Keith Fimian Says NO To Day Labor Site

By Greg L | 3 June 2010 | Keith Fimian, Fairfax County, Illegal Aliens, US Congress, Prince William County | 34 Comments

Keith Fimian has issued a strong statement condemning the notion of establishing a Day Laborer center that would abet the unlawful hiring of illegal aliens in Centreville, while Pat Herrity remains publicly silent on the issue.  It would be tremendously helpful to primary voters weighing which candidate deserves their support to see both candidates address this issue, as their positions in this respect might make a considerable difference.  Let’s hope Herrity drills down into this kind of concrete local policy area as Fimian has and allow that kind of meaningful evaluation.

“With plans for a day-labor center moving forward, I join with Centreville residents and business owners in opposition. As well intentioned as proponents of this project may be, it sends entirely to the wrong message to people who have, in many cases, broken our laws to be here and invites a host of problems including increased potential for crime in the area.”

“If the federal government would just do its job, states, localities and well intentioned citizens would not be left with the responsibility of figuring out what to do with illegal immigrants. The rule of law is a fundamental underpinning of our way of life and our system of government. Unfortunately most of the career politicians in Washington love to write new laws, but lack the resolve or good judgment, or both, to enforce existing ones.”

“There are a lot of commonsense steps we can take to address this problem, including securing our borders by whatever means necessary and having police check the immigration status of anyone arrested for committing a crime. Above all, we must make sure career politicians like Gerry Connolly, who are eager for millions of new voters, are not successful in their efforts to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants whose very first action was breaking the law to enter our nation.”

“If Connolly’s record as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is any indication, he will enthusiastically support amnesty. During Connolly’s tenure on the Board, the Associated Press reported that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors dedicated $400,000 ‘to establish three facilities that serve as gathering places for illegal immigrants to offer their services’ at a time budget deficits were soaring. County supervisors have been raising property taxes ever since to pay for this type of reckless spending. Even worse, back in 2007 Connolly told the Washington Post that ‘under no circumstances’ should police check the immigration status of someone suspected of a crime.’”

“We need to prevent the establishment of a day-laborer center in Centreville and defeat career politicians like Gerry Connolly who aid and abet law breaking. Supervisor Herrity has not made his position on this issue publicly known. Despite having referred to Prince William County’s efforts to enforce immigration laws as ‘mean-spirited’ in the past, I hope Supervisor Herrity will make his position known and do everything he can to stop this day-laborer center.”

Way to go Keith Fimian - a rarity - a politician with some backbone/guts.

mean-spirited - yeah, mean to the taxpaying citizen and all the victims of the crimes committed by illegals.

Gee, ya think Congress could manage to secure the border and ensure the effective enforcement of our laws if they wanted to? Their malfeasance is precisely why this has become a local issue.

If Congress didn’t want to enforce the law, the least they could do is expressly authorize state and local law enforcement to do the job they don’t want to do. 700k-plus additional personnel addressing this issue would wrap it up in about a month and the best part is under that scenario the vast majority of illegal aliens would self-deport..

@Cynic-So with that logic, we should just allow anyone through immigration at our airports without checking papers (wait, but that’s fascism!!!)–as long as they don’t assault the immigration officers.

I shouldn’t be worried about my kid riding her bike to soccer practice on paths through the woods because this article says it’s not so bad with these criminals here. 30 years ago, no one thought about that here.

Mexicans aside, they just caught a Pakistani crossing recently. What’s he up to? There aren’t enough resources to inspect all of the trucks coming over the border. Except for what the paperwork says (more fascism!!!), we don’t even know what’s in most of those trucks. That border needs to be secured!

Just discount or completely ignore this and the warning the State Dept. issued a few weeks ago. No ranchers murdered or beaten, no trash or other litter left on the land by the illegals. Nothing but peace and quiet along that US/Mexican border. Would not be surprised if the liberals started moving there to gain the benefits of all that peace and quiet!

    Lets get down to basics….
Every country in the world protects its borders from invasion (except us).
Secure the borders first. Until we secure the borders, the flow of “illegal”, “un-documented”, un-wanted, un-needed people will continue to flow. Once the borders are secure, then we can began to deal with all the people who break our laws that are not suppose to be here to begin with. The exisitng law enforcement agencies should be allowed to enforce the laws! Is that not their job? The Police are not here to “protect” you, they are here to enforce the law. Let the Police enforce the law and let me protect myself…….

Ronald or whatever your name really is:

Jackson Miller has been active in the immigration debate and led the original ordinance passed by the city to control overcrowding as well as the 287g program at the PWC jail. I am not sure what your agenda is, but you sure seem to want to paint Jackson with a liberal brush. You must be Bob or a Bob supporter or you would mention that John Stirrup, Dave Albo, and Tim Hugo have all also endorsed Herritty. They are all very strong on the illegal immigration issue.

What I find most interesting of all, is that Jackson is the only one of the above politicians that is not part of the 11th district with thier districts. Why do you keep bringing him up?

You have two families: “Joe Legal” and “Jose Illegal”.
Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes
$25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and
gets paid $15.00 cash “under the table”.

    Ready? Now pay attention…

    Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00
per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has

    Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.0 0
per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his
family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now
    has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and
local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or
welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per
year.. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and
welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe
    Legal now has $9,631 .00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose
Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose
    Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now
    has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, “We don’t need no stinkin’ insurance!” and still has

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline,

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline,
and what he sends out of the country every month..

