The Rule Of Law Benefits Immigrants

By Greg L | 11 June 2010 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 16 Comments

Old Dominion Watchdog reports on a development I’ve been hoping, and expecting to see for quite some time: that with fewer illegal aliens unlawfully resident in our community legal immigrants actually enjoy a greater degree of safety and security than before. Go figure that when you reduce the number of illegal aliens you also reduce the number of people people preying on them, including human traffickers, drug runners, prostitution rings, gangs with narco-terrorist affiliations and counterfeiters.  No group potentially benefits more from a reduction in illegal immigration than those who may be wrongly conflated with it and impacted by it due to a shared cultural heritage with the lawless.

As president of the board of directors of the Literacy Volunteers of America, George Kerr said that he has seen anecdotal evidence from clients that Hispanic families have greater feelings of security and safety since the [Rule of Law] resolution passed.

The Literacy Volunteers of America is an affiliate of the nationwide ProLiteracy America, which aims to teach adults how to read. The Prince William Literacy Volunteers’ client list has doubled in recent years, and Kerr attributes the increase to a feeling of security — Hispanic families feel less threatened by dangerous members of the community, he said.

“After the illegals have gone, it appears that people are more free to become part of the American culture, to seek out the American dreams,” said Kerr. “There are unintended good things that can occur when laws are being followed.”

I can’t imagine that anyone who worked so hard to grasp at the American Dream by following the rules would have any patience or sympathy for those who might share cultural and ethnic characteristics but absolutely depart from their proven and appreciated respect for the law.  Communities of newly-minted Americans and those aspiring to join those ranks benefit more than any other group from reducing illegal immigration.

Now if only Prince William County Police Chief Charlie Deane could understand this.  I’ve been told that the Criminal Alien Unit which he was directed to form by the Board of Supervisors in 2007 pursued its mission for just about one month before being tasked to other duties and is now about to be disbanded.  Just as legal immigrants begin to recognize the value of seeing the law enforced and the positive results that generates in their lives, Chief Deane is again ready to throw them to the wolves out of a misguided effort to adhere to political correctness.

You’d think law enforcement leaders might actually be interested in law enforcement.  Certainly immigrant communities comprised of legal immigrants are, as they fled countries where the rule of law is a sad joke, and aren’t very much interested in replicating the failed policies of their former countries in their new one.  The path to the American Dream doesn’t run through the law of the jungle.

And that i8s the difference between being legal and illegal. Those that are illegal will continually have to break the law in America as it is against the law to come here without our government approving. It is also against the law to work here if you are illegal. Driving a car? Illegal. I could go on and on.

I just wish more legal immigrants would stand up and speak.

Charlie Deane is a joke of the first order. I hope that his retirement comes sooner than later.

You say that this is a reference to a study, but you only mention a blog. Where is the study? Who did it? Or was it just talking to one volunteer at a literacy agency? THAT IS NOT RESEARCH GREG.

“This murder incident is just one of many that have occurred on the border involving racist and trigger happy US Border Patrol agents, especially after the passage of the anti-Mexican SB1070 in Arizona. Though there are some professional and sane border patrol agents, many are White supremacist gringos that hate Mexicans. It is not going to be safe for these agents after this incident. They are going to have to watch their backs more carefully. In the future, they may have to deal with “snipers with real bullets” instead of mere rock throwers. Irresponsible acts like these by rogue agents places the lives of the others in danger but worst of all could spark hostilities between Mexico and the US or a civil war between Mexican-Americans and Whites. “

What is this exodus of illegals that you talk about here? There are more illegals in PWC and the two cities now than there ever were. With reports of them leaving Az. in droves then you KNOW they are heading to Va. as we are a PRIME work location that is known world-wide to be accommodating to them. Every other illegal in Az. when asked where they are going are saying New York or Va. Lots more otw folks and the problem is about to get much worse. Enjoy!

Park’d has an excellent point. I have seen posited here and on other blogs that the number of illegals in PWC seems once again to be on the increase. And I think Park’d may also be spot on with regard to illegals leaving Arizona and heading for places where the atmosphere may be more welcoming. I don’t have the stats to prove it, but I do sense the same sort of thing happening in Loudoun of late. The US Census has already begun to release some demographic data. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can get some solid headcounts on this subject — or should I say “estimates” after watching an illegal near me scam the Hell out of a census worker trying to pin the family down.

You are right Greg. The resolution and the focus on removing
illegal immigrant felons from our communities helps everyone,
especially law abiding legal immigrants. The laws have helped calm
the waters to a degree and we have an opportunity to address
the immigration issue in a more calm rational way. The key
problem is the Federal government, including the Federal courts,
claim over riding authority — but they still refuse to address
the issue even as they limit the actions of state and local
jurisdictions. In a way, it reminds me of the Gulf oil mess.

