Here in Maryland, I think/suspect they do similar things like give government contracts to the “right people”/friends who then donate funds to the appropriate and proper political campaigns - and in Maryland these are mostly democrats.

Cynic, the two slimebags pols in question are not stupid enough to take money directly from the islamic crowd. The funds are diverted through third party donations. The dems have been doing this for many years and it is precisely how president Erkel got “elected”.

Not a Virginia voter, but if I were a Virginia voter, I would not vote for those two House Members no matter how much they paid me.

These candidates have to report how much they received in donations, don’t they? Once they do report on their donations, we shall know just how much they received in donations from their supporters.

So should our standard for public office be that no politician in a photo with a Muslim or Muslims should be elected because those in the know realize that this is a coded endorsement of Sharia law (and how do we know that, by the way?)?

It shouldn’t. Islam is as much a political system as it is a religion. In Christendom, the distinction between the two authorities are said to be based upon records in the New Testament of Jesus, asking his followers to render unto Caesar what was his and unto God what was His. Therefore throughout Christian history until the present times, there have always been two authorities: ‘God and Caesar’, or ‘the church and state.’ Each had its own laws and jurisdictions, each its own structure and hierarchy. In the pre-westernized Islamic world there were never two powers, and the question of separation never arose. The distinction so deeply rooted in Christendom between church and state has never existed in Islam.

Yep - still waiting for someone to show us the Connolly statement on “loving Sha’aria”. It was mentioned in the post, but I can’t find where he said that. It would be extraordinary news, as I don’t think any aspiring or present politician at the federal level has previously expressed a desire to see Sharia law supplant our current legal system, or, to hew more literally to the post, express a strong affection for it. Maybe the guy from Minnesota who took his oath on the Koran. But even that would mildly surprise me.
