptions like this can come back to haunt you. It’s better in some cases to just assume we’re talking to the biggest community assets around, because often we are.

As far as why you should worship God, I just pray the Holy Spirit works in you as it has in me and helps lead you to a life with more meaning, a higher purpose, and solid answers about life you’re not going to find elsewhere. If you’ve got such fundamental questions rattling around unanswered, I feel for you. I’ve been there, and it gnawed on me continuously.

Why do we have to worship ANYBODY? Live your life so that you can look yourself in the mirror without cringing (except for all the wrinkles, of course).

Help your neighbor shovel snow, cut their lawn if needed, bathe often enough so as not to have BO, use your turn signal at any and all turns, left or right, don’t breath on people after eating garlicky food and especially not after smoking.

And, Anonymous, I’ll let you rejoice in your sufferings. If they’ve made you a better person, rejoice even more. But, please, do not inflict suffering on other people in order give them perseverance and character. Please!

As for Bob Marshall —–I’m speechless!

I know for a fact that abortions can cause infertility… not in every case but in quite a number of them. I have friends who had abortions and I’ve listened to testimonies from women who had aboritons. Not only is a baby’s life terminated but there is physical trauma to the mother…also emotional. I know some of you would disagree but there is also emotional trauma to the father especially later.

As far as God, punishment and the Bible goes…..we live in a sin corrupted world. I’ll repeat that: WE LIVE IN A SIN CORRUPTED WORLD. Just the fact that one day you will die is proof of that. When Adam and Eve decided to have life without God they brought sin into the world. Just as there are consequences when God’s physical laws of nature are broken (ex. gravity) there are consequences when God’s moral laws are broken. We reap the consequences when we sin, when someone sins against us and just by living in a sin corrupted world. It’s like pollution.

I believe Greg was quoting from Deuteronomy 5:9 (in reference to Moses repeating the 10 commandments to the children of Israel; specifically about worshipping idols, i.e. worshipping something other than the true God): “‘You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,”

The key words are “those who hate Me.” Everyone is repsonsible to God for their own sin. How often I’ve seen children pick up and do the same sins as their parents. That’s what happens when God is not in their life. So God is only “visiting the iniquity” (consequences) on those who hate Him who have picked up and repeated the rebellious sins of their parents.

In one sense Leah was right when quoting John 9:3. Let’s go a little further with John 9:1-5: As He (Jesus) passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the LIght of the world.” Jesus healed many to show that He was sent by God and that He is the Son of God, God in the flesh. The blind man was blind because as I said before it is due to living in a sin polluted world. Jesus came to save us from our sins and to forgive us. He demonstrated that by healing people.

Also, none of us are righteous. Adam and Eve died spirtually when they chose life (really death) apart from God. Spiritually dead people can not have spiriturally alive children; so we inherited a rebellious sin nature. None of us is righteous in God’s eyes. But God in His mercy and grace sent His Son Jesus to take our sins upon Himself and die on a cross to pay for them because He loves us very much (John 3:16)! The God/man Jesus Christ took all of our sins and paid for them Himself so that we can have eternal life and so we can be with Him forever… where there will be no more tears, no more suffering, no more disease and no more death (Revelation21:3-5). That is Good News!!!
