Administration Ceases Most Immigration Enforcement

By Greg L | 23 March 2010 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens | 26 Comments

Roll Call outlines how the Obama Administration has virtually ceased enforcing our nation’s immigration laws in many respects, giving illegal aliens what amounts to a “virtual amnesty” for illegals as long as they haven’t committed a felony.  I can’t say such a turn of events is unexpected from these folks.

The statistics don’t lie. Last year, ICE’s noncriminal illegal immigration arrests during work site enforcement operations declined 68 percent and trickled down to a mere 24 arrests this January. Over the same time period, work site enforcement arrests for criminals also declined by 60 percent to just 20 in the month of January. Similarly, work site enforcement indictments and convictions are down 58 percent and 63 percent respectively over this time frame. Meanwhile, ICE reports that it has 3,800 detention beds that are empty, for the first time in years, although there are about 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States .

Read more here.  It’s thoroughly disgusting. Just when there are millions of Americans out of work, the Administration is actually giving illegal aliens caught in workplace enforcement raids visas so they can legally work.

Here’s an interesting editorial by Frank Morris, former Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus that appeared recently in the Washington Times:

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) recently made the trip down Pennsylvania Avenue for a chat with a former member of the caucus, President Obama. According to news reports, it was not an entirely happy reunion.

Like just about everyone else, it seems, the CBC has its own list of grievances with the man in the White House. Chief among the concerns of black lawmakers is the president’s failure to address a black unemployment rate that far exceeds that of the general population. Sixteen percent of black workers are unemployed, and among black teens, a staggering 44.9 percent are out of work.
There is ample blame to be laid at the White House door, but the 43 members of the CBC who represent largely black constituencies also bear a large share of the responsibility. While some 8 million existing U.S. jobs are estimated to be held by illegal aliens, the CBC, like Mr. Obama, has consistently opposed tough enforcement of laws against employing illegal aliens. Many of the jobs filled by illegal aliens could be filled by black Americans, especially the huge cohort of black youth who are neither in school nor part of the labor force.

Rather than press the president to fulfill his responsibilities to American workers and resume meaningful enforcement against companies that employ illegal aliens, removing those workers from the country, the CBC marches in lockstep with the interests that promote illegal immigration. Since taking office last year, Mr. Obama has all but halted immigration enforcement in the workplace - a policy that enjoys the support of the CBC.

The CBC also has been front and center in the effort to enact amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and throw open the doors to still higher levels of future immigration. Late last year, representing her 42 colleagues, Rep. Yvette D. Clark, New York Democrat, whip of the CBC, stood shoulder to shoulder with Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat, as he unveiled an illegal alien amnesty bill that would provide nothing for black Americans except more competition for jobs, educational opportunities and increasingly scarce government resources.

As members of the body that is crafting a federal budget projected to include $1.5 trillion worth of red ink, the CBC knows full well that we do not have the ability to spend our way out of the unemployment crisis that disproportionately affects black Americans. What they and the Obama administration can do, however, is make sure that American workers - regardless of race or ethnicity - have access to millions of existing jobs now filled by illegal workers, or any new jobs that may be created.

The CBC also should be the vanguard of the effort to reduce overall levels of immigration to the United States. During the 2000s, the growth of our labor force - fueled by the highest levels of legal and illegal immigration in our nation’s history - outpaced the growth of jobs in our economy. As often has been the case throughout history, it is black workers who have suffered the most.

As leaders of the black community, members of the CBC are in a unique position to frame the immigration issue in terms of social justice and ensuring opportunity to all Americans. Latinos and other immigrants are not entirely to blame for unemployment that disproportionately afflicts black Americans. Rather, it is immigration policies that ignore the profound impact of millions of people entering our country - legally and illegally - that are a huge part of the problem.

Rather than compounding the damage that ill-conceived and unenforced immigration policies have inflicted on Americans generally and black Americans particularly, it is time for the CBC and America’s first black president to confront and reform those policies. Reducing immigration to the United States and enforcing laws intended to protect the interests of American workers are not only the right things to do, they are the only viable things to do given the fiscal realities our nation is facing.

Reforming America’s dysfunctional immigration policies and enforcing laws against illegal immigration will not magically cure unemployment and other problems in the black community. But, under current circumstances, there is likely nothing that the CBC and Mr. Obama could do that would have more immediate or beneficial impact on black Americans. Sadly, it is a step that black congressional leaders and the White House are unlikely to take.

If there was as much ruckus raised in congress about job displacement by illegal’s as there was in defense of Franklin Raines they might get something moving.

Now take cities like Detroit, Flint, Cleveland and St. Louis that have a high percentage of black population, a high rate of unemployment and run by democrats, yet you have little if any illegal job displacement. Why? Most of the jobs left in mass over the last 30 years and are NOT coming back. What’s the game plan? Business as usual?

The members of the CBC should not be expecting much out of this President. His Hispanic supporters are up in arms about the recent reports on deportations. If the numbers are going down we can only guess he is listening to them.

If Napolitano is one of Obama’s top talents this country is in serious trouble.

As head of the Department of Homeland Security, She is the sole person responsible for critical aspects of border security. I am not even sure she understands that responsibility.

She has the sole responsibility for immigration enforcement, both at the borders and throughout the country. Since her appointment, her policy changes have actually reduced immigration enforcement. DHS is the only agency in the US who can identify and deport people who are in this country illegally. With 12 to 20 million currently in this country illegally, it would be consistent with her mission to enforce existing immigration law and actually deport these people. ICE, under her direction, has been returned to another paper bureaucracy. ICE is now obsessed with paperwork audits in lieu of actual detentions and deportations. Under her direction 1,800 potentially illegal aliens did not even have their status checked after being discovered at a Los Angeles site.

