Well, at least I have to honor the guy’s honesty. This is from an email I got Saturday from a friend who had a chance to catch up with Congressman Jim Moran over the weekend:
I ran into Rep. Moran at the Del Ray Music Festival today. I was sweaty and miserable from the oppressive heat, and he came up to shake my hand and I told him I’d heard parts of his speech to a crowd of illegal aliens in Culmore, promising them amnesty. I told him his job was to represent the citizens of Virginia first, and not illegal aliens. I told him he needed to stop worrying about them being treated like second class citizens, because they are not citizens AT ALL and cannot demand citizens’ rights. He turned to his aide (apparently he’d brought some staff to the festival) and said, “This is one of the people we’ve been hearing from about the amnesty lately.”
You notice Moran didn’t use the euphemism “Comprehensive Immigration Reform?” No, he regards the current proposals floating around Congress on this subject “the amnesty.” That’s what it is, folks and the Democrats know it. This is all about amnesty for lawbreakers, as if we haven’t any experience with that approach before.
We tried amnesty in 1986 with two million illegal aliens, saw a tremendous amount of fraud and abuse with that program, then let Congress pass another six amnesties for folks left out of the first one, and now we’ve got something like twelve to twenty million illegal aliens unlawfully residing in the United States. Not what you’d call a patricularly effective public policy test, by any means. Yet does Jim Moran have any interest in finally enforcing our laws? Apparently not — he’s busy defending “the amnesty” he wants to ram through.
We should keep him and his buddy Gerry Connolly busy trying to defend such atrocity, as the constituent feedback apparently is having some effect. Your calls are working. Keep them up.
