Mike Frey’s Political Seppuku
By Greg L | 1 June 2010 | Fairfax County, Illegal Aliens | 31 Comments

A constituent calls out Mike Frey for his idiotic open borders mentality.
Tonight Sully District Supervisor Michael Frey watched his political career vanish as citizens mobbed a meeting and voiced their outrage against his proposal to make the lives of illegal alien day laborers more comfortable. In a meeting that was clearly supposed to be something where the citizenry would listen to their betters so they can go back to being complacent dolts, the overwhelming opinion was that this idea is unconscionably wrong and that elected officials that want to associate themselves with the idiocy on parade this evening are going to have remarkably short careers. Frey’s attempt to lull the proletariat into complacency failed.
From the beginning it looked like this meeting was going to spin entirely out of control, and several times it threatened to devolve into complete chaos. Supervisor Frey and the shopping center property owner both tried to explain that the only two options were supposedly to let illegal alien day laborers continue to congregate where they are, or provide a day laborer center for them. A local open borders group then tried to bat clean-up making it very obvious that there wasn’t any intent to obtain community input here but to simply assuage public opinion somehow so this done deal could go forward and the ’smart’ people be entrusted to make decisions for the community. That didn’t resolve concerns, it just seemed to feed them.
Supervisor Frey also took a stab at trying to explain why he wasn’t going to consider any actions along the lines of Prince William County’s Rule of Law Resolution, mischaracterizing what we did here in this county to such a degree that it demonstrated either utter incompetence on the subject or willful intent to lie. Seeing how he also incongruously claimed that the day labor center in Herndon a few years back “worked” at solving a problem rather than enraging the community to throw out just about every elected official who supported it, I’m just going to lean towards the latter. At any rate, it gave me an opportunity to deliver my impression of Representative Joe Wilson, which seemed to amuse some folks.
The obvious condescension on display here did little more than throw gasoline on an already simmering fire, and speaker after speaker stood up to talk about how abetting lawlessness is ridiculously stupid and detrimental to the community. We learned that approximately 75% of day laborers are illegal aliens, that this facility would issue “membership card” identity documents to laborers participating at the site (although not for identification purposes, they promise), and that the church group that intends to run the center doesn’t intend to ask for government money to finance it, but they’re not going to foreswear public grant money or other public support if they really need it.
What a debacle. Frey — actually a Republican, I remind you — managed to pack the informal panel with open borders advocates along with a representative of the local law enforcement community that swore up and down they just don’t have the resources to deal with the illegal alien issue, and demand that everyone else refrain from doing anything but asking questions of his hand-picked group of open borders sycophants. Of course you’re going to see a revolt, Supervisor. Effectively telling your constituents that they can’t question your grand designs but only seek out information about the decision you’ve hand picked for them is right out of the rapidly imploding Obama playbook. It just doesn’t work.
Maybe Frey got a reality check tonight. I’m not betting on it, though. I think Republicans are going to have to throw out some of their trash pretty soon and find someone who isn’t competing so well in the “who can impersonate Hugo Chavez” contest that appears to be running here. From the looks of tonight’s meeting, there’s quite a group of citizens who could fill his shoes rather nicely, which offers a little promise for real “change” in the future. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to put up some clips of the two hours of footage I shot tonight, particularly of the man in the photo up top, and you’ll be able to see for yourself. He was tremendous.
Frey is toast, or at least he should be. Tonight was utterly disgusting.
Also of note, an old friend showed up by the name of Arnoldo Borjas. Here’s an old picture of him he posted on the website of Mexicans Without Borders a few years back. See what a nice guy he is?

How nice to see Mike Frey carrying water for a foreign armed insurgency with a Marxist and Anarchist ideology. I guess the “big tent” got a bit bigger than I realized.

If this yahoo likes illegals so much, let him have the center at his own residence.
Only two choices. Tell that to Arizona! If police are too busy to deal with illegals, then close the donut shops for a couple hours each day.
