Bolognese Takes To The Air

By Greg L | 25 February 2010 | Fairfax County, Virginia House | 5 Comments

Kerry Bolognese is going on air with this ad in the final week of his campaign in a special election in the 41st House District that will be held on Tuesday. I’d be interested to hear what readers thought of it.

Yes, it does remind the base that there is an upcoming election, it highlights the big government/socialist agenda at the federal level, but he’s not running for the US Congress.

One could conclude by inference, that he’s a fiscal conservative but his video doesn’t say a lot (nothing in fact) about his position on anything. If I were in the 41st District, I’d kinda like to know his position on issues that affect me and how he would support my views and needs, e.g., the budget (Va) transportation, education, and job creation.

I hope he wins; we need another Republican in the HOD, but I certainly think a campaign video oriented toward the issues that affect his District and the state of Virginia would have been more effective.

The reason I ask here is that I produce website videos and on occasion TV commercials as well (hence the frequent BeehiveSites.com ads on BVBL). I like to learn from other producers, especially when their style is a lot different than mine. This one seemed to take some risks and I wasn’t sure whether they worked or not. Getting the impressions of others on this is helpful the next time I script a commercial and might be interested in going in this direction.

I agree that it’s great to link your opponent with unpopular national figures. However, it does not say what Bolognese is FOR, especially if it means that he is FOR popular measures supported by Gov. McDonnell (who has a high approval rating). Maybe McDonnell should be in an ad.

On a somewhat related subject, are there any debates scheduled, or have there been any debates between the 41st District candidates? Bolognese came to Filler-Corn’s congregation to debate Marsden during last fall’s election, so it would be ironic (and embarassing) if Filler-Corn ducked debates now. (Eileen Filler-Corn helped get Marsden to come to that debate as well.)

Related to this special electon, I just published http://www.examiner.com/x-2782-DC-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2010m2d26-Radical-antigun-candidate-flying-under-radar-in-Virginia-special-election

[Eileen] Filler-Corn . . . received endorsements from Jim Brady, represented Handgun Control, Inc., and served as the vice-president and legislative chairman of the Northern Virginia chapter of the Million Mom March. . . . Filler-Corn declared: “Every person is at risk from a citizen carrying guns in malls, movie theaters, restaurants and on highways.”

Please post this link in interesting places around Virginia’s blogoshere :)