She is responsible for insuring the safety of the flying public. After the December terrorist attack by the underwear bomber she stated “the system worked”, Regardless of how she meant it, is not appropriate for someone who is responsible for the safety of the airline passengers and the potential damage that an airplane can inflict on this country. In my opinion, her statement appears to be a badly fumbled attempt to divert blame from her department. I know this is a popular game played in Washington to divert blame and it does occasionally work. It does not however, relieve her of her responsibility.

She is a public relations nightmare. She officially insulted our veterans by declaring them a security threat and even declared that the 9/11 terrorists entered this country through the Canadian Border.

She cannot even prevent party crashers from penetrating the White House.

It is only a matter of time before some national emergency requires action by FEMA. I hope that this department is prepared this time.

She needs to resign immediately or be fired by President Obama at the earliest opportunity. She is a disaster for this country and the sooner it is realized the better.

Here is the solution. Let’s ask our beloved Congress to pass a law which will provide a Path to Honorary Illegal Status for natural born American Citizens. That way, natural born American Citizens can enjoy all the benefits and privileges that the real illegals enjoy.

Our problems will get worse before they get better. Obama and the dems have gone all-in with the leftist base of their party. With the health care bill, they have written off moderate dems and independents. Their only hope of survival now is energizing that base. We’ll see more of news such as this - not enforcing immigration laws, pushing for cap-and-trade and other idiotic laws, and pandering without mercy to the most fringe elements of the left.

Read the linked article on CNN about the possible ramifications of the Tea Party running their candidates in races against Republicans and Democrats:

I urge Tea Party activists to compete in Republican primaries for the House and Senate if they want but to get behind the eventual Republican nominee, even if the person is not their preferred candidate. Independents and third-party candidates are only going to elect dems, as Ross Perot helped hand the Presidency to Bill Clinton in 1992. We must elect a Congress this year that can throw the brakes on any further damage Obama might do to our nation and economy.

If you listen to the Admin talking heads, they are tougher on illegals than Bush was(I know the bar was set low) and they deported more illegals than ever in 2009. It’s really all smoke and mirrors. They can point to a couple of wonk stats and say without a smirk they are really tougher.

The best part with his amnesty is that if illegals do not follow the rules put forth by the plan, they would face deportation. Now, that is a side splitter. But just goes to show the attitude of these people.

Also, keep in mind that obama under pressure from illegal supporters said they would not focus on illegals who are working jobs that Americans refuse to do, and focus on companies that hire illegals.

Greg, that was an excellent thread and opening comment. I think one of the great mysteries of our time is why our Black citizens do not raise more of a voice against illegal immigration based especially on the unemployment situation. They are always among the first to lose access to jobs. You can see it all around us in Northern Virginia in the construction, landscaping, and other fields.

Our HOA has a contracted trash pick-up service for which all residents pay through their monthly homeowner assessment. For years, that service was performed by mostly Black employees, with an occasional young White guy trying to earn some college money. The service was regular and top-notch. There then came a day when all those Black and White employees disappeared overnight and were replaced by Hispanic immigrants. Moreover, unlike the previous period, when you came to know the regular employees and often gave them Christmas tips, the Hispanic employees became irregular, almost like they may have been day laborers picked up somewhere. I couldn’t believe that there was no protest to be seen in our own Black community. Just silence.

The only conclusion I can come to is the same as that cited by Bill Cosby: that the Black community in general seems to have come under the almost paralyzing control of the so-called “poverty pimps” in politics and in the principal Black organizations, abetted independently by employers who violate the law to secure cheaper labor. I just wish the day would come when our Black brothers were marching side by side with us on this issue. It seems like Blacks fought all those years for equal rights and then wind up being shunted aside with regard to employment opportunities.

It has been reported that 12 Americans are killed each day by illegal aliens, 13 Americans die each day due to drunk driving illegal aliens and 8 American children are sexually assaulted by illegal aliens each day.

It is indeed a twisted world when our President, his administration and an overwhelming number of our elected officials look to take comfort in the fact that these crimes may soon be committed by “fellow Americans” if their push for amnesty is successful.

Tim Kaine, Gerry Connolly and Jim Moran to Dine with Terrorists on April 3rd in Falls Church

    No American Should Remain Silent

The 9/11 mosque Dar Al Hijrah will hold its annual fundraising dinner on Saturday at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church. Among the special guests are former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Congressman Gerry Connolly and Congressman Jim Moran. After receiving a briefing paper from the Center for Security Policy, the names of Senator James Webb and Virginia Delegate Kaye Kory have been removed from the dinner’s program.

The Dar Al Hijrah mosque has been the focal point for many who participated in the cowardly attack on the Pentagon and in recent terrorist acts at Fort Hood, Texas and other incidents.

We ask that you do the following:

Place a phone call to Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine @ (202-863-8000), Congressman Gerry Connolly (202-225-1492) and Congressman James Moran (202-225-4376)and encourage them to follow the good example of Senator Webb and Delegate Kory and withdraw from the Dar Al Hijrah fundraising dinner.

Join members of the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force, Act for America and the Center for Security Policy who will protest outside the dinner. Please bring a sign to the Fairview Park Marriott, 3111 Fairview Park Drive, Falls Church at 5 p.m., Saturday , April 3.

“While brave young American men and women are risking their lives to fight terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan, Connolly, Moran and Kaine are yucking it up with them and popping champagne corks here at the Marriott. These spineless politicians are owned and operated by the radical Islamists and their sinister front groups.” — James Lafferty, Chairman, Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force (VAST)

ICE can only detain what they have space/money to detain which is what? Maybe 29,000 in this country, total. Currently, today All detention spaces ICE has available are currently filled in VA, something in the 500ish range as per the latest population report.