“…a representative of the local law enforcement community that swore up and down they just don’t have the resources to deal with the illegal alien issue…”
Holy cow! These county workers have to go! What the hell are those motorcycle cops doing standing around on Manchester Blvd. with a radar gun all afternoon when illegals are accosting kids in front of libraries and trolling neighborhoods? Bye-bye Gay Frey!
I am so glad that the citizens came out to oppose this nonsense!!!!!!!

Just a prelude to the coming storm on amnesty.
Supervisor Frey is a good guy who has gotten himself sucked into this whole debacle by a bunch of well meaning do-gooders. But to allow “feeling sorry for people” to drive public policy is a mistake. Supervisor Frey and the good folks trying to help these day laborers have no clue as to the level of pent-up anger over nothing being done about the situation at the library for the past 4-5 years.
I think Frey has the best of intentions but he is just clueless…
I think Frey has the best of intentions but he is just clueless…
Bullshit.
Are the people who came to the meeting the same ones who supported Fairfax’s sanctuary county policy back when PWC instituted the rule of law? It’s easy to be liberal until the problem is transferred to your back yard (or shopping center). Then they become a NIMBY army.
“Wait till they get a load of me.”
I was there for a while, but had to leave before Gregg spoke. Too bad I missed it. This is a misguided attempt at a solution. Leaving aside the fact that it is abetting law breaking and the fact that My Supervisor seems to feel that some laws can be ignored because they are expensive to enforce, the location is terrible. As one speaker said there is no reason to believe that the workers would remain at the trailer in the back rather than congregate out front where prospective employers could find them. The proposed location is at best two car widths wide. Placing a trailer there would require either building a foundation in a green space environmentally protected area or blocking part of the roadway. Expecting contractors trucks to get by among the existing traffic and to make the tight turns at either end of the alley is a receipt for disaster. It certainly will restrict access for emergency vehicles.

I disagree. “Well meaning do-gooders” simply provide political cover for those who want the continue illegal immigration, just like those who said the (former) Soviet Union was on its way to becoming a workers paradise.
Calling them that implies that they are too befuddled to think intelligently and gives them an excuse for their drivel.
As for Frey, if he really is clueless on THIS issue, he must be clueless on every issue — and it is time to show him the door. Better an informed, honest representative from the other party than someone who is mentally challenged….
I heard the Frey interview this morning on AM630, and all he could do was say “we can’t” this and “we can’t” that. He stated he wouldn’t support the 287g program, and down played the results of the PWC Resolution. This guy is pure illegal alien supporter, no doubt in my mind! I guess MWB told him they would support him in the next election.

It was sad to see how bigotry and fear can rule people and form a mob. The agenda of the people of Centreville that came to the meeting was not to listen to what was going to be said; but to condemn their supervisor and the issue at hand provided them with the perfect opportunity for it. It was for many a political arena, and not a human and social issue.
Immigrants legal or illegal are a positive contribution to any community they live; they own businesses, homes, work, and form part of their communities as a whole. The majority pay taxes as any other working individual does. That was a repeated issue, do they pay taxes? Yes, those who are educated on the topic do pay taxes.
Centreville Immigration Forum’s purpose is not based on an open border mentality, but it is looking for a solution to an ongoing local issue; this meeting was not about the immigration problem of this country, it was solely to discuss a possible solution for the local community, one which these immigrants are part of.
Mr. Dwoskin offered a solution using his own financial resources, and that was not acceptable for those opposing immigrants; what a pretension trying to tell this man what to do or not to do with his money and property. Did anyone on the opposition offered a plausible solution for the local problem? No, they were so focus in the immigration problem at the national level, trying to ridicule their supervisor, and just been plain rude, that they could not see beyond their agenda.
Yes, one of the results of having the Center will be that those who used it will have a safer and secure place where to be while waiting for someone to offer them a job. If your opinion is that is making it more comfortable for the people using the Center, isn’t it the right of all people to feel secure and comfortable? Where does it say only citizens have the right of it?