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal’s and Jose Illegal’s children both attend the same school. Joe
Legal pays for his children’s lunches while Jose Illegal’s children get
a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal’s children have an after school
ESL program. Joe Legal’s children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services,
but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

    Do you get it, now?

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens…

You are part of the problem!

I like Jackson a lot and respect him a great deal but he is wrong on his endorsement of Herrity. You either support illegal immigration or you do not support illegal immigration. There is no gray area. Politicians would like you to believe that it isn’t that simple but it really is. They steal jobs, they commit crimes, they trash entire neighborhoods and towns and they suck vast amounts of money away from municipality coffers. Every incumbent needs to be FORCED to choose a side and go on record and not be allowed to weasel out of choosing whose side they are on. Then the ones who chose poorly need to be voted out. *cough* Frank Wolf *cough*

Herrity was the one who made Fairfax County start deporting illegals, and before he joined the board you couldn’t even get a discussion on it - FACT. So in my eyes he’s been very pro-active on this subject, and an advocate to the cause.

And here he is opposing the day laborer site too just in case y’all missed it - http://voices.washingtonpost.com/local-breaking-news/virginia/day-labor-center-debate-surfac.html

Cynic - It seems to me that it would take more guts to say: “we’ve got a local problem here and a limit on our range of solutions. Someone has offered to provide a site away from the public library, let’s get public input on whether that would be at least an incremental improvement in the current situation. Once we have those views from the community, we can make a decision. ” I’m not sure it takes the slightest bit of courage for a pol to rail against illegal aliens without being willing or able to attack root causes or articulate real solutions that are in the national interest. I see a lot of it around the political space these days.

DPortM finally makes a good point by noting that virtually everything that people complain about and contend that illegal aliens are prone to can be controlled by application of existing laws that apply to all persons. Welcome aboard.

  25. Cynic said on 5 Jun 2010 at 11:25 am:

I agree that the problem could be dealt with effectively by applying existing laws. But, when might they begin applying existing laws? From what I see and read existing laws are ignored and only applied when they (illegals) murder, commit armed robbery, or rape someone, if then.

For example, why do we have all these sanctuary jurisdictions?
Why are illegals eligible for welfare/public benefits?
Why are employers allowed to pay them in cash and not withhold income taxes, pay workers’ comp., and unemployment insurance on their wages.
These actions do not apply to “all persons”, but, all citizens have to pay their taxes which support and benefit these criminal illegals.

All it would take would be for enough citizens to vote in the right people. And, that is a big, big order - given the mind set and demographics of the voting public.

Herrity has not been out to remove the illegals! He was very vocal in the stand P.W. took. It was as if he was talking down to us. All we want him to do is stay in Fairfax. He belongs there with all his cohorts on the BOS.None of them have done much of nothing and like to keep raising the taxes.

Even with all the money they collect they can’t run a right budget.Always want more.

Now you wait till this Dwoski gets a shelter, he will ask the County for operation fees and then the fight is on.There is no way this guy is doing this from his heart. He has discovered a way to line his pockets.

Someone needs to run a check on him as I know he’s been around along time and it hasn’t been good.

Herrity is a good liar, just like Connelly who sat on Fairfax Board of Supervisors.

Better do some checking as Herrity is NOT the One to do for US.

Illegal aliens have and always will be a creation of our governments own policies. I.E. if they enforced the laws already on the books across the board we wouldn’t have this issue. If they had not granted amnesty back in the 80’s we would have far less of an issue.

as for the post above that mentioned the illegal on welfare, would be more correct if it mentioned welfare for the illegals children. Although the money all goes to the parent, it’s not the parent collecting welfare..it’s the anchor children that the illegals spawned. It’s well known that illegals procreate to gain more supplemental income from the government. Got an illegal down the street with 8 kids and she’s around 28 years old! Always pregnant, speaks no english and get’s the subsidies and everything else.

ANY politician who votes for anything resembling amnesty essentially seals his or her political coffin. It’s obvious from the issue in Arizona that the anti-illegal alien crowd far exceed the ones pro-illegal. The difference is enormous. Illegal immigration is a hot-button item to Americans as a whole, Americans are fiercely patriotic and this day and age of a war, etc..make any real or perceived invasion to our country a major threat. You are seeing this reaction in Arizona, you’ll be seeing it more and more as other states jump on the band wagon. When you see obama announce amnesty for the illegals you’ll see him and his henchmen impeached..It’s already a given this fool will be a one-term president as he’s already jacked up this country enough.

Or how about case #GT01190166-00 — 79 in a 55. The cop obviously gave Mr. Herrity preferential treatment there because it wasn’t written up as a reckless driving conviction, as Mr. Herrity pre-paid it and you cannot do that with a reckless driving conviction.

For the rest of us who don’t get such preferential treatment, 20MPH over is reckless, and 79 is more than 20 over 55.

Just enforce immigration law. The anti-enforcement people are looking for any excuse not to do that. The majority of Americans are in favor of immigration enforcement. Throw the anti-enforcement liars out of office.

It makes no sense do nothing about enforcement just because the borders don’t work. Enforce employment law! Bogus Social Security information? Investigate and arrest.

And the border is only part of the problem. 40% of the illegal aliens in the country came in legally, but then overstayed their visas. No border fence will affect that.

    Enforce immigration law now.