If some guy said it and it was based on anecdotal evidence, then it must be true.

Now, here is a guy who knows how to remove illegals. Of course, Arizona also has a great Governor and great enabling legislation!

    Pat Buchanan

    Whose country is this?

With the support of 70 percent of its citizens, Arizona has ordered sheriffs and police to secure the border and remove illegal aliens, half a million of whom now reside there.
Arizona acted because the U.S. government has abdicated its constitutional duty to protect the states from invasion and refuses to enforce America’s immigration laws.
“We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” said Gov. Jan Brewer. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created an unacceptable situation.”
We have a crisis in Arizona because we have a failed state in Washington.
What is the response of Barack Obama, who took an oath to see to it that federal laws are faithfully executed?
He is siding with the lawbreakers. He is pandering to the ethnic lobbies. He is not berating a Mexican regime that aids and abets this invasion of the country of which he is commander in chief. Instead, he attacks the government of Arizona for trying to fill a gaping hole in law enforcement left by his own dereliction of duty.
He has denounced Arizona as “misguided.” He has called on the Justice Department to ensure that Arizona’s sheriffs and police do not violate anyone’s civil rights. But he has said nothing about the rights of the people of Arizona who must deal with the costs of having hundreds of thousands of lawbreakers in their midst.
    How’s that for Andrew-Jackson-style leadership?
Obama has done everything but his duty to enforce the law.
Undeniably, making it a state as well as a federal crime to be in this country illegally, and requiring police to check the immigration status of anyone they have a “reasonable suspicion” is here illegally, is tough and burdensome. But what choice did Arizona have?
The state has a fiscal crisis caused in part by the burden of providing schooling and social welfare for illegals and their families, who consume far more in services than they pay in taxes and who continue to pour in. Even John McCain is now calling for 3,000 troops on the border.
Police officers and a prominent rancher have been murdered. There have been kidnappings believed to be tied to the Mexican drug cartels. There are nightly high-speed chases through the barrios where innocent people are constantly at risk.
If Arizona does not get control of the border and stop the invasion, U.S. citizens will stop coming to Arizona and will begin to depart, as they are already fleeing California.
What we are talking about here is the balkanization and breakup of a nation into ethnic enclaves. A country that cannot control its borders isn’t really a country anymore, Ronald Reagan reminded us.
The tasks that Arizonans are themselves undertaking are ones that belong by right, the Constitution and federal law to the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Homeland Security.
Arizona has been compelled to assume the feds’ role because the feds won’t do their job. And for that dereliction of duty the buck stops on the desk of the president of the United States.
Why is Obama paralyzed? Why does he not enforce the law, even if he dislikes it, by punishing the businessmen who hire illegals and by sending the 12 million to 20 million illegals back home? President Eisenhower did it. Why won’t he?
Because he is politically correct. Because he owes a big debt to the Hispanic lobby that helped deliver two-thirds of that vote in 2008. Though most citizens of Hispanic descent in Arizona want the border protected and the laws enforced, the Hispanic lobby demands that the law be changed.

Fair enough. But the nation rose up as one to reject the “path-to-citizenship” – i.e., amnesty – that the 2007 plan of George W. Bush, McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama envisioned.
Al Sharpton threatens to go to Phoenix and march in the streets against the new Arizona law. Let him go.
Let us see how many African-Americans, who are today frozen out of the 8 million jobs held by illegal aliens that might otherwise go to them or their children, will march to defend an invasion for which they are themselves paying the heaviest price.
Last year, while Americans were losing a net of 5 million jobs, the U.S. government – Bush and Obama both – issued 1,131,000 green cards to legal immigrants to come and take the jobs that did open up, a flood of immigrants equaled in only four other years in our history.
What are we doing to our own people?
    Whose country is this, anyway?
America today has an establishment that, because it does not like the immigration laws, countenances and condones wholesale violation of those laws.
Nevertheless, under those laws, the U.S. government is obligated to deport illegal aliens and punish businesses that knowingly hire them.
This is not an option. It is an obligation.
Can anyone say Barack Obama is meeting that obligation?

Of course the way the Catholic Church coddles the illegals and panders to the Islamic crush and our guardians in Washington tighten the progressive noose; the next play may be sooner than we think.

And by the time the rest of the country finally “gets it” we will be, once again, the cantankerous underdog fighting the good fight while the rest watch from under the oppressive thumb of “world governance”.