A day center might not be the solution for the national dilemma, but for the local community is the best solution that exists at this time. It will take people off the streets allowing those who said they didn’t feel safe to feel more comfortable; and at the same time will provide for a centralized, organized and more secure place for the workers.
Which services the Center will offer are open for discussion yet, nothing is definite since it is in the planning stages. The meetings are open to the community in general; anyone who wants to come and help plan and develop this idea is welcome. So far and following the example of other centers possible services will include ESL classes, education on the tax laws of the USA, referrals to supporting organizations for services that might be needed by the workers and their families.
You talk about how Pr. William fixed it with its ordinance giving permission to police officers to check legal status of immigrants worked, it all depends on the individual point of view. If having hundreds of houses in a row empty, going to waste, and devaluating property values; businesses closed; revenue going down; racial profiling, and many other not so positive results, then you can say it was a success.
People who do not want or fear what is going to happen with the people south of the border do really have strong opinions and voice them out; those who are on the receiving side, really are not able to voice out their feelings for fear of been attack by these people.
Please read the article below so you can be more inform, is a case study made on the results of the ordinance passed in your county.

Nice to see the libs still come here to visit from time to time, like Anonymous above.
Here’s their little game:
1. Establish alternatives of “do nothing” or “adopt socialism”
2. Demand people choose between the two when confronted by issues.
3. Refuse to acknowledge any other options
4. Whine when folks get upset and accuse them of being racist
Gosh, it never seems to get old for them, even when it doesn’t work.
By the way, nice appeal to authority having an unsolicited analysis by of all things an ENGLISH PROFESSOR at GMU supposedly provide an unbiased and trustworthy review. I guess you ran out of Ethnic Studies Professors…
Anonymous, some of us have the “audacity of hope” not to give up on the issue and to provide air-conditioned comfort to illegal immigrants. If you don’t respect the opinions of people who live and work near the area in question, that’s really too bad for you.
“Bigotry”, “fear”, “mob”, … good luck changing hearts and minds with your tired, distanced rhetoric. Why don’t you, and the members of this church behind this crap, take in as many illegal immigrants as you can stuff in your house, assuage your presumably-white guilt, and then get back to us in 6 months as to how that worked out for you.
Well, part of the reason a lot of these folks turned out was this was their chance to actually get Mr. Frey’s attention on this issue. I communicated with Mr. Frey and his staff over the years but my very polite and detailed inquiry back in 2007 regarding the Centreville Library situation was never acknowledged or replied to. T’was the only time that every happened. I suspect a lot of folks were there who were (and are) tired of being ignored.
BTW, the “developer” Mr. Dwoskin is listed as serving on the board of Catalist - who’s client list includes: National Council of La Raza / Democracia USA. No surprise there…
http://catalist.us/clients.html
What is so difficult about 1) enforcing loitering laws and 2) asking for paperwork that lawful immigrants are supposed to be carrying? Everyone would be happy. No running the gauntlet every time you want to shop in Centreville, lawful immigrants vindicated when they show their papers, illegals sent packing from whence they came. This is not bigotry. ANY and ALL loiterers will be treated the same!
Plase allow me to summarize why your support of a day laborer center is misdirected.
DAY LABOR CENTERS IGNORE RULES AGAINST ILLEGAL WORKERS
The reason that day labor hiring sites should not be tolerated by local governments is that they ignore the issue of the work status of the worker, thus facilitating illegal immigration. The center managers argue that it is the responsibility of the employers, not them, to verify the work eligibility of the employee hired. While this may be technically correct, if there is local government support for a hiring site, it is reasonable for a prospective employer to assume that the worker who is made available through the site is legally entitled to work. Thus, the hiring centers may not only facilitate the employment of unauthorized workers, they may also encourage the employer of the day laborer to break the law against hiring illegal aliens.
HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS AT A DAY LABOR CENTER IS A CRIME
Since the adoption in 1986 of the Immigration Reduction and Control Act (IRCA), it has been illegal for an employer to hire an illegal alien. The IRCA gave rise to a system of document checking by empoyers (the I-9 form) to control against violations.
In 1986, the Immigration Reform and Control Act amended the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit the hiring or continued employment of an unauthorized alien. Violation of this law involves the felony of concealing, harboring, and shielding illegal aliens from detection and is demonstrated when employees lack work authorization documents, are paid in cash, Social Security or federal taxes are not withheld, and the employer fails to pay employer contributions.
DAY LABOR CENTERS DRIVE DOWN WORK CONDITIONS FOR LEGAL WORKERS
All state governments and most, if not all, county governments and large city governments operate labor departments funded by federal and state unemployment trust accounts. Their responsibility is to try to match out-of-work residents (often receiving unemployment benefits) with employers seeking workers. These labor departments assist job placement of legally employable workers. The day labor hiring centers that are currently erupting in areas of large concentrations of illegal aliens circumvent and undermine the taxpayer-funded operation of the government employment offices. Among the screening standards provided by an official placement office is assuring that the employment complies with legal requirements, such as the minimum wage and overtime payments. The employer sanctions provisions of the immigration law specifically provide that workers hired through a state employment agency are to be considered legal workers.
Employers hiring workers from day labor centers often will avoid legal standards, pay less than the minimum wage, fail to withhold salary for taxes, and avoid paying into the unemployment fund and other expenses. Those employers illegally cut the costs of employment and, in the process, decrease the job opportunities for qualified workers who may be unemployed, but who are unwilling to work for cash payments under the table. As a result of this process, the wages that a qualified worker may earn become depressed towards the wages that the illegal workers are willing to accept. The effect of the day labor centers is, therefore, to benefit the illegal alien workers and the employers who are breaking the law in hiring them, while at the same time undercutting the earning potential and opportunities for some of the country’s most needy workers. It also increases the burden on taxpayers because of the cost of general assistance provided to the out-of-work residents.
DAY LABOR CENTERS DEPRESS WORKING STANDARDS
Many of the employers of day laborers are contractors who are working on construction sites. They use day laborers because it offers greater flexibility as the workload fluctuates depending on weather and the economy. Such construction contract work is highly competitive, and unless the contractor is working on a government contract, the cost of wages may determine who wins the contract. In this kind of environment, the contractor who cuts labor costs by suppressing wages has an advantage, something that using illegal workers helps to achieve.
A contractor who is scrupulous about respecting the law and hiring only legal workers may thus be at a comparative disadvantage in competing for a contract. Over time, greater pressure will develop for all competitors to use illegal workers, and the wages that are offered to day laborers may become depressed so far that legal workers are unwilling to take these jobs.
Greg Feere, the head of the Contra Costa (Calif.) Building and Construction Trade Council explains, “What it [the day laborer hiring site] basically does is put a legitimate contractor at a disadvantage. You get non-union contractors who don’t work by the rules, don’t offer worker’s compensation and pay with cash.”
DAY LABOR CENTERS ATTRACT ADDITIONAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
A day labor hiring center that makes no distinction between legal and illegal workers sends a message to illegal workers that our society does not care whether a worker is legally in the country or is in violation of our immigration law. It also invites other illegal aliens to come and take advantage of the inviting environment.
For example, in New Jersey where several day labor hiring centers have been established, the number of workers seeking to find jobs through these centers has continuously increased so that pressure has been created to establish still additional informal hiring sites. By accommodating this, local governments are creating conditions whereby the population of illegal workers will simply expand and generate further pressures until such time that the demand for such workers is entirely fulfilled, at which time the community is likely to find that it has a large number of unemployed illegal aliens as well as legal residents.

“Centreville Immigration Forum’s purpose is not based on an open border mentality, but it is looking for a solution to an ongoing local issue”:
How about you deport the illegal alien criminals? Seems like a solution to me.
Mr. Frey needs to be reminded that all politics are local.
“Immigrants legal or illegal are a positive contribution to any community they live”????? Are you serious? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have EVER read. That’s like saying rapists or bank robbers or speeders are a positive contribution to any community they live.
How in the world are our children supposed to learn basic right and wrong when fools like Anonymous freely spout garbage like that?
ILLEGAL MEANS ILLEGAL!!!!!! PERIOD! EVERY TIME!
‘what a pretension trying to tell this man what to do or not to do with his money and property’
I used to work in the DC area and I remember vividly the gentrification of the Logan Circle area of DC. It seems that yuppies were moving in and took great umbrage with the ladies of the evening, who had plied their trade on the streets there for decades. They demanded that the DC police crackdown on both the ladies but more importantly, their, ahem, ‘employers’.
Now, suppose some, oh, I dunno, ‘great humanitarian’ had decided that what the working girls needed was a Night Labor Center, just like the proposed DLC. Let’s say he offered to pay for it and volunteers from somewhere or other, maybe churches, maybe not, offered to staff it. The girls wouldn’t have to give any info, but guys who showed up would. They could then take away their ‘employees’. The NLC would offer all sorts of other services (STD tests?).
Even if most guys coming by wouldn’t give their info, do you think that this would be sanctioned? Somehow I doubt it. Don’t you think that the ladies who know that a lot of guys won’t give their info might just mosey along a block or so away to be picked up as usual?
Well, hiring people not legally able to work in the US is no different from hiring a prostitute who can’t legally sell sex in DC. FWIW there are all sorts of laws dealing with what I can do on my property with my resources.
Dwoskin is no different.
It’s all a matter of externalities. What are the benefits and costs to those not only directly involved but also for those indirectly involved in the activity.
The way, the real way to handle this illegal problem is to enforce the laws: depot everyone of the illegals. Building a ‘group gathering ‘is a poor excuse to continue to help our country go down the drain.
Anyone who agrees with the illegals should read what Teddy Roosevelt said about immigrants and legal immigration which this country is based upon. The next ass who starts telling me how we should treat illegals had better review all the laws of Mexico that cover legal immigration and what happens to illegal immigrants. It is pure BS to say how bad we are and listen to MWB and the politicians claim we need to be more understanding - aka - ignore all the laws.
Enough is enough!
If any politician is not for the 287g program then what the hell are they for? Pro-crime? So an illegal immigrant can do what they want and STAY here?! The 287g targets CRIMINALS. So what is the problem with, catching, prosecuting, jailing and then deporting the illegal? I would like Frey’s answer to this question. I guess when he or she is finished, just release the illegal back into our system again. Wow, now that is really enforcing immigration laws and punishing those bad illegals.
He ain’t misguided, he believes that he will get votes for being pro-illegal. He is waiting for B Hussein to get his “reform” passed.
We need to vote these idiots OUT OF OFFICE. They are NOT public servants. They are public leaches!
This Dwoskin is a big name in Fairfax. He has got to be up to something by wanting the trailer in the back of his shopping center.Maybe he thinks the Govt. will pay money to him?
Course it would be just like Fairfax to do this.
They have always had the loose liberals on their BOS.
Keep an eye on him!!!!
It’s simple. It aint deep. Anyone who supports the posistion of illegal aliens entering or residing in and / or staying in the United States for any reason is an enemy of America. Period.
Roger that, Citizen12. It ain’t complicated, it ain’t rocket science. Either you want a country or you don’t. A “country” is defined by borders. If you do not want borders, you do not want a country. If you do not want a country, you’re of no use to those of us who do. I’ve made my choice. I want a country. I want its borders enforced. I want those inside its borders to be legally here. I want those who are not legally here to be searced for and kicked out. It’s all very simple.
It is: Borders, Language, and Culture - according to Dr. Michael Savage.
Those who do not want to live in this Country should leave it. Go to a place where you can implement your concept of a society.
See how long it lasts with an open borders policy, no common language, and a dozen or so of non-dominant cultures.
